<p>From outside, those projecting forms contribute to the tower’s faceted profile. Strong horizontal and vertical elements establish its proportions, while the changing position of the sun alters the light, shadow and reflection across the façade throughout the day.</p>

Feedback from the display suite has centred on the warmth and restraint of the interiors, with buyers commenting that the residences feel like homes rather than conventional coastal apartments.</p>

<p>A limited collection of half-floor penthouses occupies the upper levels, increasing the scale of the living spaces and adding private balconies and elevated finishes. From this position, the outlook extends between the ocean and hinterland.</p>

<p>Outside the private residences, The Eveleigh separates its shared spaces between the podium and rooftop. Hirsch &amp; Faigen also identified the street as an emerging premium residential address, with enough separation from Broadbeach's busier destinations to retain a quieter environment at home.</p>

<p>The Eveleigh is now under construction by Maxcon, with completion forecast for mid-2028. Three-bedroom residences are currently available from $2.87 million.</p>

The Eveleigh brings house-like apartments to Broadbeach

<p>A long-stalled Campbelltown development site is back in play, with new plans for 139 apartments set to supersede a mixed-use scheme approved almost a decade ago but never built.</p>

<p>The new proposal for 28 Cordeaux Street would deliver 116 market and 23 affordable apartments in a part 14-storey building, bringing a substantial new project into a Campbelltown market where new apartment supply remains limited.</p>

<p>Plans have been filed over the 3,092 sqm corner site at Moore-Oxley Street, around 600 metres from Campbelltown Railway Station and the city-centre retail core.</p>

<p>The site already carries a mixed-use residential approval dating to 2016. Doroch Architects has now been engaged on a larger replacement scheme, which is progressing as a State Significant Development Application following a Housing Delivery Authority determination in August 2025.</p>

<p>The apartment mix comprises 39 one-bedroom, 72 two-bedroom and 28 three-bedroom residences. Two-bedroom apartments make up just over half of the project, while three-bedroom homes account for 20 per cent.</p>

<p>Of the 139 apartments, 23 will be delivered as affordable housing under the in-fill affordable housing provisions of the Housing SEPP. The affordable component represents 15 per cent of the residential gross floor area and will be managed by a registered Community Housing Provider.</p>

<p>Doroch has sought to break the scale of the building into two distinct elements, with a masonry podium of around four storeys establishing the street edge before the residential tower steps back above.</p>

<p>The corner position has shaped that approach. Cordeaux Street faces toward the commercial and civic centre, while Moore-Oxley Street leads into the lower-scale residential neighbourhood to the south, and the design verification report describes the site as "bridging the commercial core to the north and established residential areas to the south."</p>

<p>The podium will be expressed predominantly in face brick, while the upper levels shift to brushed and grooved concrete cladding with darker metal detailing. Recessed sections, deep balcony edges and landscaping break down the upper form, with an approximately 11.8-metre setback to the northern boundary addressing the adjoining St Peters Anglican School.</p>

<p>A 60-apartment building nine storeys tall would be a rarity almost anywhere along this stretch of Moreton Bay, but that's exactly what's been lodged for a modest Deception Bay street better known for its single-storey weatherboard homes.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/sherlock-construction-homes">Sherlock Construction Homes</a> is seeking to push Deception Bay’s emerging medium-density housing profile higher, lodging plans for a nine-storey apartment building near the suburb’s shopping centre and foreshore.</p>

<p>Dubbed Grosvenor Apartments, the proposal at 14-20 Grosvenor Terrace would replace two detached homes with a new building designed by&nbsp;<a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/architects/mode">Mode Design</a>&nbsp;which would&nbsp;reach nearly 30 metres, well above the site’s mapped 21-metre building height.</p>

<p>The apartment mix is weighted toward larger homes, with 14 three-bedroom apartments, 31 two-bedroom apartments and 15 one-bedroom apartments. Six apartment types are spread across the floors, ranging from 66 sqm one-bedroom units through to three-bedroom apartments of 116 sqm, most with private balconies or terraces.</p>

<p>Levels one through seven follow a consistent layout of six to eight apartments per floor arranged around a central lift and stair core, with the top floor, level eight, trading one apartment for a landscaped community breakout space rather than repeating the standard layout below.</p>

<p>Ground floor is dedicated to arrival and services, with a lobby, mailroom and manager's office, alongside 91 car spaces.</p>

<p>Mode Design's brief describes a "serene coastal-inspired design blending soft curves, natural textures and light-filled spaces to reflect the relaxed Deception Bay lifestyle."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The material palette leans on white and grey render, timber-look aluminium screening and stacked-brick-look finishes, with hanging greenery and vine planting proposed across balcony edges and ground-level walls.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Balconies feature asymmetrical geometries intended to vary the building's rhythm rather than repeat a single module up the tower, while lush planting is concentrated over the entry and level one balconies to soften the building's base.</p>

<p>The design evolved following an April 2025 prelodgement meeting with council. At that stage, the project was conceived as a seven-storey building containing 45 apartments. The subsequently lodged scheme increases the development to nine storeys and 60 apartments while introducing one-bedroom residences to the mix.</p>

<p>Zone Planning argues the additional scale reflects the site's position within an area earmarked for increased residential intensity. The planning report points to the North Lakes-Redcliffe-Moreton Bay Rail corridor strategy, which identifies Deception Bay as a district-level activity centre and supports greater housing choice within urban neighbourhoods.</p>

<p>Market Square Deception Bay, Deception Bay Sports Centre, Deception Bay State School, public transport, community facilities and the Moreton Bay foreshore are all identified within approximately one kilometre of the site, while the property falls within a 400-metre walking catchment of Market Square.</p>

First Look: Sherlock Construction pitches apartments for low-rise Deception Bay

<p data-end="587" data-start="368">Queensland builder-developer MAYD has revealed the first look at its major North Kirra beachfront development, lodging amended plans that reduce the number of apartments and increase the proportion of larger residences.</p>

<p data-end="778" data-start="589">The project is planned across a substantial 4,742 sqm amalgamated site spanning seven lots at <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/2-6-pacific-parade-bilinga-qld-4225">2-6 Pacific Parade</a> and 27-33 Golden Four Drive in Bilin​ga, directly opposite Nor​th Kirra Beach.</p>

<p data-end="907" data-start="780"><a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/mayd-group">MAYD</a> secured the site for $32.5 million in 2025, in what was one of the Gold Coast's largest property transactions of the year.</p>

<p data-end="1052" data-start="909">The development will be delivered across two stages, with the first stage carrying an estimated gross realisation value of around $360 million.</p>

<p data-end="1311" data-start="1054">The latest amendments seek to reduce the overall apartment count and shift the project further toward the owner-occupier market, with larger residences designed for buyers wanting considerably more space than traditionally offered in a beachfront apartment.</p>

<p data-end="1451" data-start="1313">The residential mix will include townhomes, oversized two-bedroom apartments, substantial three-bedroom residences and four-bedroom homes.</p>

<p data-end="1676" data-start="1453">MAYD has appointed Cera Stribley to lead the architecture and interiors, with the Melbourne-based design practice drawing on the beachfront setting through a series of ocean-facing terraces and heavily landscaped balconies.</p>

<p data-end="1908" data-start="1678">Strong horizontal forms and curved balconies will define the exterior, with subtropical landscaping integrated throughout the building to soften the built form and increase the connection between the residences and the beachfront.</p>

<p data-end="2142" data-start="1910">The project will also include an extensive collection of resident wellness and lifestyle facilities, continuing the broader shift across the Gold Coast's luxury apartment market toward larger homes supported by resort-style amenity.</p>

<p data-end="2648" data-start="2310">"North Kirra presents one of the most compelling luxury residential opportunities currently emerging in Australia, combining absolute beachfront with the character and authenticity that buyers are increasingly seeking, and the same sense of tight-knit community that defined Burleigh and Currumbin perhaps 10 or 15 years ago," Mould said.</p>

<p data-end="2797" data-start="2650">"With Gold Coast Airport on its doorstep, it also offers a level of accessibility that broadens its appeal across almost every market demographic."</p>

<p data-end="2938" data-start="2799">The project comes as the southern Gold Coast continues to attract an increasing share of high-end apartment development and buyer activity.</p>

<p data-end="3216" data-start="2940">Kirra in particular has emerged as one of the region's more tightly held beachfront markets, with its relatively low-density character, established surf and hospitality scene and proximity to Gold Coast Airport differentiating it from the higher-density markets further north.</p>

<p data-end="3325" data-start="3218">Mould said those characteristics had informed the approach MAYD and Cera Stribley had taken to the project.</p>

<p data-end="3442" data-start="3327">"We've worked closely with Cera Stribley to create a vision that is deeply connected to its surroundings," he said.</p>

<p data-end="3662" data-start="3444">"Inspired by the coastline itself, the architecture has been shaped around space, privacy and resort-style living, creating a collection of homes that reflects the next generation of luxury on the southern Gold Coast."</p>

<p data-end="3818" data-start="3664">MOTIV Managing Director Carly Cottam, who has been appointed to market the project, said buyer attention had continued to move south along the Gold Coast.</p>

<p data-end="4076" data-start="3820">"Purchasers who may once have defaulted to Broadbeach, Main Beach or Surfers Paradise are increasingly recognising the value of a genuine beachfront location that offers lower density, strong amenity and a more established sense of community," Cottam said.</p>

<p data-end="4375" data-start="4078">"Kirra has a powerful combination of growing demand and genuine scarcity. Beachfront supply is inherently constrained, the area remains relatively low density, and buyers are increasingly placing a premium on locations that feel established, uncrowded and authentic rather than heavily developed."</p>

<p data-end="4503" data-start="4377">Cottam said the proximity to Gold Coast Airport was also proving increasingly important for interstate and second-home buyers.</p>

<p data-end="4741" data-start="4505">"Being minutes from Gold Coast Airport makes it particularly compelling for interstate buyers, frequent travellers and second-home purchasers who can access an authentic coastal lifestyle almost immediately after stepping off a flight."</p>

<p data-end="4910" data-start="4743">The acquisition takes MAYD's active development portfolio to more than $500 million, with the North Kirra project representing one of its largest undertakings to date.</p>

<p data-end="600" data-start="394">Castle Hill, the longtime hub of the Hills District, has been one of the major beneficiaries of Sydney's Metro expansion, with improved connectivity helping drive continued population growth, development and buyer demand across the Hills District.</p>

<p data-end="733" data-start="602">But despite that growth, the suburb has seen relatively few major new apartment projects brought to market over the past 18 months.</p>

<p data-end="970" data-start="735">Hills District developer Reve Group is looking to fill that gap with <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/nova-r-ve-castle-hill-2-garthowen-crescent-castle-hill-nsw-2154">Nova Rêve</a>, a major new mixed-use precinct on the corner of Garthowen Crescent and Old Castle Hill Road, a short walk from Castle Hill Metro Station and Castle Towers.</p>

<p data-end="2269" data-start="2047">"Grand Rêve was our first apartment project here and it showed us what this pocket of Castle Hill could be. Nova Rêve is the refinement of that idea: not just apartments, but a place the whole suburb can use," Kassis said.</p>

<p data-end="2430" data-start="2271">A key part of that approach is the hotel, which has been designed to operate as an amenity for the wider Castle Hill community rather than solely hotel guests.</p>

<p data-end="2606" data-start="2432">It will include restaurants, cafes, skybars and all-day dining, alongside conference and event facilities catering to business functions, community groups and private events.</p>

<p data-end="2724" data-start="2608">At ground level, more than 1,600 sqm of shops and cafes will open onto the surrounding streets and landscaped areas.</p>

<p data-end="2892" data-start="2726">Almost an acre of gardens designed by Land and Form Studios will run through the precinct, incorporating pathways, seating, barbecue areas and children's play spaces.</p>

<p data-end="3400" data-start="3216">The project's elevated position on one of Sydney's highest ridgelines will also provide apartments with outlooks toward the Sydney skyline, surrounding parkland and the Blue Mountains.</p>

Fitzroy North and Killara top subdued weekend auction results

<p>There are set to be nearly 3,700 capital city auctions this week, which is set to be the busiest week so far for auctions this year, according to CoreLogic.</p>
<p>The property data firm suggest the increased activity is traditionally seen over the week prior to Easter.</p>
<p>It's expected that the number of homes scheduled for auction this week will be higher than final figures from the pre-Easter week last year when a total of 3,517 auctions were held across the capital cities.</p>
<p>Apart from Tasmania, all capital cities have increased auction volume from last week.</p>
<p>Melbourne is expected to see a record number of auctions held this week, with 1,934 Melbourne homes scheduled to go under the hammer.</p>
<p>This is not only set to be the highest number of auctions this year, but the second busiest week on record ever for the city, with the possibility of surpassing the busiest week recorded (29th October 2017- 1,983 auctions) with volumes usually revising upward as final results are collected.</p>

Melbourne set for near record on busiest weekend auction of the year: CoreLogic

<p>Australia's top weekend auction sale was on the waterfront at Birchgrove on Sydney Harbour. </p>
<p>The<a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-birchgrove-126924754" target="_blank"> grand 1900s residence</a> (above and below), Clevedon fetched $7,225,000 when the four bedroom Wharf Road offering with art nouveau finishes, was auctioned through Belle Property.</p>
<p>There were four registered bidders.</p>
<p>It sits on a 692sqm parcel taking in views including Balls Head and the Harbour Bridge. There was a self-contained boatshed along with a mooring for a 30ft vessel, with an application lodged to increase permission to 50ft.</p>
<p>It last sold in 1997 at $2.025 million.</p>

It was an English-style family residence, renovated by Nicholas Day over a decade ago. It had sold at $3.6 million in 2006.</p>
<p>The nation's cheapest result was when $187,500 secured <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-townhouse-qld-mount+warren+park-126917262" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">a three bedroom townhouse at Mount Warren Park</a>, near Brisbane's Logan. It was a mortgagee offering which had sold at $251,000 in 2009.</p>
<p>CoreLogic auction analyst Kevin Brogan noted that Geelong, Victoria's second largest city, posted the strongest clearance rate for any market, of 83 percent.</p>

<p>Melbourne's clearance rates have been tracking below 70 per cent across for five consecutive week, as volumes across the city have been consistently higher.</p>

<p>Melbourne's weekend results included the history-making yachtsman Jesse Martin whose <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-emerald-126999874" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Dandenong Ranges family home</a> sold post-auction.</p>
<p>Martin, who became the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe solo in 1999, expected $1.2 million to $1.32 million for the Emerald home.</p>
<p>But the modern main residence that incorporates the site’s original two bedroom 1800s cottage on the 4024 square metre property fetched $1.15 million, the Herald Sun noted. </p>
<p>One year ago there were 1,685 Melbourne auctions held, with a notably higher clearance rate (78.4 per cent). The Inner region of Melbourne had the highest number of auctions this week (304), with a preliminary clearance rate of 67.3 per cent.</p>
<p>The strongest Melbourne clearance rate was recorded across the North West region, where 74.4 per cent of the 182 auctions held sold. </p>
<p>Sydney’s clearance rates, which have tracked around the mid-high 50 per cent range over seven consecutive weeks, came in at 58.7 per cent across a total of 990 auctions held, increasing on last week’s final clearance rate of 56.2 per cent when 1,143 auctions were held.</p>
<p>Over the same week last year, 1,163 auctions were held across Sydney and a clearance rate of 73.7 per cent was recorded. Domain put the prior week's revised result at 52 percent.</p>
<p>Across the smaller markets, Canberra recorded the highest preliminary clearance rate this week, while Brisbane returned the lowest again.</p>
<p>In Canberra, 106 auctions were held this week, and of the 84 reported results, 66.7 per cent were successful. Last week, only 102 auctions were held and the clearance rate was a higher 71.6 per cent. This time last year, results were similar with 118 auctions held and a clearance rate of 60.8 per cent.</p>
<p>Canberra prices ranged up to <a href="https://www.propertyobserver.com.au/https://www.allhomes.com.au/ah/act/sale-residential/5-butler-place-campbell-canberra/1317459709911" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">$1.6 million at Campbell</a>.</p>
<p>There were 183 Brisbane homes taken to auction, with 131 results reported so far. The preliminary clearance rate for the city is 46.6 per cent, up from 42.8 per cent last week and higher than one year ago, when 43.5 per cent of the 206 properties taken to auction were successful. </p>
<p>Brisbane sales included <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-ascot-114528031" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">a $3.355 million newly built Queenslander in Ascot</a>. The block had sold at $1.3 million in 2014 before its construction.</p>
<p>The now demolished cottage featured in the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson movie, San Andreas, The Courier Mail noted.</p>
<p>A total of 163 Adelaide homes were taken to auction this week, returning a preliminary clearance rate of 65 per cent across 120 results, up from 59.1 per cent last week when 144 auctions were held across the city.</p>

<p>Perth’s clearance rate of 46.7 per cent across 62 auctions was up from the previous weekend, when 50 auctions were held and a clearance rate of 32.6 per cent was recorded. Over the same weekend last December, the clearance rate was 20 per cent from 76 auctions.</p>

Clearance rates sits below 70 percent in all mainland capitals

<p>This weekend 1,140 auctions are anticipated across Melbourne, while next weekend a mere 1,000 auctions are tipped, according to the REIV.</p>
<p>However, both weekends are set to be smashed on the pre-Derby Day weekend of 28/29 October when 1,610 auctions are scheduled. That level is very close to the 2015 record weekend.</p>
<p>On Derby Day, just days before the 2017 Melbourne Cup weekend, it will be the calm after the storm - in Melbourne, agents have just the 180 auctions.</p>
<p>This week, CoreLogic is tracking just over 2,300 auctions across the combined capital cities, which is similar to last week when 2,318 auctions were held, but lower than this time last year, when 2,443 homes were taken to auction. </p>
<p>Across the two largest auction markets, Sydney and Melbourne, volumes are similar this week when compared to last week.</p>
<p>Melbourne is expecting 1,122 auctions to be held this week, compared to 1,119 last week, while Sydney is set to see 850 homes go up for auction, up from 818 last week.</p>
<p>Over the same week last year, Melbourne held 1,182 auctions, while there were 913 auctions in Sydney. </p>
<p>Melbourne is host to the busiest individual suburbs for auctions, with 18 auctions in Reservoir, followed by Epping (17) and Glen Waverley (16).</p>
<p>Bentleigh East, Richmond and St Kilda each have 15 auctions scheduled this week, according to CoreLogic.</p>
<p>Looking at the smaller auction markets, volumes will fall slightly in some cities. Adelaide has 84 auctions scheduled this week, down from 107 last week, while Canberra is set to hold 58 auctions, compared to 78 last week. </p>
<p>There are 151 auctions scheduled in Brisbane this week, similar to the 153 held last week across the city.</p>

<p>There were 2,318 homes taken to auction last week, similar to this time last year (2,290), while over the previous week, just 969 auctions were held due to the public holiday long weekend in most states, along with the AFL and NRL Grand Finals. </p>

<p>Clearance rates across Melbourne and Sydney fell week-on-week, with Sydney recording a clearance rate of 61.3% across 818 auctions, down from 64.9% across 607 auctions the previous week, and lower than this time last year, when 79.8% of the 816 auctions were successful.</p>
<p>The last time Sydney has seen a clearance rate this low was late 2015/early 2016.</p>
<p>Melbourne recorded a clearance rate of 70.3% across 1,119 auctions last week, down from 87.0% across just 122 auctions the previous week, and 78.4% across 1,114 over the same week last year. </p>
<p>While clearance rates fell across the capital cities week-on-week, auctions volumes increased across all of the capital cities. </p>
<p>Looking at the non-capital city regions, the Hunter region was the most successful in terms of clearance rates with 76.9% of the 33 auctions recording a successful result, closely followed by Geelong, where a clearance rate of 76.7% was recorded across 54 auctions. </p>

Melbourne racing toward 1600-plus Super Saturday as auction clearance rates softening

<p>Melbourne was the only capital city to record a weekend auction success rate in the 70s, continuing its sparkling performance.</p>
<p>Melbourne vendors sold 72 percent of their listings, while clearance rates across Sydney remained below 70 per cent for the eleventh consecutive week.</p>
<p>Sydney did retain its ranking as the second strongest auction capital, according to CoreLogic.</p>
<p>Melbourne hosted 1,111 auctions, similar to the same time last year when there was a stronger 78.4 per cent cleared.</p>
<p>An art-deco Hawthorn house sold pre-auction for $3.22 million making it Melbourne’s most expensive weekend auction offering.</p>
<p>Located at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-vic-hawthorn-126362366" target="_blank">9 Auburn Road</a> (pictured above), the 1938 home was marketed as one of “the most exquisite restorations to have hit the market.”</p>
<p>The property, last sold for $501,000 in 2001, features original features including black manganese bricks, terrazzo floors and curved textured walls.</p>
<p>The property was offered through the Whitefox agency. </p>
<p>Melbourne auction numbers will rise steadily over coming weekends until the Melbourne Cup long weekend. </p>
<p>A prize listing includes <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-hawthorn-126555554" target="_blank">an inner city vineyard on the Yarra River at Hawthorn</a> with $12 million to $13 million hopes through Scott Patterson at Kay &amp; Burton for November 1 auction.</p>
<p>The vineyard, just four kilometres from the Melbourne CBD, is the home of Coppin Grove Wines, a boutique family vineyard established in 1998, comprising 1000 Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Nebbiolo vines.</p>
<p>The vineyard, the work of Michael Cohn and his wife Ann, supplies its signature Coppin Grove Sparkling to George Calombaris’s Hellenic Republic restaurants. </p>
<p>The Cohns completed a viticultural course at the University of Melbourne’s nearby Burnley Horticultural College.</p>
<p>Sydney had the nation's top weekend sale when a four bedroom Strathfield house sold for $5.1 million.</p>
<p>Located at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-strathfield-126313986">7 Torrington Road</a>, the two level brick house on 858 sqm is situated on Strathfield’s so-called Golden Mile.</p>
<p>Last sold in 1998 for $831,000, the property was offered through Strathfield Partners agents Vanessa Kim and Sunny Nguyen.</p>
<p>It was a tie for the nation's cheapest - between Brisbane and Melbourne. </p>
<p>A one bedroom Mentone apartment sold for $275,000 making it Melbourne’s cheapest weekend auction sale.</p>
<p>Located at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-apartment-vic-mentone-126349266" target="_blank">10/56 Milan Street</a>, the property was marketed as a “shrewd investment opportunity, fantastic flip or perfect first-step on the property ladder.”</p>
<p>Built in 1970, the Regency Gardens offering last sold in 1987 for $52,200.</p>
<p>A two bedroom house at Kallangur sold for $275,000 making it Brisbane’s cheapest weekend auction sale.</p>
<p>Located at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-qld-kallangur-126346738" target="_blank">45 Boardman Street</a>, the 607 sqm property with unrenovated older-style lowset brick home last sold in 2006 for $231,000.</p>
<p>The nation's preliminary auction volumes bounced higher after last week’s long weekend, according to CoreLogic’s latest report.</p>
<p>Auction activity across the combined capital cities increased after last week’s grand finals, school holidays and public holiday slowdown.</p>
<p>Around 2,286 homes were taken to auction, returning a preliminary national auction clearance rate of 68.1 per cent.</p>
<p>The national preliminary clearance was up from the 66.3 per cent of the long weekend. But it was lower than one year ago, when there was a 76.4 per cent clearance rate on similar volume.</p>
<p>Sydney’s preliminary clearance rate was 67.2 per cent across 591 auction results, according to Coreogic.</p>
<p>There were a total of 800 auctions held across Sydney.</p>
<p>Domain reported two Sydney regions that have typically led the charge at auctions – the northern beaches and the inner west – took an uncharacteristic downturns.</p>
<p>The inner west sat at 69.6 per cent while the northern beaches was well down on recent results with 67.4 per cent.</p>
<p>There were 149 Brisbane homes taken to auction on the weekend recording a preliminary auction clearance rate of 49.5 per cent, unchanged from final results last week.</p>
<p>The Brisbane result sat slightly lower than one year ago, when 53.5 per cent of the 157 properties taken to auction were successful.</p>
<p>A five bedroom house at Chapel Hill sold for $1.95 million making it Brisbane’s most expensive weekend auction sale.</p>
<p>Located at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-qld-chapel+hill-126156922" target="_blank">68 Tristania Road</a>, the 2003 sqm property was marketed as “reminiscent of a charming country lane.”</p>
<p>It was built in 2013 after the block cost $1.55 million in 2011.</p>
<p>A total of 108 Adelaide homes were taken to auction, with a preliminary clearance rate of 65.3 per cent, down from 71.1 per cent last week when 40 auctions were held across the city.</p>
<p>It was lower than one year ago when 98 auctions were held and 75.3 per cent cleared.</p>
<p>A Norwood property sold for $2.44 million making it Adelaide’s most expensive weekend auction sale.</p>
<p>Located at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-sa-norwood-126386946" target="_blank">25 William Street</a>, the 1560 sqm property has five one bedroom units.</p>
<p>It was marketed as an opportunity to develop a home or redevelop through Harris Real Estate agents Nick Baranikow and Kathryn Roberts.</p>
<p>There were 33 Perth auctions this week, with a preliminary clearance rate of 60 per cent.</p>
<p>Last week, 70 per cent of the 13 auctions held were successful.</p>
<p>Canberra’s preliminary auction clearance rate of 62.7 per cent this week is lower than last week, when the final auction clearance rate was 75.7 per cent and also lower than the 85 per cent recorded last year.</p>
<p>Canberra's sales ranged between a three bedroom Kaleen apartment for $385,000 at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-act-kaleen-126408446" target="_blank">3/112 Baldwin Drive</a>, and a Crace house sold for $1.157 million.</p>
<p>Located at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-act-crace-126349522" target="_blank">30 Ivory Street</a>, the house on the 555 sqm property features four bedrooms and three designer bathrooms.</p>

Hawthorn art deco tops weekend auction results

<p>It's a new twist on the saying charity begins at home since increasingly the first home buyer auctions I attend on any given Saturday see young buyers there with the folks.</p>
<p>As their children endeavour to step onto the Sydney property ladder, the parents aren't turning up to just provide emotional support at these entry level auctions.</p>
<p>More often than not they have come along with the deposit cheque.</p>
<p>The bank of mum and dad is growing in importance - and will continue to do so.</p>
<p>For most recipients it will rank as their biggest financial windfall in life, that is aside from an inheritance many decades down the track. </p>
<p>Australian data on the emergence is lacking, but there's some interesting data from the UK where a Legal &amp; General report suggested parents are predicted to lend more than £6.5bn this year to help their children get on the property ladder.</p>
<p>Millennials are the biggest recipients, with around 80 percent of the £30,000 typical handout going to people under 30 in what they calculated amounted to around 25% of UK property transactions.</p>
<p>There's also data suggesting almost a third of second steppers rely on financial help from family to move up the property ladder, according to Lloyds Bank research.</p>
<p>“The intergenerational inequality that creates the demand for parental funding continues to widen – younger people today don’t have the same opportunities that the baby boomers," according to the report by Legal &amp; General.</p>
<p>Intergenerational inequality is overreach, but Generation Y have been accruing more debt at an earlier age than any of their predecessors.</p>
<p>With 40% of 18- to 35-year-olds having a <span class="gmail-il">study</span>-related HECS debt, this generation are already on the back foot before they begin their careers.</p>
<p>And the casualisation of our increasingly fleeting workplaces means younger people are mostly on smaller or less permanent incomes too.</p>
<p>Finding real banks to borrow from is accordingly harder, hence the role of soft target parents parents from middle-class and wealthy families or the grandparents. </p>

<p>In most UK cases the funds are given as a gift (56%) or as an interest free loan (21%).  </p>

<p>It is arguably better the funds come from families rather than government, and this largess overtime is going to come a bigger part of the solution to the problems of Sydney housing affordability. </p>
<p>It is already as researchers from RMIT and Curtin University for the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) found that 25 to 45-year-olds who received a cash gift from baby boomer parents had home ownership rates 15 percentage points higher than their peers.</p>
<p>But I worry the generosity puts the parents at risk in their old age.</p>
<p>They might be giving away their chance of a stress free retirement.</p>
<p>Treasury secretary John Fraser noted last year the bank of mum of dad was "becoming more and more prevalent." </p>
<p>"It has impacts on superannuation," Mr Fraser warned.</p>

<p>The winter season and record June listings are impacting the Sydney auction market according to Domain's Andrew Wilson.</p>
<p>He said nearly 750 homes are set to go under the hammer this Saturday which although lower than last weekend’s 787 auctions it will be significantly higher than the 631 listed over the same weekend last year.</p>
<p>"Sydney’s strong inner west market will again host the most number of regional auctions this weekend with 130 listed," he said.</p>
<p>"The next highest is the south with 96 closely followed by the upper north shore 95, the city and east 88, the lower north 74, the west 54, the northern beaches  51, the south west 50, the north west 43, Canterbury Bankstown 35, the central coast 13 and the Blue Mountains with 2 auctions scheduled on Saturday.</p>
<p>"Mosman and Ashfield are the most popular suburbs in Sydney this weekend with 11 auctions each followed by St Ives and Earlwood each with 10, Epping , Cremorne and Castle Hill each with 9 and Marrickville and Maroubra with 8 auctions each listed on Saturday."</p>
