A long-stalled Campbelltown development site is back in play, with new plans for 139 apartments set to supersede a mixed-use scheme approved almost a decade ago but never built.

The new proposal for 28 Cordeaux Street would deliver 116 market and 23 affordable apartments in a part 14-storey building, bringing a substantial new project into a Campbelltown market where new apartment supply remains limited.

Plans have been filed over the 3,092 sqm corner site at Moore-Oxley Street, around 600 metres from Campbelltown Railway Station and the city-centre retail core.

The site already carries a mixed-use residential approval dating to 2016. Doroch Architects has now been engaged on a larger replacement scheme, which is progressing as a State Significant Development Application following a Housing Delivery Authority determination in August 2025.

The apartment mix comprises 39 one-bedroom, 72 two-bedroom and 28 three-bedroom residences. Two-bedroom apartments make up just over half of the project, while three-bedroom homes account for 20 per cent.

Of the 139 apartments, 23 will be delivered as affordable housing under the in-fill affordable housing provisions of the Housing SEPP. The affordable component represents 15 per cent of the residential gross floor area and will be managed by a registered Community Housing Provider.

Doroch has sought to break the scale of the building into two distinct elements, with a masonry podium of around four storeys establishing the street edge before the residential tower steps back above.

The corner position has shaped that approach. Cordeaux Street faces toward the commercial and civic centre, while Moore-Oxley Street leads into the lower-scale residential neighbourhood to the south, and the design verification report describes the site as "bridging the commercial core to the north and established residential areas to the south."

The podium will be expressed predominantly in face brick, while the upper levels shift to brushed and grooved concrete cladding with darker metal detailing. Recessed sections, deep balcony edges and landscaping break down the upper form, with an approximately 11.8-metre setback to the northern boundary addressing the adjoining St Peters Anglican School.

Queensland builder-developer MAYD has revealed the first look at its major North Kirra beachfront development, lodging amended plans that reduce the number of apartments and increase the proportion of larger residences.

The project is planned across a substantial 4,742 sqm amalgamated site spanning seven lots at <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/2-6-pacific-parade-bilinga-qld-4225">2-6 Pacific Parade</a> and 27-33 Golden Four Drive in Bilin​ga, directly opposite Nor​th Kirra Beach.

<a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/mayd-group">MAYD</a> secured the site for $32.5 million in 2025, in what was one of the Gold Coast's largest property transactions of the year.

The development will be delivered across two stages, with the first stage carrying an estimated gross realisation value of around $360 million.

The latest amendments seek to reduce the overall apartment count and shift the project further toward the owner-occupier market, with larger residences designed for buyers wanting considerably more space than traditionally offered in a beachfront apartment.

The residential mix will include townhomes, oversized two-bedroom apartments, substantial three-bedroom residences and four-bedroom homes.

MAYD has appointed Cera Stribley to lead the architecture and interiors, with the Melbourne-based design practice drawing on the beachfront setting through a series of ocean-facing terraces and heavily landscaped balconies.

Strong horizontal forms and curved balconies will define the exterior, with subtropical landscaping integrated throughout the building to soften the built form and increase the connection between the residences and the beachfront.

The project will also include an extensive collection of resident wellness and lifestyle facilities, continuing the broader shift across the Gold Coast's luxury apartment market toward larger homes supported by resort-style amenity.

MAYD Founder Todd Mould said North Kirra was increasingly appealing to buyers attracted to the more established, lower-density character of the southern Gold Coast.

"North Kirra presents one of the most compelling luxury residential opportunities currently emerging in Australia, combining absolute beachfront with the character and authenticity that buyers are increasingly seeking, and the same sense of tight-knit community that defined Burleigh and Currumbin perhaps 10 or 15 years ago," Mould said.

"With Gold Coast Airport on its doorstep, it also offers a level of accessibility that broadens its appeal across almost every market demographic."

The project comes as the southern Gold Coast continues to attract an increasing share of high-end apartment development and buyer activity.

Kirra in particular has emerged as one of the region's more tightly held beachfront markets, with its relatively low-density character, established surf and hospitality scene and proximity to Gold Coast Airport differentiating it from the higher-density markets further north.

Mould said those characteristics had informed the approach MAYD and Cera Stribley had taken to the project.

"We've worked closely with Cera Stribley to create a vision that is deeply connected to its surroundings," he said.

"Inspired by the coastline itself, the architecture has been shaped around space, privacy and resort-style living, creating a collection of homes that reflects the next generation of luxury on the southern Gold Coast."

MOTIV Managing Director Carly Cottam, who has been appointed to market the project, said buyer attention had continued to move south along the Gold Coast.

"Purchasers who may once have defaulted to Broadbeach, Main Beach or Surfers Paradise are increasingly recognising the value of a genuine beachfront location that offers lower density, strong amenity and a more established sense of community," Cottam said.

"Kirra has a powerful combination of growing demand and genuine scarcity. Beachfront supply is inherently constrained, the area remains relatively low density, and buyers are increasingly placing a premium on locations that feel established, uncrowded and authentic rather than heavily developed."

Cottam said the proximity to Gold Coast Airport was also proving increasingly important for interstate and second-home buyers.

"Being minutes from Gold Coast Airport makes it particularly compelling for interstate buyers, frequent travellers and second-home purchasers who can access an authentic coastal lifestyle almost immediately after stepping off a flight."

The acquisition takes MAYD's active development portfolio to more than $500 million, with the North Kirra project representing one of its largest undertakings to date.

Castle Hill, the longtime hub of the Hills District, has been one of the major beneficiaries of Sydney's Metro expansion, with improved connectivity helping drive continued population growth, development and buyer demand across the Hills District.

But despite that growth, the suburb has seen relatively few major new apartment projects brought to market over the past 18 months.

Nova Rêve also represents a significant step up from the family's first apartment development, Grand Rêve, which was delivered nearby on Garthowen Crescent.

Nova Rêve takes that approach to a precinct scale, combining the residential component with hospitality, retail and substantial public and resident landscaping.

Reve Group Managing Director Sam Kassis said the project reflected the family's three decades of building in the Hills, which has evolved from trophy homes on quarter-acre blocks to larger-scale apartment development.

"Grand Rêve was our first apartment project here and it showed us what this pocket of Castle Hill could be. Nova Rêve is the refinement of that idea: not just apartments, but a place the whole suburb can use," Kassis said.

A key part of that approach is the hotel, which has been designed to operate as an amenity for the wider Castle Hill community rather than solely hotel guests.

It will include restaurants, cafes, skybars and all-day dining, alongside conference and event facilities catering to business functions, community groups and private events.

At ground level, more than 1,600 sqm of shops and cafes will open onto the surrounding streets and landscaped areas.

Almost an acre of gardens designed by Land and Form Studios will run through the precinct, incorporating pathways, seating, barbecue areas and children's play spaces.

Reve Group's Romio Georges said creating an active ground plane had been central to the planning of Nova Rêve.

"There are gardens with pathways, barbecues, seating and play areas, shops and cafes opening onto the street, and a hotel with restaurants and a skybar that anyone in Castle Hill can walk into," Georges said.

The project's elevated position on one of Sydney's highest ridgelines will also provide apartments with outlooks toward the Sydney skyline, surrounding parkland and the Blue Mountains.

More than 80 per cent of the apartments will occupy corner positions, with Turner responsible for both the architecture and interiors.

From late 2025, eligible first home buyers in New South Wales will have access to a new federal government initiative aimed at addressing affordability: the Help to Buy Scheme.&nbsp;

<h2>What is the Help to Buy Scheme?</h2>

The program introduces a shared equity model intended to reduce the upfront cost of entering the property market, particularly in high-demand urban areas such as Sydney.

The scheme operates under a shared ownership structure in which the federal government takes an equity stake of up to 40 per cent for new homes, or 30 per cent for existing dwellings. This arrangement allows eligible buyers to significantly reduce their loan size and avoid the added cost of Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI).

Under this model, purchasers can enter the property market with as little as a two per cent deposit, well below the traditional 10 to 20 per cent usually required. The government’s contribution is not a loan but a co-ownership stake in the property. As such, there is no interest or rent charged on its portion.

Because the government’s equity combined with the buyer’s deposit typically meets or exceeds the 20 per cent threshold, LMI does not apply. The remaining balance, generally between 60 and 70 per cent of the property’s value, is financed through a standard home loan with a participating lender.

The government's equity in the property remains in place until the buyer chooses to repay it voluntarily or until the property is sold. Buyers can buy back the government’s share over time, in increments of at least five per cent, depending on their financial situation.

There is no fixed repayment timeline, but the amount to be repaid will be based on the property's market value at the time of repayment, not the original purchase price.

<h2>How do you qualify for the&nbsp;Help to Buy Scheme?</h2>

To qualify for the Help to Buy Scheme, applicants must meet the following conditions:

All Victorian property owners will pay a fire levy in the wake of a post-Black Saturday shakeup by the Baillieu government.


From July 2013 all property owners will pay a yearly base fee of $100 for residential property and $200 for commercial, industrial and farming property as well as an as-yet unknown levy based on the capital improved value of the property. 

The redesign of the levy comes after recommendations by the royal commission into the Black Saturday bushfires. The levy, which previously only applied to those with property insurance, will pay for the budgets of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade and the Country Fire Authority.

GST and stamp duty charges on the fire levy will also be dropped. 

“Under this model all Victorian property owners will fairly contribute to the provision of our state’s fire services,” Premier Ted Baillieu says.

“These changes will ensure everyone contributes a fair share to the fire services, not just those who adequately insure their properties.”

But Property Council of Australia Victorian’s Jennifer Cunich says fewer than 15% of fires start in commercial properties.

“It is unfair to place a disproportionate burden on commercial property owners who have invested in buildings and systems that significantly lower fire risk. Our premium properties are absolutely going to be slugged,” she told Fairfax  Media.

She says Victoria, like other states, needs to set a cap on the levy for commercial property and the changes need to recognise the lower risk of fire in commercial properties.

She estimates a $1 billion property would attract a $830,000 levy, making Victoria a less attractive for investors. 

She says the changes to GST and stamp duty are “fantastic”.

The levy will be collected by councils overseen by the State Revenue Office.

State opposition spokesman Tim Holding says because the figures for the variable rate are unreleased, Victorian property owners still have no idea how much they will pay.

“It beggars belief that the government can release the average ... levy for every local government area in Victoria and yet they will not release the variable component percentage on which this levy is based,” he says.

The office market in Melbourne faces strong short term headwinds with the landmark projects in the Docklands precinct coming to market soon while major Melbourne tenants contemplate moving interstate, according to CBRE.
The overall assessment for Australia's national office outlook is flat given the likelihood of weak employment growth and structural changes in tenancy space efficiency.
In Melbourne, there are "risks" of major mining tenants moving to Perth while the Tatts Group have already announced a shift to Brisbane.
Many Docklands projects are coming to market in 2013 and 2014 which will also pull tenants away from the established Melbourne CBD, the report noted.
CBRE says more supply coming onto market at a time of weaker demand is likely to put pressure on rental growth.
Office rents in Melbourne grew 3% over 2012 but in 2013 that figure will drop to 1% in 2013 and 2% in 2013-2017.
CBRE says there will be a net absorption of 13,000 square metres, down from 49,100 square metres in 2012. Pre-GFC levels were 89,600.
The vacancy rate in Melbourne is expected to increase in coming years.
Across Australia CBRE finds major tenants like banks have been losing employees and focussing on using space more efficiently which will lead to a softer market.
“Flexible working and activity based working will limit future demand for space. This, coupled with improvements in technology allowing more employees to work remotely and increases in outsourcing means that achieving historical absorption rates will be more challenging,” writes CBRE head of research Stephen McNabb.
Perth is expected to be the strongest market though Queensland is expected to increase somewhat.
“Activity in the engineering pipeline is expected to keep economic growth strong over the next three years at least which should keep office market conditions tight with vacancy well below long term averages.”
“Little or no new supply will enter the Perth office market in the next two years but there is still underlying demand placing downward pressure on vacancy rates over the short term. This supports the strongest rental growth in Australia.”
The Queensland economy has been gaining momentum but this hasn’t necessarily translated into even job distribution across the market, the report finds. In Brisbane, employment was flat across the financial year whereas job numbers closer to resource activities jumped.
“This suggests a degree of regionalisation of employment in Queensland which contrasts to Perth, where the city is benefitting from strong mining/engineering construction activity in the north west WA.”
“New supply is expected to put some pressure on vacancy rates further out and is expected to hold back rental growth relative to historical averages.”
In Sydney the market is expected to remain balanced and tight in the short term with Barangaroo the main issue. A significant boost in demand is required to backfill CBD space.
“We struggle to find a surprise element that could pull the Sydney market higher.”
In Canberra softer demand from the public sector is expected to reduce demand with a muted forecast.
In Adelaide increasing supply will increase vacancy rates over the short term.

Established Melbourne office market faces short term headwinds from Docklands and interstate departees: CBRE

Mortgagees have listed a grand Mt Eliza home for September 9 auction.
It last sold for $3.92 million in 2008.

Grand Mt Eliza home passed up by Hugh Jackman listed for auction

The dispute between Grocon and the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) in Melbourne is clear evidence that industrial relations law is failing, according to Wilhelm Harnisch, the Master Builders Australia chief executive.
"The bullying tactics displayed by the CFMEU vindicates the building industry's call for the return of the Australian Building and Construction Commission and dedicated industry-specific laws which target unlawful and intimidatory conduct," he says.
"Currently, the Fair Work Building and Construction agency has not been able to intervene because it possesses severely weakened powers.
"The regulator should not be stopped from acting where an employer has already initiated proceedings, a constraint which dogs the current agency," Harnisch says.
The Myer Lonsdale Street construction site dispute is against the backdrop of significant changes in building industry regulations, both in Victoria and nationwide as the Gillard government softened the tougher Howard government laws that building workers had faced since 2005, while the Baillieu government has introduced rules modelled on the Howard regime.
Daniel Grollo, the Grocon chief, is in Sydney today, with suggestions rife the conflict might escalate up the east coast.
In July the MBA noted research that Australia had been better off by $6.3 billion each year given the industrial relations reforms that were in place since October 2005 until June this year.
“Although there are weaker laws in place, they should be enforced,” Mr Harnisch said.

Fair Work dogged by constraints in Grollo construction disputation: MBA

The Tasmanian property market is set to deteriorate in the coming six months, due to continuing job losses contributing to rising unemployment levels, low confidence in the state economy and high numbers of properties on the market, according to the First National Real Estate 2012 Property Market Outlook Mid-Year Update. 
The Update, released this week, is based on a survey of the 400+ member network, and provides an insight on what member agents expect the market to do, drawing on their experience at the grass roots level. 
The state of Tasmania’s economy is dependent upon global and national domestic economies, and prudent spending and strong leadership is required but is currently lacking. 
Tasmania’s economy and the state of the property market are intertwined, and the state needs to progress incentives that will grow the state and increase its revenue, and that shouldn’t be from charging more for stamp duty. 
The key challenges for the Tasmanian property market are increased costs of living, job security and consumer confidence, particularly as it is affected by the current large cuts to the state budget. 
The continued cuts in state spending are fuelling consumer concerns and eroding confidence.
The market needs incentives for first-home buyers, which are further suffering as a result of banks tightening their lending policies, making them save longer for a larger deposits and stamp duty concessions being abolished last year. 
According to the Update, Tasmania’s west coast, north-west coast, areas of Hobart and East Launceston will be the best performing regions in the state, while hotspots will be locations exposed to the mining industry development. 
The Update says the strongest growth will come from the upgrader sector, as buyers capitalise on prime market conditions of improved affordability and low interest rates. 
Property prices should trend downwards, due to the ongoing consumer nervousness and lack of confidence in economic conditions. 
The rental market in Tasmania is expected to remain in its current state, with ongoing steady supply meeting consistent demand. 
Interest rates are expected to reduce further, however it is not expected this will impact too greatly on the state’s property market, as any gains will be offset by rising living costs such as increasing electricity bills. 
The expected hikes in electricity, rates and water/sewerage rates will put financially strapped mortgage holders under further pressure, generating an increasing in mortgage defaults for the state.
What the market needs is for stamp duty to be abolished, which would greatly assist in sustaining the state’s property market over the coming six months. 
According to the Update, the Tasmanian commercial property market is expected to weaken, with decreases in property and rental prices. 
Low consumer, business and market confidence will drive decreases across the board. 
The market will also be affected by poor retail figures and increasing outgoings, putting businesses under financial pressure and forcing them to close down or relocate to more affordable precincts. 
However, the rural property market in Tasmania is expected to hold up for the remainder of the year, with the lifestyle segment representing the greatest growth sector on Tasmania’s north coast.

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Liveability Survey assesses the locations around the world that provide the best or the worst living conditions.
The survey doesn’t include the absolute worst of the worst, just cities or business centres that people might feasibly want to live in or visit. So it does not include cities like Kabul in Afghanistan or Baghdad in Iraq, both in the grip of conflict.
Conflict is generally found to be the primary reason for the position of the bottom ranked cities.
“Threat of armed conflict will not just cause disruption in its own right, it will also damage infrastructure, overburden hospitals, and undermine the availability of goods, services and  recreational activities,” the report says.
The city of Algiers, the capital of Algeria, is number five. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.propertyobserver.com.au/international/what-property-investors-can-buy-in-the-least-livable-cities-in-the-world-six-to-10/2012082756216">We have also looked at numbers six to 10. </a>It rates somewhat OK in its education and healthcare levels, according to The Economist, but it's bought down by its stability and infrastructure.
You’ll have to brush up on your French if you want to buy property here. All the lisitings are in French on sites such as <a href="https://www.dzimmo.com/">dzimmo.com</a> and <a href="https://www.green-acres.com" target="_blank">green-acres.com</a>. 
The currency is the dinar – one Australian dollar is worth about 83 dinars.
The city was founded in 944 AD and has been occupied by various conquers ever since. Algeria achieved independence in 1962 but in the 1990s it descended into civil war. Since then the situation has been turbulent, with terrorist groups operating in the city.
That said, the city is home to some beautiful architecture dating back to 1097. In 2010 the population was 3.5 million.
Smart Traveller says it regularly receives information indicating that terrorists are planning attacks against a range of targets, including places frequented by foreigners, Western and Jewish interests, as well as premises and symbols associated with the Algerian government.
The investment website Global Property Guide says owning a rental property or one to be used as a hotel or resort can be beneficial but it would be wise to think carefully about purchasing real estate in Algeria because of the political strife.

What property investment is like in Algiers, one of the world's least liveable cities

An overnight report from the United Kingdom has suggested Shane Warne was preparing to relocate from Brighton in Melbourne to Britain and set up home with his soon-to-be new wife, Elizabeth Hurley.

The <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2194181/Shane-Warne-puts-Melbourne-home-market-amid-reports-Elizabeth-Hurley-investing-6million-mansion" target="_blank">Daily Mail report</a> suggested his Melbourne mansion was on the market, and that he and Hurley were off to Donnington Hall (pictured below), a 13-bedroom Georgian mansion on the Gloucestershire-Herefordshire border.

The Donnington Hall purchase rumour has been around for months, without denial, although this week Hurley took to Twitter saying: "Contrary to recent reports: no plans to leave glorious Gloucestershire!"

In November, the Ledbury Reporter revealed the house-hunting rumours when the couple strolled into Greggs the bakers on the High Street. 
"The town was buzzing with rumours the couple were looking for property as Liz ordered a <a href="https://www.malverngazette.co.uk/news/9895327.Liz_and_Shane_buy___6m_mansion_near_Ledbury/" target="_blank">custard slice and Shane, two sausage rolls</a>," the Malvern Gazette wrote yesterday.

The latest Daily Mail story comes after Hurley was reportedly looking for a Melbourne school to send her son, leading to more media speculation she was the one about to relocate to Australia, which she quickly denied on Twitter.
Title Tattle has sought clarification from Shane Warne via Twitter before publication, without success.
In April Shane Warne took to <a href="https://www.propertyobserver.com.au/victoria/shane-warne-denies-buying-healesville-property/2012042354390">Twitter to deny a Fairfax Media report</a> that he and his fiancée Liz Hurley had spent $1.6 million on a Healesville retreat.
The Melbourne Age entered the speculative fray on mid-afternoon Tuesday reporting there was a $20 million asking price on the Brighton home, but also acknowledging Warne's manager, James Erskine, denial that the Brighton home was for sale.
The Age claimed local sources said prospective buyers have been seen touring the five-bedroom property.

Ceaseless Shane Warne speculation – this time it's the Brighton mansion's reputed listing – amid custard slice rumour mill

They often jest that St Georges Terrace Perth is paved in gold. But Credit Suisse has paid $55.3 million for the 10 storey Stockland office building on Perth’s premium office strip for less that it last sold.
The sale of 45 St Georges Terrace through Savills WA was the second sale in the Perth office market this month.
But it last traded at $57.3 million in 2006. It was originally headquarters for the Reserver Bank of Australia which sold the block in 2001 for $18.75 million, according to RPData.
Stockland advised the sale of 45 St Georges Terrace was part of the group’s long-term strategy of selling down office and industrial assets to re-invest in residential, retirement and retail.
There had been a recent $55.2 million valuation; although the Australian Financial Review noted it was valued at $73 million in pre-GFC 2007. It had a $48 million valuation in 2009.
Savills was the sales agent on the transaction and the buyer was represented by CBRE.
The 45 St Georges Terrace property, set on a site area of 1,827sq m, comes with a total net lettable area of 10,017sq m.
The property has a rental income of about $5,971,595 per annum with a significant upcoming lease expiry of over 60% of net lettable area in early 2014.
Earlier this month there was an $82 million sale of 66 St Georges Terrace by the listed Investa Office Fund by AMP.

St Georges Terrace Perth paved with bronze as office block sells, but for less than last time

ASIC is “actively monitoring” the way lenders advertise their mortgage products as part of a clampdown on misleading advertising of financial products.
And adding more weight to its role as corporate and credit watchdog, ASIC will begin conducting surveillance of mortgage brokers from September 1.
Since July 2010 ASIC has forced 117 advertisers of financial products – some of them mortgage products – to either withdraw or modify their advertising in response to concerns about potentially misleading or deceptive conduct.
Lenders that have been forced to change the way they advertise their products following ASIC concerns include Rams (in relation to the advertised interest rate on its high-interest savings product) and Resi (in relation to the comparison rate on its home loan offering). Both lenders took action to address ASIC concerns.
Most recently ASIC forced GE Money to change the wording on online advertising of personal loans and debt consolidation following concerns that the advertising was potentially misleading.
The GE Money advertisements stated that consumers could borrow "from $3,000" with an interest rate "from 13.99% p.a".
However, the fine print disclosed that only loans over $20,000 were eligible for an interest rate starting from 13.99% p.a. For loans of $3,000, interest rates started at 15.79%, and could be much higher. GE has subsequently changed the wording to more clearly disclose the applicable interest rate.
“Market participants should be aware that if they don't adhere to their legal obligations when promoting financial products, ASIC will take action,” a spokesperson for ASIC told Property Observer.
“ASIC wants to encourage advertising that is clear, accurate and balanced."
In addition to a number of ASIC's stakeholder teams proactively monitor financial product advertising from deposit takers, credit providers and insurance providers, ASIC will also be monitoring advertising specifically targeted at regional areas in addition to our monitoring of national advertising.
In February, ASIC released a new “good practice” guide for advertising financial products.
 “Advertisements for financial products should give a balanced message about the returns, benefits and risks associated with the product. Benefits should not be given undue prominence compared with risks,” the guide says.
The guide highlights that warnings, disclaimers, qualifications and fine print in advertisements should be given “sufficient prominence to effectively convey key information to a reasonable member of the audience on first viewing of the advertisement”. 
With regard to fees and costs, ASIC says advertisements should give a “realistic impression of the overall level of fees and costs a consumer is likely to pay, including any indirect fees or costs”.
Separately from its monitoring of financial products advertisements, ASIC will also launch a surveillance campaign between September and December 2012 designed to identify entities engaging in consumer credit activities without a licence.
The surveillance campaign is part of ASIC's existing role as credit regulator, which it assumed in June 2010 with all mortgage brokers required to hold a credit licence or be licensed as credit representative under a licence holder from January 1 2011 and abide by responsible lending obligations under the National Credit Act.
Individuals or businesses who engage in credit activities are required to hold an Australian credit licence, or be an authorised representative of a credit licence holder.
In July, ASIC cancelled the Australian credit licence of mortgage broker and aggregator Pump Financial Pty Limited, of Redcliffe, Queensland, after it was found it failed to hold membership of an approved external dispute resolution scheme (EDR) – one of the requirements of licence holders.
Pump Financial Pty Limited has the right to appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal for a review of ASIC's decision.
ASIC commissioner Peter Kell says the campaign is designed to identify traders who applied for an Australian credit licence, but withdrew their application, or had it refused.
"By applying for a licence, they indicated an intention to engage in credit activities. Unless the trader is an authorised credit representative, or subsequently obtains an Australian credit licence, they cannot engage in credit activities," he says. "Anyone caught engaging in unlicensed credit activity may face criminal prosecution or be banned from obtaining a credit licence. "We want to ensure consumers feel confident when dealing with lenders, brokers and other credit providers and one way to do this is by weeding out players who aren’t playing by the rules."
