The new development, dubbed&nbsp;<a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/glenelg-residences-2462-2472-gold-coast-highway-mermaid-beach-qld-4218">Glenelg Residences</a>, has been designed by BDA Architecture and&nbsp;will have just under 100 apartments across an 11-storey building&nbsp;at 2462–2472 Gold Coast Highway, on the corner of Glenelg Avenue just under 300m from the future Mermaid Beach Light Rail stop.

The apartments, a mix of two- and three-bedrooms, will sit above a retail-focused ground plane and under extensive rooftop resident amenities.

BDA said in its planning submission that the project is intended to support the area’s transition toward higher-density, mixed-use living. “This project offers the opportunity to generate appropriate higher-intensity development within the future Light Rail corridor of <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developments/mermaid-beach-qld-4218">Mermaid Beach</a>,” the submission noted.

At ground level, Glenelg Residences will include eight retail tenancies designed to activate the street frontage, complemented by a basement bar offering an additional hospitality element. Above, residents will have access to a rooftop amenity deck featuring an infinity pool, hot and cold plunge spas, day beds, and barbecue facilities.

The architectural approach adopts a restrained material palette of brick, textured concrete, and integrated landscaping, with cantilevered concrete frames and cascading planting intended to soften the built form. BDA described the design as aiming to create “a memorable sculptural mid-rise mixed-use building” that responds to both its coastal setting and urban context.

East of Alice Spring, Mr Oldfield runs cattle across the jointly managed properties Andado Station, Horseshoe Bend and New Crown.
He owns an outback transport company, Tanami Transport, of which S Kidman and Co is client.
The South Australian pastoralist Tom Brinkworth owns more than 100 properties spread across more than 400,000 hectares 
Sterling Buntine owns Alroy Downs Station and Dalmore Downs, along with Lissadell, Bedford Downs and Lansdowne stations in the Kimberley in Western Australia.
Malcolm Harris and his family recently gained approval to apply for a freehold lease on WA's Gogo Station at Fitzroy Crossing.

The West Australian mining magnate Gina Rinehart and Chinese Real Estate company Shanghai Cred have entered into an agreement to make a takeover offer for the nation’s largest private land hold S Kidman and Co.
The joint venture company Australian Outback Beef Pty Ltd (AOB) will be owned 67 percent by Mrs Rinehart’s company Hancock Prospecting and 33 percent by Shanghai Cred.
Hancock Prospecting chairwoman Gina Rinehart told News Ltd she was pleased to have the opportunity to invest further in Australia’s cattle holdings through the acquisition of the Kidman stations and was looking forward to working with the Kidman management and staff to grow and develop the operations.
Pastoralist Sir Sidney Kidman built up one of the biggest private landholdings in Australia.
“Kidman is an iconic cattle business established more than a century ago by Sir Sidney Kidman. It is an operation founded on hard work and perseverance by an outstanding Australian, and is an important part of Australia’s pioneering and entrepreneurial history,” Mrs Rinehart said.
Austalia’s biggest meat producers, S Kidman &amp; Co Ltd, has pastoral leases covering a 101,000sqkm across four states and territories.
The iconic Kidman landholding went on sale almost 18 months ago.
The sale is conditional of completion of the divestment of the Anna Creek station and the Peake by Kidman to other Australian grazing interests.
The proceeds from the sale of Anna Creek and the Peake will be paid to Kidman and retained in the company for the benefit of AOB, effectively reducing the “net price” being paid by AOB for the remaining Kidman portfolio to approximately $365 million.
