The enormity of delivering a true skyscraper in Australia's new development market is often overlooked.

It has taken the best part of a decade since plans for Chevron One were first unveiled, but the 52-storey tower is now complete, with residents collecting their keys and moving into what has become one of the Gold Coast's most recognisable new landmarks.

Rising 127 metres above Chevron Island, Chevron One stands almost twice as high as any other building on the island. Its scale places it alongside the trio of towers at Jewel, arguably the last truly significant addition to the central Gold Coast skyline when they were completed around six years ago.

While there are several developments underway around a similar height to Chevron One, they are more concentrated within clusters of the highest towers in the city. The fact Chevron One sits within a developing precinct, looking back at the other high-rise developments in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, makes it a different proposition altogether. It will certainly become a reference point on the Gold Coast skyline.

Developer Bensons Property Group is behind the 52-storey tower, which has just shy of 250 apartments, along with an exhaustive list of resident amenity spread across what is the largest development site ever assembled on Chevron Island.

The tower has been the talk of the town for years, says Ray White Projects Gold Coast agent Caitlin Rosenboom, who is selling the remaining apartments.

"People have been watching Chevron One go up for years," Rosenboom says, adding that many prospective buyers have been surprised by the scale of the views once they step inside.

"It's only when they walk through a completed apartment that they truly understand the position of the building," Rosenboom says.

"The views are jaw-dropping. Whether you're looking east over the ocean, across Surfers Paradise, along the river systems or out to the hinterland, every level offers something different but equally impressive."

While new apartment developments continue to emerge across the Gold Coast, Rosenboom says opportunities to secure a completed apartment with this level of outlook are becoming increasingly rare.

"The size of the site is something that would be incredibly difficult to replicate today," she says.

"That's allowed Chevron One to deliver the sort of amenity, open space and resident facilities that very few projects can offer. There are not many completed apartment buildings on the Gold Coast right now that can compete with the combination of scale, quality and amenity."

There's around 2,000 sqm of amenity solely for the use of residents of Chevron One. Club One features a uniquely shaped swimming pool that mirrors the footprint of the building itself, set within a extensively landscaped gardens. Martinsell, the stately Barossa country estate owned by the Downer political dynasty family has been sold to Peter and Marijan Bulley.
The property had been in the family since 1974, sometimes referred to as Downer Manor.
It was the home of Downer's late parents Lady Mary and Sir Alick and sold following Lady Mary's sudden death in 2014.
Sir Alick died in 1981.
Oren Klemich of Klemich Real Estate secured the $1.9 million sale after having expectations of around $2 million.
The 1901 home, one of the Barossa's grandest abodes comes with 4.85 hectares of sauvignon blanc grapes, which are contracted to Grant Burge Wines.
There's also a chicken run, an old apple packing shed with red gum timber beams and a shearing shed.
Alexander Downer and wife Nicola live in London where he is our High Commissioner.
The Downers last year sold their Mount George family home to move to London.

Cloyne, the most glamourous of 1920s Toorak residences, has been sold again.
This time its been bought by emerging childcare centre entreprenuer, Darren Misquitta. He co-founded Oxanda Education whose program focusses on music, movement, creative play, social development and physical fitness. 
It's a home which can only be described as tempered eclecticism along with Karina, wife, and their two young children, who have been living at a classy Altona home.
The five bedroom, five bathroom Harold Desbrowe-Annear-designed house, with prominent port corchere on its Toorak Road frontage, last sold at $3.8 million in 2014 to a Chinese businessman and before that in 2011 at $3.5 million. No price has emerged yet after the Sotheby's International sale. 
Cloyne has a fascinating past after being built for Louis Nelken, reputedly a former Royal family butler, who married into the establishment Baillieu family. 
They finally left Cloyne with a swell party in 1955 attended by establishment families, Baillieu, Hordern, Myer, Manifold, Chirnside and even the Dekyvere's from Sydney.
The swinging 1960s then saw Coyne owned by the flamboyant playboy Don Busch. The tycoon, but inexperienced pilot, died in 1970 in a Mustang plane crash at Bendigo in country Victoria.
It sold in 1971 for $145,000 to Toorak hotelier William Drever.
Long describe as one of the most architecturally significant buildings in Melbourne, Sothebys agent Greg Herman it was "truly a Melbourne landmark".

However the 1833 Georgian <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-glebe-122459534" target="_blank">Regency villa, Lyndhurst</a> in Glebe which had $7 million plus hopes sold soon afterwards.

Regarded as one of the inner Sydney’s most historically significant homes, it last sold at $3.3 million in 2005 to stockbroker Tim Eustace and his partner Salvatore Panui.
Eustace and Panui are bound for Darlinghurst, where they bought another historic inner city landmark, Iona, for $16 million from entertainment industry couple Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin.
The top result under the auction hammer of the weekend was in Strathfield, in Sydney's inner west where Dr Vipin Goyal sold his seven-bedroom home for $6.83 million through Devine Real Estate.

Lyndhurst, Glebe finds $7 million plus buyer

The mystery buyer of former ANZ banker Steve Bellotti's Palm Beach retreat are fellow Mosman residents, Kellie and Stew Bailey.
The bullish beachfront price has been revealed at $12.3 million.
Stew Bailey is best known having sold The Bailey Group, co-founded with his brother Matt, to the Photon Group for $36.8 million in 2004. He remained at Photon as managing director of the field marketing division. 
Bellotti and Bailey reputedly did the deal over dinner.
Bellotti, ANZ’s then managing director of global markets, had paid $8.4 million in 2011 to dentist Graham O'Neil for the 558-square-metre holding with an architect-designed two-storey, five-bedroom beach house complete with boat and watercraft storage area with hydraulic floor lift.
It ranks among the few Iluka Road properties with title to the high-water mark, whereas the other properties are mostly reserve frontage overlooking Pittwater.
Its latest sale ranks as the second highest sale on Iluka Road, still some way short of the $15 million street record set when Uncle Toby's founder, Doug Shear bought Anakela from the late grocer tycoon Jim Fleming and his widow Angela in 2007.
The highest sale in the interim was when AC/DC founding member Malcolm Young and his wife O'Linda spent $10 million in 2014.
Round on the oceanside, the Toohey hotelier family have finally sold their longtime Palm Beach weekender, Tigh na Mana.
It has been in the family for more than five decades, selling at a little less than its $3.95 million revised asking price through Christie's International.
Tigh na Mara, one of only 20 properties fronting Ocean Road, last traded for £19,000 in the early 1960s.
The family patriarch Vincent James Toohey - who built the original Time and Tide Hotel in Dee Why - secured 15 Ocean Road with his wife Irene.
The beach house on 900 square metres is directly opposite the sand.
More than $4.9 million had been initially sought. 
It was 1981 when the late Kerry Packer broke through the suburb's million-dollar threshold with his $1 million purchase from the MacCormick family. 
His daughter, Australia's newest billionaire Gretel Packer secured the Palm Beach retreat in the recent settlement that divvied up the assets from the family's vast fortune.
The bungalow on its well-shaded 4000 sqm beachfront reserve holding was transferred recently with a notional $24 million value.

Bellotti buyer revealed

The 26 Vaucluse Road, Vaucluse offering has been snappily sold given a lack of high-end real estate for sale in eastern Sydney.
Goldman Sachs executive director David Nolan and his wife Anita secured a bullish $12.5 million.
The weekend saw<a href="https://www.domain.com.au/news/latest-buyer-of-paddingtons-1185m-landmark-windsor-castle-lists-in-vaucluse-20160421-gobrj5/" target="_blank"> their Vaucluse residence</a> sell only a week after the historic Tudor style home was listed with $11 million to $12 million through McGrath agent Will Manning and Ben Collier.
The Nolans bought it for $4.6 million in 2002.
They are off to the $11.85 million landmark former Windsor Castle hotel.

$12.5 million Vaucluse sale in a week

A modernist Russell Jack-designed four-bedroom house at St Ives has been sold for the first time.
The <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-st+ives-122145106" target="_blank">107 Hunter Ave</a> offering sold before auction for $1,452,000 through James Levy at Savills Cordeau Marshall, St Ives.
It was snapped up with two weeks.
It all all the original fittings from 1967 being a deceased estate of the Waterhouse family.
It was the first sale of the house which has architectural significance. The buyers' guidance was $1.25 million.
Russell Jack, a well-known modernist architect, designed the home with flat roof.
Russell Jack studied architecture and town planning in the late 1940s after returning from service in the Royal Australian Air Force.
Like many young Australian architects in the 1950s, Jack travelled around the UK and Europe looking at buildings.
After returning to Sydney in 1954, he set up practice with John Allen, and Keith Cottier joined them the following year. The firm became Allen Jack + Cottier in 1965.
The Jack House, designed by Russell and his wife, Pamela as their won family home, won the Sulman Award in 1956. 
His adaptation of modernist principles, which became known as the Sydney School, saw his often take advantage of bush settings.

Russell Jack St Ives, Sydney trophy sold

The Vestey home on the harbour at Kirribilli fetched $10.22 million when auctioned yesterday.
There were four bidders for one of the handful of freestanding homes with absolute waterfrontage in the lower north shore suburb.
It sold under the auction hammer after 49 years ownership having last traded at $66,000. 
The classic, but tired 1930s estate at <a href="https://www.belleproperty.com/buying/NSW/North-Shore-~-Lower/Kirribilli/House/8P3062-19-elamang-avenue-kirribilli-nsw-2061" target="_blank">19 Elamang Ave</a>, was knocked down to the bidder with the luck 8 bidding registration card, Michael and Louise Tang, who operate supermarkets in Papua New Guinea.
The couple, who own nearby, were the last to enter the bidding contest, at just over $10 million.
There had been a $7 million opening offer, and with a slow start the bidding flew once car dealer John Newell entered the fray at $7.6 million. Newell had been the last to lodge his bidding registration with what proved to be his unlucky bidding card, 1904.
Announced as on the market at $9.6 million, the 765 sqm property was offered following the death last October of Joyce Strong, née Vestey. 
She was the mother of the notorious Michael Telling, who died in 2010, and the grandmother of the 37 year old, Matthew. 
She was the daughter of the Hon Leonard Vestey, 1888-1954, the third son of 1st Baron Vestey. The Vestey family became one of the biggest butchery families in the world, built on the merits of cold-storage shipping. William, the first Lord Vestey, and his brother, Edmund set up an integrated business raising and killing their cattle on the cheap land in Australia and Latin America and shipping meat to Britain, where they developed a chain of butcher shops.
Dr Thomas Hugh Strong, her second husband, was with the United Nations food and agricultural organisation.
The property had been listed with a price guide of $9 million to $9.5 million through Belle Property agents Mark Jackson and Matthew Smythe. 
The last freestanding home on the Kirribilli strip traded nine years ago when money media personality Paul Clitheroe paid $7.75 million.

The five level 1890's Queen Anne style home has been restored and renovated featuring balconies which overlook the heated pool to the City and the Sydney harbour.
The property sold through Sotheby's Double Bay agent Walter Antonelli.
It's tipped that the listing fetched $10 million plus.
It was a busy time for Darling Point after fund manager Charlie Aitken and wife Ellie secured around $10.5 million elsewhere on the peninsula through Ray White agents Richard Carwin and Elliot Placks.
They bought the four bedroom villa for $6.95 million in 2008.
