BDA said in its planning submission that the project is intended to support the area’s transition toward higher-density, mixed-use living. “This project offers the opportunity to generate appropriate higher-intensity development within the future Light Rail corridor of <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developments/mermaid-beach-qld-4218">Mermaid Beach</a>,” the submission noted.

At ground level, Glenelg Residences will include eight retail tenancies designed to activate the street frontage, complemented by a basement bar offering an additional hospitality element. Freshwater's Harbord Beach Hotel sells for first time in over four decades

The Southern Railway Hotel in Goulburn has sold for $3.6 million to the same syndicate that recently bought the nearby Empire Hotel.
There two recent transactions account for a third of the six pubs in Goulburn which has a population of nearly 30,000.
The Southern Railway Hotel at <a href="https://www.realcommercial.com.au/sold/property-southern-railway-hotel-188-sloane-street-goulburn-nsw-2580-503355490" target="_blank">118 Sloane Street</a>, across the road from Goulburn train station, was established in 1872 as Clifford's Hotel and was renamed the Railway Hotel in 1876.
It later was known as the Great Southern Railway Hotel before becoming the Coolavin Hotel which is still etched on the top of the building's facade.
The hotel has an annual revenue of $2.37 million from its 18 accomodation rooms and downstairs bar and bistro.

Goulburn's Southern Railway Hotel sells for $3.6 million

Investment giant Moelis have entered in to an exclusivity agreement to buy The Beach Hotel in Byron Bay.
They're set to pay just over $100 million.
Moelis Australia, headed by the Sydney Swans chairman Andrew Pridham, will establish a single asset fund following the agreement, with investors to be given the opportunity to invest in the business.
If the transaction proceeds, the Beach Hotel will be managed by Moelis Australia Hotel Management, with the intention to retain the majority of the existing management operations and venue staff.
Moelis Australia Hotel Management CEO Dan Brady called The Beach Hotel Byron Bay an "iconic Australian establishment located on irreplaceable real estate."
"The acquisition of both freehold and operating interests will enable the required capital investment to further enhance what has made the hotel iconic - that is, a great community gathering place with a fun, sociable, friendly and safe hospitality offering delivered by an engage and passionate team of local hospitality professionals," Brady said.
Moelis already own several hotels, but The Beach Hotel Byron Bay will be operated separately. 
Moelis manages ASX listed Redcape Hotel Group and a single asset fund which owns the Grand Hotel in Rockdale.
It was just the second time The ‘Beachie’, as it is often referred to, was offered to the market since it was built in the 1990s by long-time local John 'Strop' Cornell.

It was offloaded by Cornell for $44 million. It last traded for $68.2 million just last year.
Located with over 100 metres frontage overlooking Byron’s Main Beach, the hotel spans a 4,585 sqm area and includes 25 newly-appointed luxury boutique hotel rooms and swimming pool.
It also features a large pub with extensive beer gardens, restaurant, function spaces and bottle shop.
JLL’s national director John Musca, boutique accommodation specialist Tom Gibson secured the sale and JLL's Queensland Vice-President Tom Gleeson secured the sale.

Moelis buys Byron Bay's The Beach Hotel for just over $100 million

Billionaire hotelier Justin Hemmes is further diversifying his portfolio.
Quiet in the local Sydney pub scene for a while, Hemmes has acquired the Allawah Hotel, one of Sydney's biggest gaming pubs near Hurstville.
The Australian reports he has paid around $34 million.
The hotel was first listed this time two years ago by the White family, with price expectations of more than $30 million.
The Feros family's JDA Hotels arm bought The Allawah Hotel in 2007 before selling it to the White's for $28 million.
Hemmes, who offloaded the <a href="/expert-insights/investing/justin-hemmes-sells-longtime-potts-point-retail-building-pre-auction">family's oldest asset in Potts Point earlier this year,</a> only has two other reported purchases in 2019.
Last month he quietly paid $4,872,500 for Rozelle's 3 Weeds pub.
He plans to open a new Totti's Italian restaurant in part of the property, according to The Australian.
In April he spent <a href="/news/billionaire-hotelier-justin-hemmes-buys-7-5-million-dover-heights-home-for-ex-partner">$7.5 million on a home in Dover Heights</a> for his ex-partner Kate Fowler.
Late last year Hemmes bought <a href="/news/hotelier-justin-hemmes-buys-office-block-redevelopment-next-to-his-ivy-nightclub">the office block next to his Ivy nightclub</a> with grand $1.5 billion redevelopment plans in the pipeline.

Justin Hemmes buys The Allawah Hotel in Sydney's south west

Manly’s Hotel Steyne has been sold.
Sydney's popular northern beaches pub has been bought by Iris Capital founder Sam Arnaout whose said he was "delighted" to have bought the pub.
"We intend to get a good feel for the asset and work with the locals to return their pub to its former glory," Mr Arnaout said.
It was listed for sale in February.
Arnaout said the Steyne positioned Iris Capital as a "genuine hospitality leader in this part of the world, and complements our macro coastal investment strategy in respect of similar landmark projects such as Newcastle's $700 million East End development".
The Steyne will boost Iris Capital's portfolio to 20 pubs across Sydney, including the Grand Hotel, Bondi Junction; Golden Tiger, Hurstville; Gaslight Inn, Darlinghurst and Peden's Hotel in Cessnock.
Iris Capital beat out other contenders by paying between $60 and $80 million for the iconic pub.
Nine Entertainment suggest it was $65 million.
HTL Property would not be drawn on the sale price, however described it as a “record price” in their official statement.

It was reduced to a final two.  
The landmark and multi-level beachfront hotel, spread across approximately 2000sqm, was offered by a consortium that comprised businessman John Singleton, hotelier Arthur Laundy and investors Robert Whyte and Mark Carnegie.
They paid about $30 million for the property in 2010, and have reportedly spent about $5 million.
Speaking to the Manly Daily, Mr Laundy said that he was happy with the outcome, both from a sale price perspective and the new buyer.
He said he had bought and sold more than 90 hotels in his almost 60 years as a publican, and Hotel Steyne would easily be in his top 10.

Public House Management Group (PHMG), CEO and founder Mitchell Waugh has sold the Woollahra Hotel and Bistro Moncur.
It has been bought by other members of the Waugh hotelier family headed by his brother Ashton.
An Australian Financial Review report that the Ryan family had paid $50 million was not the case 
Mitchell Waugh and wife Harriet will be stepping away from the Woollahra venues next month to focus on the rest of their portfolio.
Mitchell Waugh has been at the helm of Bistro Moncur and the Woollahra Hotel since the Waugh family purchased the venues in 2015.
Waugh will retain his position at the head of PHMG, owning in entirety the Royal Hotel Paddington, the Marrickville Ritz and The Toxteth.
The reopening of the Toxteth Hotel in Glebe last August followed an extensive six-month refurbishment of the interiors, exterior and an overhaul of the food and beverage offering.
Affectionately known as ‘The Tocky,’ the venue was purchased by PHMG for $22 million-dollars in February 2017 from Geoff Dixon and John Singleton’s Riversdale Group.
“Saying goodbye to Bistro Moncur is bitter-sweet for us, this was our first venture in the restaurant business, and we have thoroughly enjoyed growing in this space," Mitchell said.
"We took some great learnings from restaurant ambassadors Guillaume Brahimi and Damien Pignolet and there is a vision to increase the food offering of the group in the near future."
The Woollahra Hotel, one of the eastern suburbs' iconic celebratory watering holes, has been regarded as one the jewels of the Sydney pub market, having been associated over past decades with the likes of Alan Bond and even Abe Saffron.
It was a depressed market back in 2011 when the White family sold the hotel with rival interest reportedly came from Leon Fink and John Singleton.
On its purchase from the White family, its co-owner Damien Pignolet's services were briefly retained as executive chef at Bistro Moncur.
The rumoured $30 million acquisition in 2015 of The Woollahra by Public House Management Group - fronted by brothers Mitchell &amp; Ashton Waugh - followed other recent acquisitions.
PHMG is now focused on a complete renovation of The Royal Paddington, which Micthell says will involve a “complete overhaul.
Waugh sat down with the Wentworth Courier to reveal he had offloaded his share to two other investors who were part of the original purchase. 
“It feels like a new chapter for me.
"All family companies have problems when they go generational, they come to a point where different personalities, kids, might be the second or third generation, they have to go their own way so I’m very proud that we’ve been able to find a way to do it amicably and move on.
"But now I have my two daughters, who are very stubborn, very strong willed and I need to start thinking about them and establishing.”

Waugh family reshuffle with Woollahra Hotel ownership

CBRE Hotels has sold Travelodge Rockhampton to a private Chinese investment group.
The acquisition is the group's first foray into the Queensland hotel market.
The 4-star Rockhampton CBD hotel at 86 Victoria Parade features 74 rooms, as well as four conference and meeting rooms, two food and beverage venues, a swimming pool, gymnasium and parking.

The asset received multiple offers in the first week of the campaign.
CBRE Hotels said a stock shortage is helping to draw buyer attention to Queensland opportunities as investors are priced out of southern markets. Investors are seeking to capitalise on the Sunshine State’s strong tourism fundamentals and more transactions are expected to take place along the Queensland coast throughout 2019, they noted.

Travelodge in Rockhampton sold to private Chinese investment group

A syndicate of five former students from St Joseph's, Hunters Hill has bought the Lady Hampshire Hotel at Camperdown.
The buyers are cellar master, Greg Parker, Chris Traill, former chief concierge of Sydney’s Park Hyatt, Matthew Comensoli, Andrew Rigney and David Vaughan.
They were at the school in the early to mid 1990s.
“From boarding school to the boardroom this group of mates has enjoyed consistent results, with the Lady Hampshire the next chapter to be written in this success story," Parker told the pub website, pubtic.com.au.
The Parramatta Road hotel was sold by hotelier Paddy Coughlan.
Coughlan intends concentrating on his new beverage enterprise, Frank Strongs.
Coughlan retains the Lord Gladstone and Botany View Hotel.
Camperdown’s Hampshire Hotel was reopened in 2016 by Coughlan’s Bourke St group, then rebranded the Lady Hampshire to complement nearby sister venue the Lord Gladstone.
Manenti Quinlan’s Nick Butler brokered the introduction of The Lady to the former St Joseph’s students.

The Bellevue Hotel in Paddington has been bought by Royal Hotels, which is owned and operated by the highly regarded Malouf family.
Vendors for the sale of the Bellevue Hotel, WDS Hotels, had conducted an extensive renovation shortly following its acquisition of the popular hotel in 2014.
“We’ve enjoyed a successful four years of ownership at this great hotel, and following complete renovation and repositioning, formed a decision to focus on our existing portfolio which includes the Fortune of War Hotel, and in doing so to recycle the capital into another opportunity we’re considering,” commented WDS director Steven Speed to The Hotel Conversation.
Paddington, as a hospitality precinct, has proven popular with investors.
Andrew Jolliffe of HTL Property would not confirm the sale price paid.
The Pubtic website suggested around $6.5 million.
Built 1880, the elegant two-storey Bellevue sits on the corner of Hargrave Street and Windsor Lane.
It has gone through a succession of name owners, including John Singleton and Geoff Dixon’s Australian Pub Fund, with operations by Riversdale.
They subsequently sold it to Speed, and partner Peter Walker, in early 2014.
