The enormity of delivering a true skyscraper in Australia's new development market is often overlooked.

It has taken the best part of a decade since plans for Chevron One were first unveiled, but the 52-storey tower is now complete, with residents collecting their keys and moving into what has become one of the Gold Coast's most recognisable new landmarks.

Rising 127 metres above Chevron Island, Chevron One stands almost twice as high as any other building on the island. Its scale places it alongside the trio of towers at Jewel, arguably the last truly significant addition to the central Gold Coast skyline when they were completed around six years ago.

While there are several developments underway around a similar height to Chevron One, they are more concentrated within clusters of the highest towers in the city. Developer Bensons Property Group is behind the 52-storey tower, which has just shy of 250 apartments, along with an exhaustive list of resident amenity spread across what is the largest development site ever assembled on Chevron Island.

The tower has been the talk of the town for years, says Ray White Projects Gold Coast agent Caitlin Rosenboom, who is selling the remaining apartments.

"People have been watching Chevron One go up for years," Rosenboom says, adding that many prospective buyers have been surprised by the scale of the views once they step inside.

"It's only when they walk through a completed apartment that they truly understand the position of the building," Rosenboom says.

"The size of the site is something that would be incredibly difficult to replicate today," she says.

"That's allowed Chevron One to deliver the sort of amenity, open space and resident facilities that very few projects can offer. There are not many completed apartment buildings on the Gold Coast right now that can compete with the combination of scale, quality and amenity."

There's around 2,000 sqm of amenity solely for the use of residents of Chevron One. “There was also very little movement in the two sub-series with detached house sales ticking down by 0.1 percent in February and the sales of ‘multi-units’ growing by 1.0 percent," he said.
“The profiles for HIA detached house sales and ABS detached house building approvals are very similar. In the case of detached house sales, over the three months to February this year the volume fell by 2.2 percent to a level 5.2 percent lower than achieved over the three months to February last year.
“The updates that we are receiving for these two key leading indicators of new home building activity are consistent with a modest reduction in national new detached house commencements in 2016/17.
"We are forecasting a decline of 2 percent in detached house commencements in Australia in 2016/17 following a similar-sized fall of 1 percent in 2015/16.
“As with all aspects of the current housing cycle there are large differences in conditions for detached housing between states and territories. HIA’s detached house sales series for the five mainland states has been consistently highlighting this point for some years now.
“In 2017 we expect the profile for leading indicators such as detached house sales to slowly improve for Western Australia and South Australia. At the same time the volume of detached house sales on the eastern seaboard is expected to trend lower.”

Detached house sales increased in two out of five mainland states in February 2017 - Western Australia and Victoria. Detached house sales in WA increased by 11.3 per cent in February 2017 following a rise of 12.1 per cent in January. Note that these rates of growth are exaggerated by the extremely low base for detached house sales. Detached house sales in Victoria posted a monthly gain of 5.1 per cent in February. Elsewhere for the mainland states, in February detached house sales fell by 12.6 per cent in New South Wales and were down by 5.7 per cent in Queensland and 0.2 per cent in South Australia.

Victoria's detached house sales up in February: HIA

The Blue Mountains home of the late astrologer Richard Sterling has been snappily sold for a Katoomba residential record.
Some $1.65 million was paid for his clifftop Katoomba home at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-nsw-katoomba-124632274" target="_blank">7 Cliff Drive</a>, ahead of its scheduled March auction and well below the average 360 days on market.
The former Australia Women's Weekly columnist paid $16,000 for the home overlooking the Jamison Valley some 49 years ago.
It set a Katoomba record as the highest non-acreage residential sale in the suburb when sold to eastern suburbs' based spiritual medium and energetic healer Dalia Isles.
Isles has pledged to maintain Sterling's zodiac garden, a landscaped hillside with pathways between terraced flower beds dedicated to the 12 star signs.
"I want Richard's legacy to continue," Isles said.
"This is my wish."
"This home and fabulous setting overlooking an enormous valley were exactly what I'd visualised just weeks before I found it."
"The property has the perfect energy for my work."
It was ofen featured on the popular gardening show Burke's Backyard.
Set on 1,277 sqm, the two storey property has five bedrooms.
It sold through Reece Coleman of Stone Double Bay in conjunction with Kim Martin of Belle Property Leura who had $1.5 million to $1.65 million price guidance.
Coleman secured the listing through a referral from a real estate agent in Tampa, Florida.
Tampa realtor Amanda Heese, also a member of prestige group Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, discovered her godmother Joy Sterling was planning to sell the home, so she contacted Coleman, who is par of the network linking over 500 top independent residential agencies across 60 countries. 
“This sale must have been written in the stars,” said Coleman.
“Dalia told us the spirits had led her to the property.”

It was marketed with a price guide of $4 million plus.

1920s Toorak house sold for $5.5 million

Mosman, the stylish Lower North Shore Sydney suburb, clocked a billion dollars in gross sales over the 12 months to September 2016, more than any other across the country.
The gross value of sales in Mosman was $1,047,292,200, according to CoreLogic’s Best of the Best 2016 report.
The median value of houses in the suburb is $3,564,639.
Brighton, an affluent beachside suburb of Melbourne, was a distant second with gross sales of nearly $857 million for the same period.
Among the recently sold houses near the median value, was a four-bedroom house at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-nsw-mosman-123823394" target="_blank">8A Bickell Road, Mosman, NSW 2088</a> (above) that traded for $3.3 million. 
The property was sold through McGrath.
This sleek architectural home with views over Quakers Hat Bay last traded for $165,000 in 1979, meaning the house has appreciated exactly 20 times that price in the last 37 years. 
There were more than 300 sales in Mosman during the period, with the highest being a six-bedroom period home — built in 1910 — for $15.5 million, according to RP Data.
The $15.5 million Federation Queen Anne Style 1910 family estate at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-nsw-mosman-123885122" target="_blank">30 Bradleys Head Road, Mosman</a> (below) is set on 2,244 sqm. 
The house previously sold for $7,150,000 in 2001. The deal was brokered by McGrath.

Another high-profile deal of around $14.5 million that was featured in Property Observer recently relating to the sale by former Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch head of fixed income Neale Muston.
Set overlooking Chowder Bay, the Mosman house (below) was bought by a Chinese-origin buyer with residency.
It was sold on its second time marketing campaign this year. And in 2015 it was listed with $17 million hopes.
The architecturally designed Morella Road four-bedroom home features minimalistic styling. The sale affirms that the Chinese buyers are attracted to the “prestige” of Clifton Gardens.
It was sold by McGrath agents Michael Coombs and John Melville with a price guide of $14.5 million to $15.5 million.
The property last traded for $6.15 million in 2008 when bought by Muston who is now a director of Excalibur Trading, a private capital fund specialising in the global futures markets.
