Both the Sydney and Melbourne markets recorded a quickening of sales pace during October, according to the latest Australian Property Monitors heat chart.

Sydney still sits in second place, with Canberra retaining the mantle of the quickest-selling market, but the gap has narrowed.

Perth and Darwin were the capital cities where days on market extended in length, according to APM research analyst Clinton McNabb.

Adelaide, Perth and Canberra's latest October days on market tally sit below their October 2011 figure.
