The enormity of delivering a true skyscraper in Australia's new development market is often overlooked.

It has taken the best part of a decade since plans for Chevron One were first unveiled, but the 41-storey tower is now complete, with residents collecting their keys and moving into what has become one of the Gold Coast's most recognisable new landmarks.

Rising 127 metres above Chevron Island, Chevron One stands almost twice as high as any other building on the island. Its scale places it alongside the trio of towers at Jewel, arguably the last truly significant addition to the central Gold Coast skyline when they were completed around six years ago.

While there are several developments underway around a similar height to Chevron One, they are more concentrated within clusters of the highest towers in the city. The tower has been the talk of the town for years, says Ray White Projects Gold Coast agent Caitlin Rosenboom, who is selling the remaining apartments.

"People have been watching Chevron One go up for years," Rosenboom says, adding that many prospective buyers have been surprised by the scale of the views once they step inside.

The level of residential listings nationwide fell in most capital cities across June except Brisbane and Perth, according to SQM Research.
Listings in Brisbane and Perth rose month on month and national sales listings are up 2.5 percent compared to June 2015.  
Canberra recorded the largest decline for June with property listings falling 5.6 percent, according to SQM Research managing director Louis Christopher.

He said total online national residential listings fell during June 2016 from 350,333 to 345,058, decreasing 1.5 percent from May 2016.
“This is a fairly normal result for winter where, historically, property listings fall during the colder months," he said.
"The one abnormality is Sydney, where we’re recording a massive year on year rise of 30 percent.
"If anything that just shows how frenzied the Sydney market was this time last year. However, Sydney is not oversupplied with listings right now. Rather, it is returning to more normal long term averages.
 
"Year-on-year results reveal Melbourne median asking prices have risen 15.6 percent for houses and 6.4 percent for units compared to this time last year.
"Brisbane has also experienced yearly changes, with median asking prices for houses climbing 5.8 percent, compared to just 0.8 percent for units.
Meanwhile, median asking prices continue to fall in both Darwin and Perth."

Sydney residential sale listings returning to normal long term averages: SQM

The Bondi hoarders' property - withdrawn from sheriff's auction last week - is set to be rescheduled despite the family turning up to court with wads of hundred-dollar notes.
The family managed to stave off the forced auction of their home on Thursday night.
Then on Friday Mary Bobolas and her adult daughters Elena and Liana arrived in court carrying several bags each, desirious of paying their debt owed to Waverley Council.
They produced bags of $100 notes as a “show of good will that funds were available”.
But magistrate Joanne Keogh said the family had failed to demonstrate sufficient means to pay the money owed to the council.
There remains the prospect the family will lodge an appeal.
A $2 million sale had been anticipated due to its prime location and 550 sqm block size.
The <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-bondi-118903099" target="_blank">19 Boonara Avenue</a> offering was listed under instructions of the NSW Sheriff's Office.
It was the third time that the marketing failed to end in any under the hammer sale.
There was an unexpected delay last month.
Previously the owner Mary Bobolas dodged the sale of the property February last year by coming up with $180,000 to pay Waverley Council's cleaning and legal bills just hours before that scheduled auction.
The drawn out process has seen buyer interest wane as when it was first listed in 2015, 63 contracts had been handed out. Last month it was in the 30s. This time interest was down to around the expected 10 attendees.
They will need to pay a further $160,000 to meet the newest set of cleaning and legal bills.
The council's solicitors wrote to the Bobolas family in November asking for settlement of the outstanding money to avoid the sale but they received no funds.
Raine &amp; Horne agent Ric Serrao was commissioned by the NSW Sheriff's Office to sell the property so that clean-up costs can be recovered on behalf of the council.
Rubbish flowed out of the door and onto the property frontage on the latest listing images despite a 10 truck clear up in July last year.
There were no inspections possible for prospective buyers.
Ric Serrao couldn't even access the property so there were no internal photos or floor plan available.

There's a community town hall and an old school house which is surrounded by 16 hectares of groomed parkland.

The tourist ghost town Joadja Creek, 28 kilometres from Bowral in the Southern Highlands sold in 2011.
The mining town was abandoned in 1904 after shale-oil deposits dwindled, alongside competition from US imports.
It was first sold as grazing land over 100 years ago by Raine &amp; Horne Sydney for £4400.
The village had been home to up to 1300 miners, mostly Scottish, and their families.
It consisted of mostly industrial ruins and workers' cottages, although an 1870s manager's homestead had been restored.

Monogoribly township under offer

The latest discounted property of the week from SQM Research is a townhouse in the middle of Launceston, Tasmania with a price reduction of $44,000 - supposedly just for June.
SQM research managing director Louis Christopher said the property, 3/28 Abbot St, East Launceston, Tasmania, first came onto the market back in April this year with an original asking price just shy of $330,000.  
"The vendor has now slashed this price by $44,000 reducing the property to just $285,000, supposedly just for the month of June (clearly a sellers bluff)," he said.
"The townhouse is located smack bang in the middle of Launceston, with two generous sized bedrooms, one bathroom, balcony and courtyard. The property is solid brick rendered with a brand new kitchen, and double glazed windows (to help minimise those cosmopolitan noises). 
"The listing states that the townhouse is conveniently located adjacent to a bus stop, with plenty of public transport routes nearby, and Launceston airport just a short 20 minute drive away. Launceston is located approximately 200km outside of Tasmania's capital city Hobart.
"According to 12 month actuals to March - Hobart is currently outperforming this forecast with property prices rising at 7.6 percent.
"Notably, East Launceston recorded a vacancy rate of 1.9 percent in April 2016, this reflects a reasonably tight residential market, however, and it is slightly higher than the capital city average of 0.9 percent for Hobart."

May residential prices up, listings down: SQM

The Ultra Tune owner Sean Buckley has listed his redundant Gold Coast penthouse for June 15 auction.
<a href="https://www.coastal.com.au/2954348/" target="_blank">The sprawling 573 sqm northern unfurnished penthouse</a> in Aria cost Buckley $2.7 million when bought late last year from the Smith family of Balwyn.
Set over two levels, the Sunland-built apartment has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a private rooftop terrace with a 15 metre lap pool and a 10 person sauna.
Aria's southern penthouse was once owned by Athena Starwoman and husband John Demartini.
Buckley is the executive chairman of Ultra Tune which is an Australian car service franchise with over 270 outlets across Australia. 
He also owns Ultra Thoroughbreds, a primary and pre-training equestrian stud which has had huge success, particularly with Shamus Award who won the Cox Plate in 2013 and the Australian Guineas in 2014.
The marketing of the apartment by listing agent Tolemy Stevens of Harcourts Coastal suggests that the apartment was acquired as part of a large commercial deal and was surplus to requirements.
