The enormity of delivering a true skyscraper in Australia's new development market is often overlooked.

It has taken the best part of a decade since plans for Chevron One were first unveiled, but the 52-storey tower is now complete, with residents collecting their keys and moving into what has become one of the Gold Coast's most recognisable new landmarks.

Rising 127 metres above Chevron Island, Chevron One stands almost twice as high as any other building on the island. Its scale places it alongside the trio of towers at Jewel, arguably the last truly significant addition to the central Gold Coast skyline when they were completed around six years ago.

Developer Bensons Property Group is behind the 52-storey tower, which has just shy of 250 apartments, along with an exhaustive list of resident amenity spread across what is the largest development site ever assembled on Chevron Island.

The tower has been the talk of the town for years, says Ray White Projects Gold Coast agent Caitlin Rosenboom, who is selling the remaining apartments.

"People have been watching Chevron One go up for years," Rosenboom says, adding that many prospective buyers have been surprised by the scale of the views once they step inside.

"It's only when they walk through a completed apartment that they truly understand the position of the building," Rosenboom says.

"The views are jaw-dropping. Whether you're looking east over the ocean, across Surfers Paradise, along the river systems or out to the hinterland, every level offers something different but equally impressive."

One of Chevron One's defining advantages is its location on the eastern side of Chevron Island on Stanhill Drive, a position which protects the views forever.

"There's only one row of houses between Chevron One and the water, and the height restrictions along the river means views from Chevron One can never be built out,"&nbsp;Rosenboom says.

While new apartment developments continue to emerge across the Gold Coast, Rosenboom says opportunities to secure a completed apartment with this level of outlook are becoming increasingly rare.

"The size of the site is something that would be incredibly difficult to replicate today," she says.

"That's allowed Chevron One to deliver the sort of amenity, open space and resident facilities that very few projects can offer. There are not many completed apartment buildings on the Gold Coast right now that can compete with the combination of scale, quality and amenity."

There's around 2,000 sqm of amenity solely for the use of residents of Chevron One. Club One features a uniquely shaped swimming pool that mirrors the footprint of the building itself, set within a extensively landscaped gardens. There's also an indoor pool and spa, a fully equipped gym with a Pilates room, a yoga garden, a bookable private dining area and lounge that can host up to 30 people, and a 24-hour concierge service.

As for the buyers, Rosenboom is fielding enquiry from everywhere: Sydneysiders and Melburnians looking at the new and off-the-plan market following the changes in the Federal Budget, as well as those looking to relocate, through to South East Queenslanders seeking either a permanent home or a weekender bolthole.

"The Gold Coast lifestyle continues to resonate with people relocating from the southern states, and when they see the views and the quality of what's been delivered at Chevron One, it becomes very easy for them to understand the appeal," Rosenboom says.

A diverse mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments remain available, with each offering "something a little different", be it the orientation and views, configuration, or level, to suit a wide variety of buyers.

A general rule of thumb in new apartment developments is that the penthouses get the rooftop.

It's a formula that's become commonplace across Australia's apartment market. Residents might have access to a pool, gym or barbecue facilities on a dedicated lower level, but the most desirable outdoor spaces are typically reserved for the highest-priced homes at the top of the building.

Sherpa Group has taken the opposite approach.

Repeat buyers are one of the strongest measures of confidence in any apartment development.

Keith Wilton had spent years living in a house in East Maitland before deciding it was time for a change. Apartment living had always been on his radar, but he was selective about what he wanted.

Filming stopped on Wednesday morning on the Brighton site of The Block, the Channel 9 renovation show.
The Block's executive producer Julian Cress advised the trades on the site will continue as long as they can, but the contestants left the site yesterday for their homes across Australia.
The contestants were told by The Block's host Scott Cam about the decision to halt production.
The contestants started production of the 2020 series in late February.
More than a third of the season had been shot.
Nine's production company spent $14.96 million on the 2,770 sqm site of the demolished former Andrina Private Nursing home just off Brighton's Golden Mile. 
It was bought from Nick Williams, son of horse trainer Lloyd Williams.
Williams had plans for 13 townhouses on the block.

The retired cricketer Shane Warne is officially seeking to secure another profitable property flip in bayside Melbourne at pre-Easter auction.
The legendary spinner has listed his Brighton home with a guide of $6.8 million to $7.4 million.

Award-winning seaside home in Brighton for sale

Catch Group co-founder Hezi Leibovich and his wife, Lina, spent $19.75 million in Brighton in a secret off-market deal.
However, the sale of the 2,600 sqm parcel of land on one of Brighton's "best streets", according to agents, did not break a price record for Brighton.
The record is still held by the late 7-Eleven co-founder Beverley Barlow's $22 million sale at 39 Seacombe Grove in 2015.

Former Feberal Government minister Peter Reith and wife Kerrie have bought off the plan in Melbourne's Brighton.
They've secured an apartment in the soon to be built Amano development on Well Street, slated for completion next year.
Reith has been commuting between apartments in St Kilda Road and Canberra, as well as Trenavin, their farm in Stonyford which was sold earlier this year for $700,000.
Amana, which means 'by hand' in Italian, has been designed by Rigney Scerri Architects.

There was a similar purchase in Elsternwick a few years ago where a former nursing home turned vacant block was purchased and old weatherboard homes were relocated on to the site for the contestants to renovate.
Speculation suggests they will be doing the same again.
No doubt spin king Shane Warne will take a sticky beak once the properties are finished.
He's been dipping in and out of the Brighton market for the last decades, sometimes <a href="/news/shane-warnes-6-million-brighton-flip-windfall">buying the same home twice</a>.
Rumours a few months ago were that Warne was <a href="/news/speculation-that-shane-warne-seeks-to-flip-his-brighton-home">set to flip his current Brighton home</a>, which might pave the way for a celebrity purchase.
It was no third year in a row for the rejuvenated St Kilda.
Two of St Kilda's most iconic buildings, The Gatwick and The Oslo Hotel have been the scene of the last two Block series, with The Oslo Hotel terraces set to go under the hammer in a few weeks.

Approval has been granted for Brighton’s first fossil fuel-free apartments, Slate House, which will consist of 14 residences, featuring two and three-bedroom homes across three levels.

Slate House is set to achieve a NatHERS rating of 7.8 by incorporating a fossil-fuel-free embedded network and utilising energy-efficient appliances, as well as running entirely carbon neutral in operation. 

The project will be delivered by Lucent, who are renowned for the sell-out success of Nightingale and Little Miller apartments in Brunswick East. When asked whether there was a strong buyer demand for NatHERS and Green Star rated homes, Lucent Managing Director, Panos Miltiadou explained that given the response from their previous projects, buyers today held both sustainability and community in high regard.

Melbourne-based developer Lucent has received development approval from council to build Brighton’s first fossil free apartment project, due to launch next month.
Located on the corner of 7 Bleazby Avenue and 51 Male Street, the permit approves 14 apartments to be developed on the 1,392 square metre site.
The project, to be known as Slate House, will consist of eight two-bedroom and six three-bedroom residences, ranging from 90–200 square metres in size, across three levels.
Centred upon sustainable design principles, the project achieves a NatHERS rating of 7.8 – the highest of any residential project in the area.

Slate House follows on from the sell-out success of the developer’s Nightingale and Little Miller apartment projects in Brunswick East which are nearing completion.
