A check by Property Observer of the RP Data indicators suggests the suburb has a median house price of $940,000, which is up 5% annually, and 12% over the past five year.
But it appears private treaty vendors are required to discount by 13.2% which appear a little higher than other neighbouring suburbs. <a target="_blank" href="/news">Darlinghurst's</a> required discount is 6% and <a target="_blank" href="/news">Redfern</a> is 9%, according to RP Data.
Last year <a target="_blank" href="https://www.propertyobserver.com.au/new-south-wales/sydney-s-surry-hills-ranked-23rd-most-stylish-neighbourhood-in-the-world/2012101157094">Surry Hills was ranked as the 23rd most stylish neighbourhood in the world</a>, according to lifestyle magazine Complex, which was founded by American fashion designer Marc Ecko.
The ranking says <a target="_blank" href="/news">Surry Hills</a> is Sydney's main hub for fashion, with a number of notable businesses including Dear Pluto, Reuben Hills, Via Alley, Holy Kitsch! and Bourke Street Bakery.
“Crown Street, the heart of the neighbourhood, is where you'll find all of the restaurants, bars, and coffee shops,” author Julian Kimble writes.

It came after he dropped the price of his retreat to $2.2 million this year through selling agent John Renouf of Drew Lindsay Property Bowral.
The 4462 square metre garden estate (pictured below) was initially listed at $2.6 million in 2011.

NSW Ombudsman Bruce Barbour sells Burradoo after 28-month listing

Not to be outbid by Asian investors, local investors are reasserting their presence in the Melbourne CBD and city fringe, according to Colliers agent Daniel Wolman.
Prime CBD retail assets, and those in nearby tightly held city fringe retail strips, were in "hot" demand amid Colliers International’s Winter 2013 national auction portfolio.
Achieving an outstanding yield of 3.48% was a freestanding Victorian-style building at 776 Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn which had not changed hands for more than five decades.
Tenanted by Rhodes Hair Studio, the fringe retail strip offering sold under the hammer for $1.78 million through Daniel Wolman and his colleague Jeremy Gruzewski.
“The tenant, Rhodes Hair Studio, has resided in this building for more than 25 years," Mr Wolman said.
“Hawthorn, and particularly the Glenferrie Road precinct, is tightly held and always in high demand from investors and tenants alike, but even we were amazed by the yield we were able to achieve," he said.
Mr Wolman and colleague Matthew Stagg sold an Australia Post outlet at 839 Bourke Street in the Victoria Harbour precinct in Docklands for $902,000 along with the Brown Gouge dry cleaners premises at 837 Bourke Street, for $545,000.
The consecutive auctions attracted seven bidders.
“With lower interest rates, finance for investors is becoming much quicker and simpler to access,” Mr Wolman said.
“Banks and investors want to see a secure lease to well-established tenants, and there have been some strong examples of late.
"Local investors are getting back into the market in a big way, and properties in prime locations are at the top of their wish list.
“Last year the activity was primarily drive by Asian investors," he added.
“The influx of Asian capital targeting Melbourne CBD commercial property, and the ease with which purchasers can enter the market via their self-managed super funds, contributed to a noticeable increase in sales last year.
“But to date, 2013 has been all about the domestic purchaser.”

Local investors buying up well-tenanted Melbourne retail property offerings

Horse breeder Tania Carmichael has sold Ourmundi, set on 20 hectares in the Noosa hinterland, for $2.5 million.

The six-bedroom home was designed by Stephen Kidd for the original owners, Wolfgang Groh&nbsp;and wife Nicola Smith, who founded Nice Cream in Sydney in 1993.

Groh and his wife bought the 20-hectare block of land in 2002 for $400,000.

In 2007, the house and property were sold to Queensland entrepreneur Dean Shannon for $2.4 million, $600,000 less than its then&nbsp;ambitious $3 million asking price.

Carmichael bought the property in April 2008 for $3,075,000.

Investec Bank has sold the top floor penthouse space in its Potts Point development, but divided into two apartments rather than as one residence.
Its a 430 square metre Wylde Street space that came with a combined $13 million asking price. It has 115 square metres of car spaces and storage. They each sold for around $6 million. 
The offering sits atop a seven story complex which will replace the former Oakford Apartments motel on its scheduled 2015 completion.
The development, high above industrial Garden Island, is set to contain 21 apartments and 30 car parking spaces.
Designed by Adam Haddow of SJB, there will be a mixture of six one-bedroom apartments, three two-bedroom apartments and 11 three-bedroom apartments and the single floor penthouse space for which the sale price/s have not been revealed.
Deposits were taken for 16 of the 21 apartments in the new development at its March VIP launch for prices ranging between $795,000 and $5.2 million. Property Observer gathers the developers were minded to split the penthouse floor into two over recent weeks to match the subdued demand for penthouses. 
A project at 10 Wylde Street will be the first apartment building of a major size constructed in the inner eastern suburb for more than five years.
"10 Wylde Street has the only true north-facing penthouse to be built in Potts Point in 20 years," said the sales marketing material of Andrew Hoggett and Jason Boon of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.rwebay.com.au/874136/">Richardson &amp; Wrench Elizabeth Bay</a>.  It was listed inconjunction with Caroline Fagerlund of CBRE Residential.
Developed by Investec and designed by SJB Architects, this is the second development proposed for the site after the earlier, larger, $70 million project was abandoned after the first developer, Ashington collapsed in 2010. 
Investec, which had lent to the Ashington to fund the project, took control in 2011.
Investec submitted $17 million plans with less ambitious design and price expectations scrapping its prestige, but expensively tricky, curved glass building corner.
It was in 2008 when Potts Point briefly ruled triumphantly holding the Australian record apartment mantle following the $20 million off-the-plan penthouse sale in the then Ashington development at 10 Wylde Street.
With views across Woolloomooloo Bay towards the harbour, city and Opera House, the proposed two-level penthouse was set to have 530 square metres of internal space and 115 square metres of balcony.
The nine-apartment project had been designed by Tzannes Associates, with interiors fashioned by the designer Alex Perry.
The sale, which was in train for more than a year, was negotiated by Richardson &amp; Wrench Elizabeth Bay-Potts Point agents Geoff Cox and Jason Boon to the elusive property developer Duncan Hardie.
The sale didn't proceed after Ashington's implosion and abandonment of the project.

10 Wylde Street, Potts Point penthouse space sold by Investec

The logistics property firm, Goodman Group has raised €550 million ($775 million) for its Goodman European Logistics Fund (GELF).
Investor interest was strong for the €1.9 billion GELF, which is Goodman’s largest European investment vehicle with 95 assets in 11 countries.
Earlier in the year it raised another €550 million in its first Eurobond issue. With the new debt and equity the fund has an €800 million capacity for further investment.
“The overwhelming demand for the equity raise reflects the fund’s high quality portfolio and the attractiveness of the European logistics property market to large institutional investors,” the CEO Greg Goodman said.
Emmanuel Van der Stichele, the GELF fund director said with its pan-European diversified portfolio GELF presented an "exceptional opportunity" to invest in the European logistics real estate market.
"We intend to use the proceeds to further strengthen our market position and the ongoing diversification of our portfolio, with a focus on prime assets in key European logistics locations." Mr Van der Stichele added.


As at March 2013, GELF’s occupancy rate stood at 97%. The portfolio has a weighted average lease expiry (WALE) to first break of 4.9 years.

Another €550 million raised for Goodman European Logistics Fund (GELF)

Sydney entrepreneur Drew Muirhead has sold his five-bedroom Cottage Point waterfront on Sydney's Pittwater in one line, as plans to secure 12 takers each with a share, didn't get anywhere.

It had been given a nominal $7.8 million value on its 2012 marketing with each portion listed in $650,000 part ownership shares.

The expectations were around $4 million on its recent remarketing with Title Tattle gleaning its since sold at $3.35 million.

It was bought by Catherine Verschuer, wife of Paul Verschuer, Westpac managing director, foreign exchange, commodities, carbon and energy. The couple own Waterfall, a Duffys Forest acreage, which cost $6 million in 2006.

Muirhead was offering the property under a co-ownership agreement drawn up by PodProperty chief executive Jeremy Levitt, who says the method has become more popular especially for holiday homes.

That approach has resonated strongly with the market.
