Nick Collishaw is to step down as Mirvac's chief executive and managing director to be replaced by Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz, now the London-based managing director of LaSalle Investment Management Europe. The company announced this morning that Collishaw will leave Mirvac on October 31, and Lloyd-Hurwitz will take on the chief executive role of the business before the end of the year.
"The board has been focused on succession planning for some time," Mirvac chairman James MacKenzie says.
"Having now identified an outstanding candidate in Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz, Nick Collishaw and the board agreed that it was time to commence an orderly transition,” he says. With 23 years' experience across four continents, Lloyd-Hurwitz has previously held senior executive roles at Macquarie Group and Lend Lease.
Collishaw joined Mirvac in 2005 after its merger with the James Fielding Group and was appointed managing director in 2008.
MacKenzie says Collishaw will receive his contractual entitlements on his departure, and thanked him for his leadership of Mirvac Group over the past four years.
“As chief executive, Nick has introduced a renewed conservatism to Mirvac’s business model and capital structure consistent with the underlying business and funding environment,” he says.
“He has simplified the business, positioning it for earnings growth in the years ahead. The company’s sound strategy and strong financial position are testament to Nick’s leadership.
“Nick has delivered on the group’s objectives and also established a clear strategy for Mirvac focused squarely on the group’s core activities.
"The work that Nick has led to build Mirvac’s capacity and preparedness to partner with wholesale investors will be central to our strategy going forward.
“This has been an important chapter for Mirvac, but over the next few years the group has a different set of challenges.
"The board is keen to accelerate cultural change in the business, and wants to place even greater focus on the group’s communication with stakeholders," MacKenzie says.
MacKenzie will lead the company in the period between Collishaw’s departure and Lloyd-Hurwitz’s arrival.

Essington, the record-setting 10-bedroom Stanmore Victorian Italianate house, has been listed with a $2.95 million asking price.
The Gordon Crescent mansion last sold in 2011 at $2.3 million and in late 2009 for $2.5 million.
The 1888 residence on 920 square metres had been listed with record $3 million-plus expectations in 2008.
It was built by pastoralist Benjamin Eves for his family of 14 children and bequeathed by the family to the Presbyterian Church in the early 1950s.
It was a home for young men from the country, known as the Malcolm Downie Hostel, until sold in the early 1980s.
The  house fetched $620,000 when bought by the O'Rourke family in 1993.

Stanmore's record-setting Essington relisted

The partial sale and lease back of David Jones’ flagship stores or developing the sites to include residential or commercial property would not add value for shareholders, according to UBS.
Investors and analysts have been analysising the options for David Jones’ three Melbourne and Sydney flagship stores given the recent takeover speculation.
David Jones has been mooted as a potential leveraged buyout candidate, with much of the value around its property portfolio.
The three flagship stores have a $462.5 million book value, but UBS says they could secure $666 million on-market.
UBS considered three options for the properties: develop the sites to add storeys above for residential use; a partial sale; and a partial lease.
The broker concluded that adding storeys above the Sydney store would only add $47 million value, or a mere 9¢ a share, the Australian Financial Review reported.
UBS said combining the two Sydney sites into the one store was unlikely to work, but could add up to 4.1% to David Jones’ earnings per share if it did.
The third option, to explore leasing unproductive space in the higher levels, was “unlikely to be economical given”, the broker said, due to required capital expenditure, low rental rates and potential for new tenants to cannibalise David Jones' retail operations.

David Jones flagship stores have $666 million potential

The mansion near Byron Bay where Paul Hogan married his Crocodile Dundee co-star Linda Kozlowski features in this year's season of Channel Nine's Farmer Wants A Wife series.
And the real estate agent, Nicolette van Wijngaarden of Unique Estates, hopes the program will show the Possum Creek property to many more potential buyers.
The agency has the home listed for auction on behalf of the entrepreneur Duncan Mount and his former model wife Sally.
"It certainly can't hurt," agency founder van Wijngaarden told the local paper when asked about the priceless free publicity the property would achieve on the show.
She said it was the first property she showed Farmer's producers when they began searching for a location in the Byron hinterland.
The Cedar Springs homestead is set on 46 hectares with a resort-style pool used for the opening introductions between the bachelors and the wannabe farm wives.
The property, which has a guide price of $6.5 million, down from the original listing of $7.9 million, will be auctioned on site on September 29.

VCAT, Victoria’s planning tribunal, has today given Windsor Hotel owner Adi Halim the extension he sought – until January 2015 – to get the controversial hotel redevelopment under way.
“I am unable to conclude there are any compelling reasons to refuse to extend the time as requested,” VCAT senior member Jeanette Rickards said in her ruling.
Halim had warned that the historic hotel built in the marvellous Melbourne era  might have to shut its doors and cancel guest and event bookings if the development permit were not extended.

His legal team was fronted by barrister C J Canavan, QC, who was instructed by Norton Rose.
The permit required work to begin by November 4 this year and be finished by November 2014. 
Planning Minister Matthew Guy was critical the request to extend the permit had not been submitted earlier and argued the applicant continued to take bookings in 2012 and was promoting its 130th birthday celebrations also for 2013.
But Jeanette Rickards found the bureaucratic process of obtaining the second heritage permit took approximately 13 months.

"As a result the applicant has been left with only seven months at most, and more like three months, given the endorsement of plans by the minister in April 2012, to go through the compliance processes to ensure the proposal is ready for the development to commence," she noted.
"I do not accept the submission of the minister that the applicant should have commenced the development earlier.
"This is an unrealistic suggestion that does not appear to take account of the integration of the planning and heritage requirements of the proposed development and a recognition that the processes under each approval must be integrated to ensure the development is properly carried out.
"Whilst it is in the interests of the public that the development be undertaken in a timely manner, given the significance of the heritage building, it is also in the public's interest that such development is done carefully and in a proper manner," the ruling concluded.
The land currently contains the 19th-century Hotel Windsor building and an adjoining 1960s building on the corner of Spring and Bourke streets.
The applicant sought a review of the decision of the Minister for Planning that refused to extend time.
The applicant sought the time for commencement to be extended January 2015 and for completion t0 January 2017.
 The permit allows development of a residential hotel comprising part demolition of existing hotel and construction of a new 26-storey tower and north wing extension.

Victoria’s planning tribunal allows delay in controversial $285 million Windsor Hotel redevelopment

A 1960s brick Castlecrag house built by renowned professor of engineering Stan Shaw has been offered to the market for the first time. Shaw, who was born in 1911, died in 1992, and his widow, Noel Jessie, died in March this year.
Enjoying Middle Harbour and city skyline views, the house was designed to be part of the landscape.

Castlecrag house auction offering with great aeronautics

Pacific Brands has sold its Bonds factory in Wentworthville for $27 million. The factory has been in operation since 1923. The historically important site in Dunmore Street contains working examples of 1920s factory construction, mainly the cutting room.

It will generate a one-off sale profit in 2013-14 of about $11 million for the company.

The sale completes a transformation program to manufacture offshore started in 2009 when it was announced the factory would close. Some 223 people would lose their jobs after Pacific Brands, the company that makes the brand of Bonds and Berlei, announced it would axe 1,850 jobs across the group.

Pacific Brands sells its Bonds factory in Wentworthville

Runnymede station near Richmond in north-west Queensland has been listed for September 7 receivership auction through Ray White Rural agent Kevin Currie. It had been the long-time farm of John Wharton, the mayor of the Richmond Shire Council.
He lost control of the 20,200-hectare property, which had been with his family for about 96 years, in late 2011 when Bankwest appointed  insolvency firm KordaMentha to take control.
At the time Wharton said the receivers had moved in after a debt repayment of more than $1 million was submitted to the bank beyond deadline. "They just came in and bloody shut the gate," he told the AM program on ABC Radio.
In an act of solidarity, more than 60 beef producers converged on <a href="https://rwmagazine.com.au/country-fortnightly/-mixed-farming/1/23914/">Runnymede</a> to protest about what they described as unfair lending practices. Cloncurry Shire mayor Andrew Daniels suggested some banks didn't understand the challenges landowners currently faced after two very wet seasons and the live export debacle.
Bob Katter, the Federal Member for Kennedy, noted it just needed one bank to start fire selling and then the region's farm values would come down.  Katter advised the protesters he had spoken to the Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Reserve Bank governor Glenn Stevens about the need to reform the rural banking sector.
In a statement to the ABC last November, Bankwest strongly denied placing Runnymede Station into receivership without enough warning. It said it had been working with John Wharton over a number of years to try to reach a mutually acceptable outcome.
Wharton said last year that he had paid all the interest and reduced debt by $3 million with other property sales.
Wharton, who has an <a target="_blank" href="https://runnymede-bankwest.blogspot.com.au/">occasional blog</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.propertyobserver.com.au/https://www.facebook.com/pages/Runnymede-V-Bankwest/230494100356113">Facebook page</a>, is a well-known figure in the region having been mayor of the shire since 1998.
Wharton has lawyers fighting his battle, with the bank having engaged Stewart Levitt, from Sydney-based firm Levitt Robinson, known for his fight with the banks over Storm Financial, according to the Courier Mail's City Beat columnist Tony Grant-Taylor.

Storm looms as Charters Towers district Runnymede station listed after rural lending stoush

A 1927 Woollahra manor home last sold in 1968 by the entreprenuer Harry M Miller has been listed for September 11 auction.
The F. Glynn Gilling-designed house, which sits on 1,365 square metres, was built for Justice Allen Maxwell and his wife, Sadie.
He was initially a judge in the District Court in the late 1920s, then in the Suprme Court from 1934 until he decided to retire, becoming the chairman of Amalgamated Television Services Pty Ltd (ATN-7) in 1955.
The five-bedroom, five-bathroom Edgecliff Road battleaxe house has harbour-view terraces. It's been listed through Kim Jones at Di Jones Real Estate, who says the vendor even secured a couple of couches in the last sale, which are still in the Edgecliff Road family home.
Jones is telling buyers $6 million plus for the property, which last traded at $121,500 in 1968 when bought by the Stephens family.
Miller's better-known residences included Muralla on Martin Road, Centennial Park, his former Woolloomoolloo warehouse and the 41st floor Horizon, Darlinghurst sub-penthouse.  
Centennial Park is where in 1977 he hosted Prince Charles for Christmas drinks.
The 1906 mansion Muralla was the inspiration for the central family home location of the Patrick White book The Eye of the Storm.
The Queen Anne-style mansion was had been bought by Miller for $220,000 in 1973 and sold in 1979 for $567,000.
The 2,300-square-metre estate comprises a two-level mansion and a championship all-weather tennis court with night lights, a heated swimming pool and two-storey stables.
Miller joined writer Patrick White and other local residents in Jack Mundey's green ban protests to save Centennial Park in the early 1970s after the state government announced plans to bulldoze many of the private houses and concrete Centennial and Moore parks to provide an envisaged Olympic venue in a bid to host the 1988 games.

One of Harry M Miller's hand-me-downs – a 1920s F. Glynn Gilling Woollahra manor home – listed for sale

The Greensborough home with a very long association with the Cordner medical family – and their Melbourne Football Club representation – sold for $1.3 million at its weekend auction.

Ashmead was built for the Cordner family in 1932 and has been held in the family <a target="_blank" href="/news">for 80 years</a>. It was designed in the inter-war English Domestic Revival style – rendered, gabled terracotta tiled roofs, half timbering, shuttered multi-paned windows, tall brick chimneys with terracotta chimney pots and basketweave clinker brickwork.
There were two bidders once the Jellis Craig auction got underway, with a $950,000 opening vendor bid. The property was called on the market at around $1.2 million.
Jellis Craig agent Liz Walker noted an intending developer had been outbid by the new owner who was in Greece, where he spends part of every year.
It's been reported the buyer will modernise the house's floorplan and may build a house for his mother at the rear of the 1,834-square-metre block.
The house and its Monterey Cypress hedge were protected from development, although the house's views had been interrupted by the new Banyule pool complex across Grimshaw Street.
Melbourne's auction success rate fell from 56% to 55%, according to the Real Estate Institute of Victoria, below the year to date clearance rate of 60%.
Enzo Raimondo, the REIV chief, notes while the overall Melbourne clearance outcome was below trend many auctions had competitive bidding with results over reserve.
"This highlights that homes are selling well when vendors' expectations are in line with the market," he says.
Sydney clearance rates fell from 64.9% to 59.4% this week, according to Australian Property Monitors (APM) figures.
Strathfield recorded the top weekend sale – a five-bedroom house on Barker Road sold through Georges Ellis &amp; Co – which respresented the third time in the past month that the suburb had the highest reported Saturday auction result. 
In the same week last year Sydney had a rate of 57% and Melbourne 55%.

Auction success rate eases but the Cordner family easily get their Greensborough goal

ASX-listed developer <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/stockland">Stockland</a>&nbsp;is continuing its push back into the new apartment market, filing plans for a prominent gateway site between Collingwood and East Melbourne.

The development giant, which moved back into the new apartment space when it announced Stanton Place in Sydney's Rosebery and have since filed plans for a 50-storey tower, are jumping into the off the plan Melbourne market.

They are hoping to create a mixed-use neighbourhood precinct for <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/79-81-victoria-parade-collingwood-vic-3066">79-81 Victoria Parade</a>, replacing an existing commercial building with a scheme by <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/architects/john-wardle-architects">Wardle</a>&nbsp;for 478 apartments,&nbsp;ground-floor retail, new public open spaces and a publicly accessible pedestrian laneway.

The design report identifies the public realm as a central driver of the proposal.

"Collingwood has limited access to high-quality parks and public open space, and the proposal delivers valuable new areas for respite, social interaction and fine-grain retail activity."

The development would deliver a diverse mix of housing, including studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments alongside townhouse-style residences. Two basement levels are proposed beneath the development, providing resident and retail parking as well as extensive bicycle facilities.

Wardle's design draws heavily on Collingwood's industrial character, using articulated building forms, brickwork and robust materials inspired by the suburb's warehouse and manufacturing heritage. The built form has been broken into a series of smaller volumes to better respond to the surrounding streetscape while extensive communal gardens, rooftop amenities and shared resident spaces are integrated throughout the project.

The planning documents describe the existing office building as offering little engagement with the public realm, with the redevelopment intended to create a more permeable and active neighbourhood destination.

"The proposed scheme presents a significant opportunity to deliver a vibrant retail plaza and a local neighbourhood hub serving both existing and future Collingwood residents."

The 79–81 Victoria Parade site occupies a strategic location about 1.5 kilometres east of Melbourne's CBD, at the threshold between Collingwood and East Melbourne. It is well served by tram services along Victoria Parade and sits within walking distance of St Vincent's Hospital, Fitzroy Gardens, the Fitzroy activity centre and a broad range of employment, retail and hospitality destinations.

Stockland plans new mixed-use neighbourhood precinct for Collingwood gateway site

An 1880s timber cottage that has survived Kangaroo Point's transformation from riverside suburb to high-density apartment precinct is set to become the centrepiece of <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/zephyr">Zephyr Group</a>'s proposed Banksia development.

Rather than see the locally heritage-listed Alpha Cottage as an obstacle to navigate, plans integrate the landmark home into a new 18-storey residential tower, giving one of the suburb's oldest surviving residences a new role as the project's communal hub.

The development application covers a 1,177 sqm amalgamated site at 127-133 Lambert Street and 30 Shafston Avenue, where Zephyr Group plans to deliver 64 apartments above three basement levels. Designed by <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/architects/joe-adsett-architects">Joe Adsett Architects</a>, the proposal carefully weaves the retained heritage cottage into a contemporary residential scheme, with the tower elevated above the historic building to preserve its presence within the Lambert Street streetscape.

Named after the native Australian Banksia flower, the project draws inspiration from its distinctive form through curved balconies, sculpted planter boxes and cascading subtropical landscaping that soften the building's profile.

As the design report explains: "The tower's identity is defined by its feature facade, drawing direct inspiration from the Banksia wildflower. The building departs from traditional rigidity through the use of elegant, GRC-moulded planter boxes that appear as if shaped by the breeze."

Plans propose 64 apartments, comprising 32 two-bedroom and 32 three-bedroom residences, across an 18-storey tower. Residents would have access to rooftop amenities including a swimming pool, spa, gym, sauna, private cinema, dining spaces and landscaped recreation areas, while more than half the site is dedicated to planting and open space.

The heritage component is the defining feature of the proposal. Constructed in the early 1880s and occupied from at least 1883, Alpha Cottage is recognised by Brisbane City Council as an important surviving example of Kangaroo Point's nineteenth-century residential development and as a representative transverse-gable timber cottage. Despite extensive redevelopment across the peninsula, the building has retained a high degree of its original form and internal fabric.

As part of the redevelopment, the cottage will be carefully relocated a short distance within its original allotment to facilitate construction before being returned to a prominent position along Lambert Street. Original verandah elements will be dismantled, catalogued and reinstated, while significant internal features, including timber flooring, wall linings, joinery, doors, windows and hardware, will be retained. Later additions, including the enclosed rear verandah, will be removed to better reveal the building's original form.

Once restored, Alpha Cottage will accommodate the building manager's office, mail room and parcel facilities, providing an active everyday use that supports its long-term conservation rather than preserving it as a static display. The heritage strategy also maintains landscaped space around the building, allowing it to remain visually distinct beneath the new tower.

The Heritage Impact Assessment concludes that "the proposal secures the ongoing occupation, maintenance and conservation of Alpha Cottage," finding the development would result in "no more than a minor impact on the cultural heritage significance" of the building while ensuring its long-term future.

Joe Adsett Architects have designed the tower to sit above the heritage building rather than overwhelm it, creating a clear visual separation between old and new. The development's flowing balconies, integrated planting and organic façade respond to Brisbane's subtropical climate while complementing the restored cottage below.

Banksia occupies a prominent corner in Kangaroo Point within walking distance of the Kangaroo Point Bridge, Brisbane River, ferry services, QUT, the CBD and the Woolloongabba precinct. The site also benefits from direct access to active transport infrastructure and sits within an area earmarked for continued higher-density residential growth.

Architectus has designed the tower, orientating the apartments to maximise views towards Sydney Harbour while introducing a sculpted façade intended to respond to light, wind and the surrounding skyline.

Architectus Principal Marko Damic said the design sought to create a tower that contributes to the public realm as much as the skyline.

"We wanted to design a tower that doesn't just sit in the skyline but actively participates and contributes to city life," Damic said.
