Macquarie banker Mal Cameron has sold his 1920s Kew home, though falling slightly short of its $6 million-plus expectations.
Cameron, executive director at the Macquarie Group, and his wife Carolynn recently accepted $5.98 million from buyers Guozhen Xiong and Ning Zhu.
The couple had extensively renovated the<a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-kew-116315331" target="_blank"> 10 Marshall Avenue property</a> since buying it for $2.88 million in 2006.
It sits on an impressive 1865 square metres, although the court was right up against the six-bedroom home that comes with an indoor swimming pool and spa.

The Cameron's have downsized to newly built $3.6 million Balwyn home on 594 square metres. The 70 square new home had come onto the market earlier this year with $4.2 million hopes.

It's a bit of like son, like father.
Michael Cannon-Brookes has bought on Palm Beach's Snapperman Beach, just two doors away from his son, Mike Cannon-Brookes, the co-founder and CEO of Atlassian Software Systems who last year <a href="/news/mike-cannon-brookes-the-co-founder-of-atlassian-spends-8-7-million-in-soft-palm-beach-trophy-home-market">spent $8.7 million to buy on Pittwater at Palm Beach</a>.
The Australian Citibank founder Michael Cannon-Brookes and his wife Helen, the grandparents of seven, have paid $4.05 million for the top-floor apartment of The Boatshed, buying from Joan Johns, widow of the late property developer and yachtsman Warren Johns.

The Johns paid $4.25 million for the upstairs unit in 2007, then spent another $5.25 million a month later for the ground floor at the Snapperman Beach site which had served for about five decades as a marine engineering business. 
The Boatshed was initially <a href="https://svc048.wic019v.server-web.com/project001.asp" target="_blank">the David family's award winning Palm Beach residential triplex</a>. 
Both Cannon-Brookes' homes are on Snapperman Beach, and both Wally Barda designed. Roderic David oversaw the development of the Iluka Road property with curved roof lines that hint at the bow of a ship. 
The units, which won the villa development of the year gong at the Housing Industry Association's national awards, had ambitious prices when first listed in 2005, with the ground-floor unit having $8 million-plus expectations and the top-floor unit came with $7 million expectations. 
Joan Johns has also recently sold the ground floor apartment for $4.6 million to the McDowell family.

Michael Cannon-Brookes retired from IBM in 2012 after 15 years with the company, including eight years in Shanghai.    
Before IBM he was the managing director of law firm, Freehills, based in Sydney.  
Prior to that he spent 25 years as a banker, the majority of which between 1969 and 1991 was with Citibank, where he established the bank in Australia.
He was appointed to the Board of Advance Australia in 2013.

The pantry is apparently super-sizing. And the trend has emerged not just because there was plenty of space in The Block Glasshouse project in Prahran.
Last weekend <a href="https://online.wsj.com/articles/the-rise-of-the-super-pantry-1410449896" target="_blank">The Wall Street Journal noted</a> the trend noting the pantry in the US was becoming prettier part of the home. As kitchens islands have become the entertainment hub of the home, home owners are moving the clutter and clatter of kitchen activities behind the scenes where they are less visible to guests.
"No longer just for storing potato chips and soup cans, the traditional kitchen closet is becoming bigger, more luxe and more multifunctional.
"Architects, contractors and real-estate agents say upscale homeowners are asking for walk-in rooms that serve as workspaces for everything from food prep to gift wrapping to bill-paying."
A report by the National Association of Home Builders last year showed 85% of respondents put a walk-in kitchen pantry on their most wanted list.
The WSJ article said the latest iteration of the pantry was really just a riff off pantries of yore.
 In the U.S., a separate room used for storing butter in the 17th and 18th centuries was called a "buttr'y," says Catherine Seiberling Pond, author of The Pantry—Its History and Modern Uses.
 The mid- to late-1800s saw the arrival of the "butler's pantry"—a room off the kitchen for storing glassware, dishes and cutlery, where food was plated. 
In the 1930s, breakfast nooks began to replace separate pantries, and food storage moved to cabinets. 
Pantries became all but obsolete by the 1950s, says Pond. It wasn't until the 1990s, when kitchens became more open, that walk-in pantries returned.
There were two winners of kitchen week.
Michael and Carlene's kitchen was reminiscent of a high-end Manhattan brasserie. The butler’s pantry had storage and a preparation area. The judges praised the pantry (pictured above) as the “icing on the cake”.
Shannon and Simon's kitchen was described as modern, edgy with a sophisticated palette. It came with chef's kitchen. Their pantry was the perfect place for a microwave, said judge Darren.
Dee and Daz’s butler’s pretty pantry was the runner up.
There was criticism from the Block judge, Shayna of Maxine and Karstan’s butler’s pantry. 
Shayna thought there was way too much storage (below) in the contestant butler’s pantry, describing it as “like a clinical storage box”.

A Palm Beach beachfront retreat recently sold off market for $5.6 million to the Gazal family.
Title Tattle notes it last sold four year ago at $5.75 million, so premium prices are still patchy despite all the suggestions that the prestige market was making a comeback.
Imagine what it might have fetched before the global financial crisis. Indeed the then owners actually tried for $8 million plus back then in early 2008, though failed.
Once a modest cottage, the house was renovated and extended 25 years ago with plans designed by architectural firm Allen Jack + Cottier. It has title to the high-water mark.

The 1940s-era house set on a double 1,400-square-metre block at 1129 Barrenjoey Road last traded when bought from Latina pasta co-founder Fraser Hopkins for $11,975,000 in 2009.
Macquarie banker Matthew Banks and his wife Melissa are the latest Palm Beach buyers after buying from Australia's former consul-general in New York, Phillip Scanlan and his wife Julie for $5 million.
The Geoff Watson-designed property on Florida Road was sold through David Edwards. 
The Florida Road property was bought for $610,000 in 1993.

Prestige Palm Beach prices patchy, but still being tested

A record price was paid last weekend in Artarmon when 9 Pyrl Road sold for $2.95 million under the hammer to a Cammeray family.
There were 15 registered bidders at the weekend offering on Pyrl Road, with a $2.3 million opening bid when it was auction<a href="https://www.domain.com.au/property/for-sale/house/nsw/artarmon/?adid=2011378577" target="_blank"> through J</a><a href="https://www.domain.com.au/property/for-sale/house/nsw/artarmon/?adid=2011378577" target="_blank">ohn McManus from LJ Hooker Artarmon/Willoughby</a>.
It sits on a 696 square metre block.
The prior record was 12 Harden Road (pictured below), <a href="/expert-insights/buying/stayput-aunts-artarmon-federation-fetches-record-price-after-99-year-ownership">which sold in July this year for $2.82 million</a>.
The four-bedroom house at 12 Harden Road was offered for the first time in 99 years selling through agent Danny Grant, of Ray White Lower North Shore.

Artarmon, Sydney house sells for record $2.95 million under the hammer

The Brisbane pub baron Andrew Griffiths has sold his Ascot residence for $10.2 million through estate agent Gail Havig.
It is the highest residential property sale in Brisbane in seven years.
Windermere sits on 4,700 square metres on Sutherland Avenue.
It last traded at $3.5 million in 2001 when bought by Griffiths and his wife, Helen.
It has been sold to Chris Miers and his wife, Linda.  
This Ascot street gets its name from James Sutherland, a pastoralist who in 1855 acquired a substantial land holding in the area.
Built around the mid-1880s, the past residents read like a Who's Who of Brisbane's well-to-do residing behind its ornate gates, <a href="https://www.yourbrisbanepastandpresent.com/2013/02/windermere-ascot" target="_blank">according to the yourbrisbane website</a>.

Pub baron Andrew Griffiths sells Windermere, his Ascot, Brisbane trophy mansion for $10.2 million

The high-profile real estate agent John McGrath is considering a public float of his 61 office estate agency network.
Discussions had taken place with JPMorgan on an initial public offering of the McGrath Estate Agents business, according to The Australian, but were at a very early stage.
Its chief operating officer Geoff Lucas confirmed the group was intent on considering all options.
"Listing is just one of several options that the McGrath Board is exploring and yet to determine as the company continues its expansion," he said.
Earlier scoping did not eventuate in any float after having been mooted at least twice over the past two decades or so. Property Observer has also heard suggestions that McGrath had also been considering selling equity after an approach from an international property agency.
John McGrath began his career at John O'Brien's Goodhope Realty agency in Paddington in the mid-1980s, which became McGrath Goodhope in 1988.
Some colleagues remain within the group whose website reported annual residential sales turnover of $10.1 billion. The recent annual tally was from 10,574 sales with some 3,334 properties at $1 million or more.
Its most recent official annual report, for the 2012-13 financial year indicated a doubling in profit after providing for income tax to $4,524,301, up from 2011-12 which had a $2,248,459 profit. 
Dividends totaling $1,710,000 were declared and paid during the 2012-13 year.
During the 2012-13 year the group expanded its office network to 53 including 45 franchise offices with over $7 billion in residential sales volumes from 7,870 transactions.  
The group is chaired by Wendy McCarthy, the executive director of McCarthy Management Pty Limited and founder of McCarthy Mentoring.
The other independent director is Cass O'Connor, a corporate advisor, private equity investor and equities research analyst currently running her own advisory and investment firm. She has previously been a senior advisor with Carnegie, Wylie &amp; Company (now Lazard Australia); dxecutive director with Goldman Sachs Australia LLC; director of Turnbull &amp; Partners Limited and equities research analyst with Bain &amp; Company (now Deutsche Bank).
Over recent years the group has bought rival businesses and rent rolls.
In May 2012, McGrath acquired the sales and rent roll and business of Sarah Lorden Real Estate Pty Limited. 
In the same month the company acquired the rent roll business of IC Property Group International Pty Limited, while in December of the same year, McGrath acquired the rent roll businesses of Sellit Investments Pty Ltd and Julia Lerner.
McGrath Limited has bank facilities totalling $7,687,108 with five fully drawn advance facilities - starting with a $2,343,596 facility repayable by March 2017.
Before any float McGrath will need to conclude a serious payroll dispute with the New South Wales Office of State Revenue (OSR) which issued payroll tax assessment notices to McGrath Sales Proprietary Limited in August last year.
The assessments relate to commission income received by conjunction agents during the period 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2012.
McGrath has lodged an objection to the assessments with the OSR in September 2013.
The total amount being disputed is $6,072,810 inclusive of payroll tax, interest and penalty tax.
The directors believe that McGrath Sales Proprietary Limited has no payroll tax obligations, and intends to further challenge the assessments and any future assessments if the objection is dismissed.
The company annual report noted the OSR had not issued a payroll tax assessment notice for the period 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013 to McGrath Sales Proprietory Limited.

Estate agent John McGrath considers ASX float

The ANZ senior property analyst David Cannington told this week's Bloomberg seminar that recent Sydney house price growth was a catch-up after several flat years, but was set to slow down.
"In 2015 the easy money will come to an end," David Cannington suggested.
"A lot of the market has become complacent and is expecting that it is here to stay.
"However, rates are not going to stay where they are for much longer and as that changes, then that will contain some of the price growth," he said.
Foreign investment - and demand - for high-density housing in Australian cities was important to jobs and development, he added, and an element in property price inflation.

Mezzo Sydney is the latest new apartment project to be unveiled in Sydney's Glebe and one of the first ahead of the official evolution of the nearby Bays precinct.
Close to the edge of Wentworth Park, the 213-apartment Mezzo Sydney, is set over four 10-level towers with rooftop gardens by landscape architects 360º.
Some 1,300 registrations of interest have been made ahead of this weekend VIP launch<a href="https://mezzosydney.com.au" target="_blank"> by the Savills sales team</a>.
The design of the 21,000 square metre city fringe development site was undertaken by <a href="https://www.chrofi.com/project/bay-street-glebe" target="_blank">CHROFI</a> and KANNFINCH after a City of Sydney design excellence competition.
There will be full-height glazing, tiled floors and stone benchtops inside the apartments, many of which have city views. The architects sought for the apartment interiors to be restrained but warm in character with an aesthetic quality reminiscent of a bygone industrial past.

Downstairs it will have 4,400 square metres of commercial and retail space, says David Cullen, managing director at developer Oakstand Property Group, which is working with the Denwol Group.

The full city block holding with frontages to Bay, Cowper and Wentworth Streets and Wentworth Park Road has allowed a podium up to level three.
MEZZO Sydney will have studios (41-43 square metres) from $585,000; one-bedrooms (43-63 square metres) from $650,000; two-bedrooms (64-96 square metres) from $885,000; and three-bedrooms (103-142 square metres) from $1.7 million to $2.5 million.

Theace, the 1904 Federation trophy mansion in Gordon listed

A trio of Queensland property groups have unveiled plans for a $300 million mixed-use redevelopment of the former Noosa Bowls Club site, a proposal that would deliver more than 200 new homes in one of the Sunshine Coast's most supply-constrained markets.

Kilter Property, Frank Developments and Calile Malouf Investments are behind the plans for the 1.8-hectare site at <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/99-noosa-drive-noosa-heads-qld-4567">99 Noosa Drive</a>, which would transform the long-vacant site into a new residential precinct featuring 208 apartments, retail, hospitality and public space.

The proposal comes as Noosa continues to grapple with housing affordability and a shortage of permanent accommodation, particularly for key workers. The site's location in Noosa Junction, close to shops, public transport and employment, aligns with the direction of Noosa Council's Housing Strategy, which encourages higher-density housing within established activity centres rather than continued urban expansion.

The draft plans include 48 affordable-by-design apartments and 48 rooming accommodation units aimed at key workers. Around 2,000 sqm of ground-floor retail and food and beverage space would activate the street frontage, alongside a new public town square and landscaped open space.

Calile Malouf Investments, best known for its role in Brisbane's James Street precinct and The Calile Hotel, will bring its place-making experience to the project. The company recently commenced construction on The Calile Noosa hotel and says the residential development will complement its growing investment in the region.

CMI Director Cal Malouf said the aim was to create a walkable precinct combining housing, retail and hospitality while remaining true to Noosa's character.

"We see a similar opportunity in Noosa to deliver a vibrant, walkable destination that combines exceptional housing, hospitality and retail in one integrated project," Malouf said.

Brisbane-based Cavill Architects has been appointed to design the project.

Noosa Bowls Club to be redeveloped into mixed-use apartment precinct

One of Brisbane's last major riverfront redevelopment opportunities has taken a significant step forward, with Lendlease selected as the Queensland Government's preferred development partner for the former Visy site in South Brisbane.

The seven-hectare industrial site, positioned between South Bank and West End and 1.3 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD, will be transformed into a mixed-use precinct expected to deliver more than 4,000 new homes alongside extensive public open space and riverfront parkland.

The project is one of the largest urban renewal opportunities currently planned in Brisbane and is expected to play a key role in accommodating the city's growing population ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Plans for the precinct include a network of riverfront promenades and boardwalks, new public plazas, parkland, amphitheatre-style gathering spaces and shared pedestrian and cycling links designed to reconnect the long-isolated site with the Brisbane River.

The Queensland Government is targeting delivery of the first homes and key public spaces before the 2032 Games, allowing the precinct to begin contributing new housing and public amenity well before the broader masterplan is complete.

The redevelopment is also expected to support more than 3,000 jobs across planning, construction and ongoing operations.

For Lendlease, the appointment adds another major urban regeneration project to its Queensland portfolio. The developer has operated in the state for more than 70 years and has delivered a number of large-scale mixed-use precincts in partnership with government.

Lendlease Development CEO Claire Johnston said the project represented one of Brisbane's most significant redevelopment opportunities.

"The transformation of the former Visy site represents a rare opportunity to reimagine one of Brisbane's most significant riverfront locations, deliver thousands of much-needed homes, and create long-term legacy," Johnston said.

"In partnership with the Queensland Government, we have the opportunity to create a new riverside destination that will help shape Brisbane's growth and how people experience the city for decades to come.

"This is exactly the type of large-scale, city-shaping development that will provide lasting benefits for Queensland, bringing together housing, jobs and world-class public spaces."

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said the riverfront transformation would deliver a thriving new community precinct.

“The Crisafulli Government is delivering this golden opportunity to unlock a riverfront jewel for all Queenslanders,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.

“This is a once-in-a-generation moment to reshape a significant slice of Brisbane and deliver lasting benefits – thousands of new homes, and public spaces for all Queenslanders to enjoy well beyond the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games – unlike Labor’s plan which would have delivered zero benefits and zero new homes.

“Queensland is well and truly open for business and through partnership with the private sector, we are accelerating delivery while ensuring strong housing, community and economic outcomes."

Early works on the precinct are expected to commence in April 2027.

Lendlease selected to deliver transformative South Brisbane riverfront precinct

Eddy Haddad's <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/level-33">Level 33</a> is levelling up its approved Wollongong development, as the coastal city south of Sydney continues to prove popular in the high-density development space.

Level 33, a longtime developer in the Wollongong area, has gone through the NSW Government's Housing Delivery Authority to upsize its approved two-tower development on the corner of Crown Street and Gladstone Avenue, just 100 metres from Wollongong Station.

The developer currently has approval for 252 apartments across two buildings rising to 19 storeys. It is now seeking approval for 33 and 38-storey towers that would deliver 467 apartments, including 67 affordable homes.

Designed by <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/architects/bka-architecture">BKA Architecture</a>, the development would comprise apartments above a three-level podium with around 1,100 sqm of retail space, along with basement parking for 448 vehicles.

According to the Urban Design Report by BKA, the proposal has the capacity to "reinforce the precinct's identity by strengthening links between health, education, and transport services, while also contributing to Wollongong's ongoing evolution as a key regional centre."

Wollongong is somewhat in vogue. Between Level 33 and Urban Property Group, the two developers have several thousand apartments planned across the city.

Level 33 is currently delivering Easterly Wollongong, one of its most boutique projects to date with just 21 high-end apartments, as well as Atchison &amp; Kenny, a 329-apartment development due for completion later this year.

The developer plans to redevelop the 13,088 sqm WIN Grand megasite into <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/crown-square-216-238-keira-street-wollongong-nsw-2500">Crown Square</a>, a new $500 million precinct with nearly 600 apartments. It also has more than 900 apartments planned for the former Bunnings Warehouse site at the intersection of Gipps and Flinders streets.

Urban Property Group is also playing a major role in the city's transformation. Its five-tower Keira Place precinct will deliver more than 800 homes, and it has recently lodged plans for a further 300 apartments near Wollongong Station.

First look: Level 33 upsizes Wollongong apartment towers

Just a week after filing plans for the final stage of its major Keira Place masterplan, <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/urban-property-group">Urban Property Group</a> has unveiled another significant housing proposal in Wollongong, this time targeting a prominent site opposite North Wollongong Station.

The developer has lodged a State Significant Development Application for a 38-storey mixed-use tower at <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/4-4a-flinders-street-north-wollongong-nsw-2500">4-4A Flinders Street</a>, around one kilometre north of the <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/keira-place-wollongong-120-122-smith-street-wollongong-nsw-2500">Keira Place precinct</a> currently taking shape on the edge of the CBD.

Designed by Studio.SC, the proposal comprises a 38-storey mixed-use development containing 303 apartments, including 45 affordable housing units, alongside 174 co-living residences. The scheme also includes ground-floor retail space, extensive landscaping and public domain improvements.

Studio.SC noted in the proposal it "outlines a vision for a landmark transit-oriented mixed-use development centred around North Wollongong Station, designed to support the city’s future growth while responding to the NSW Government’s housing and planning reforms."

The architecture firm said the proposal responds to the opportunities and constraints shaping future growth within the 400-metre catchment of the station and represents "a coordinated and future-focused approach to urban intensification, contributing to the long-term evolution of North Wollongong as a connected, walkable and high-density station precinct."

The site occupies a strategic corner bounded by Flinders Street, Station Street, Stafford Street and the Princes Highway, directly opposite North Wollongong Station.

The proposal follows Urban Property Group's recent submission for the second and final stage of Keira Place, which would deliver a further three buildings comprising 657 homes opposite Beaton Park. It builds on the first stage, which features 150 apartments across two towers and recently commenced construction.

Urban Property Group CEO Patrick Elias said breaking ground on the first stage marked a significant milestone for Wollongong and reflected the developer's long-term commitment to regional cities.

"Today's groundbreaking is about turning approvals into homes and moving quickly to deliver much-needed housing in Wollongong's city centre," Elias said.

"Keira Place will provide a diverse mix of homes close to jobs, transport and services, while setting a high benchmark for quality, durability and consumer protection."

First look: Urban Property Group plans next major Wollongong tower

<a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/arada">Arada Australia</a> has wasted little time expanding its ambitions in Campsie, lodging plans for a second major project in the rapidly transforming town centre just months after unveiling its three-tower One Campsie proposal on Beamish Street.

The UAE-backed developer has now taken aim at one of the suburb’s most strategically positioned sites, filing a State Significant Development Application for a <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/10-north-parade-campsie-nsw-2194">33-storey mixed-use tower</a> at 10 London Street and 43 North Parade, directly opposite the future Campsie Metro Station. The proposal is currently on public exhibition and represents another significant vote of confidence in Campsie's emergence as one of Sydney’s key transit-oriented growth centres.

Designed by <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/architects/woods-bagot">Woods Bagot</a>, the development would deliver 156 apartments above a podium containing retail and commercial space, creating a new residential and commercial gateway to the town centre. The scheme also includes a four-level above-ground parking podium and a dedicated residential amenity floor featuring wellness and recreation facilities. At least 10 per cent of the apartments would be allocated as affordable housing for a period of 10 years.

The proposal occupies a 1,631 sqm site bounded by London Street, North Parade and Dispensary Lane, immediately adjoining the future Metro station precinct and just metres from Beamish Street’s retail and dining strip. According to the Urban Design Report, the project seeks to deliver "a great place that prioritises human-scaled experience and provides spatial improvements to the area."

Woods Bagot describes the tower as a key marker within Campsie's next phase of growth.

"Located directly opposite the new Campsie Metro Station on North Parade, 10 London Street is a thoughtfully composed 33-storey mixed-use tower that contributes to the ongoing transformation of the town centre," the Architectural Design Report states. The report says the project is intended to provide "high-quality homes within a vibrant, connected urban environment, while helping define Campsie's future skyline."

A strong emphasis has been placed on the public realm. The ground floor incorporates over 500 sqm of retail space and active frontages along both London Street and North Parade, while the podium is wrapped by extensive landscaped planting intended to soften the building's scale and strengthen the pedestrian experience. The development would also widen surrounding footpaths and improve connections between the Metro station and the broader town centre.

Above the podium, residents would have access to more than 1,400 sqm of communal amenities, including a pool, gym and landscaped recreation spaces. A distinctive green-wall treatment extending across four podium levels forms a major architectural feature, helping differentiate the project within the emerging high-density precinct.

The tower's design is closely tied to the broader Campsie Town Centre Master Plan and the arrival of Sydney Metro. The Urban Design Report notes the proposal "directly supports the Campsie Town Centre Master Plan by delivering new homes in a location explicitly identified for growth, improved accessibility, and high-quality urban renewal." It adds that the project contributes to the master plan's vision for a strengthened town centre supported by thousands of new homes around the future Metro station.

The application follows Arada Australia's recently lodged One Campsie project at 124–142 Beamish Street and 16–18 Ninth Avenue, where the developer is seeking approval for 346 apartments across three towers rising 24, 32 and 39 storeys. Together, the two proposals would cement Arada Australia as one of the most influential developers shaping Campsie's future urban form.

Arada Australia entered the Australian market in 2024 and has rapidly assembled a significant development pipeline across Sydney. Alongside its Campsie holdings, the developer is soon to launch <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/wattle-green-2-fishburn-crescent-castle-hill-nsw-2154">Wattle Green</a> in Castle Hill, and has expanded its local operations following its acquisition of construction firm Roberts &amp; Co.

Located around 14 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD, the site sits at the centre of one of Sydney's fastest-changing middle-ring precincts. The Metro conversion of Campsie Station, combined with Canterbury-Bankstown Council's master planning framework, is driving significant residential intensification around Beamish Street and North Parade, with thousands of new homes expected over coming decades.
