BPG’s Palm Beach project Liérre races to 35 per cent sold as construction commencement nears

Melbourne developer <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/pdg-corporation">PDG</a>&nbsp;has commenced early works on its $1.5 billion One Queens Bridge development, reviving a Southbank site that has remained dormant for more than a decade.

Located on one of Melbourne’s most significant riverfront sites, the project, to be known as No.1 Queens Bridge, will deliver a 71-level mixed-use tower comprising 588 residences and a hotel, complemented by dining and wellness offerings overlooking the Yarra River.

Originally constructed in the mid-1800s, the Queens Bridge Hotel will form a central part of the development, with PDG embracing and elevating the historic pub as a key arrival point into the precinct. The landmark building will anchor a new hospitality and dining offering, including a rooftop bar, a grand atrium entry, and a proposed global luxury boutique hotel integrated into the podium levels.

Crafted by internationally renowned design studio <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/architects/cox-architecture">COX</a>, in collaboration with ODO and PDG, the project draws inspiration from its riverfront setting. The architecture explores the movement and fluidity of the Yarra River, expressed through a sculptural facade composed of six vertical pleats extending the full height of the 71-storey tower.

The pleated form creates a distinctive three-dimensional expression that captures and reflects Melbourne’s changing light throughout the day, adding a dynamic presence to the city skyline.

Residents will have access to more than 5,500 sqm of amenities across multiple levels, creating an “urban village in the sky” that redefines how people live across generations.

PDG Founder and Managing Director Vince Giuliano said the project represents a major milestone for both the site and Melbourne’s next wave of city-shaping developments.

“This project marks the revival of one of Melbourne’s most prominent riverfront sites and the beginning of a new chapter for Southbank," Giuliano said.

Built in 1950, the home was last sold for $690,000 in 2011.

Peter Higgins, who co-founded mortgage lending giant Mortgage Choice, has secured development approval to create nine luxury homes on his Avalon Beach estate, Marara.
The homes, on the vast 12,660 square metres Cabarita Road waterfront, have been designed by local architect Mark Hurcum.
No doubt the gated community will be as classy as Mitala, the recently completed Hurcum-designed project round at Newport.
The homes will be priced from $5.5 million to $12.5 million, with Peter and wife Rebecca set to retain one.
Marara, translated to flying fish in Tahitian, was owned from 1930 by gynaecologist Sir Herbert Schlink, who died in 1962.
His widow, gynaecologist Meg Mulvey, resided there until she died in 2001.
The couple met in 1945, when Bertie was 62 and Meg 28.
The Careel Bay holding was sold to Higgins in 2003 for $15 million, with another block added costing $3.2 million.

This time it's a weekender at Avalon Beach.
The international couple reside in a $3 million apartment at Walsh Bay.
Demarcus has previously said Sydney feels like home and recently tweeted that Avalon was her “little bit of heaven”.
They’ve spent $3.25 million on a 1930s home that was described as a vintage bush cottage in its marketing by LJ Hooker agent Andrew Mappin, who secured the sale after just 30 days.

A longtime Avalon local and former Chadwicks model, Van Dyck is a third-generation builder.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home goes to May 30 through McGrath Avalon agent Adrian Venturi.
In 2003 Van Dyck was among the pioneers of reality TV renovation on the Nine Network’s DIY Rescue show, for which he was nominated for a Logie for best new talent up against Dr Chris Brown, then on Harry’s Practice, Daniel Frederiksen from Stingers, Home and Away’s Kip Gamblin, and Andrew O’Keefe on Deal Or No Deal.
The show was billed as offering the solution to “do-it-yourself-mad husbands and partners great at starting jobs around the house but lousy at finishing them”.
Van Dyck joined interior designer Tara Dennis and landscaper Greg Norton and host Leah McLeod, as they put broken homes back together.

But despite its popular beachside chic design, like many Sydney vendors, it took 90 days to find its buyer.
McGrath agents Jonathan Fletcher and James Baker gave an initial $2.1 million guide for its February auction, but the guidance dropped before auction to $1,975,000.
After the auction, the agents endeavoured to find $1.82 million to $2 million.
They ended up suggesting $1,775,000 and won't say what price they eventually got.
Behind a white picket fence, the home has four bedrooms, with a designer stone kitchen.
Cullen paid $1.46 million for a quaint 1950s fibro cottage in 2014 and undertook its renovation two years later.
Over the Christmas break, Cullen, the former editor-in-chief of Elle Australia, married producer Hayden Guppy,and bought one street away.
