Repeat buyers are one of the strongest measures of confidence in any apartment development.

Keith Wilton had spent years living in a house in East Maitland before deciding it was time for a change. Apartment living had always been on his radar, but he was selective about what he wanted.

“One of those things was a nice indoor open plan area, but also I wanted a nice outdoor open area that I could entertain on in summer or Christmases or birthdays,” he says.

Today, Keith says the move has completely changed how he experiences Newcastle.

For Aimee and Lyle Goodman, the journey started almost by chance.

"We were aware GWH was planning a development," Aimee says. "We made one phone call and things moved pretty quickly after that."

As busy business owners, they initially thought apartment living would simply reduce the maintenance that came with larger homes. Instead, it fundamentally changed how they spent time together.

"We actually catch up more as a family now," Aimee says.

Downsizer-focused apartment development Kooyongkoot in Hawthorn has been recognised at the 2026 Better Future Melbourne Design Awards, taking home Gold and Silver awards in two categories.

The judging submission also highlighted practical innovations throughout the building, including lift cores servicing only nine homes each, a central landscaped lightcourt designed to bring daylight and ventilation into the building, and fully enclosed private storage rooms with lighting, power and shelving to better accommodate residents transitioning from larger family homes.

The Gold Award for Interior Design recognised the project's focus on long-term liveability rather than display-home aesthetics.

According to the awards submission, the interiors were designed from the inside out, prioritising how homes would function over decades of daily use through generous proportions, practical storage, durable natural materials and flexible layouts.

The specification includes natural stone throughout, upgraded acoustic glazing, V-ZUG appliances and fully enclosed storage rooms, alongside an amenity offering focused on wellness, entertainment and everyday convenience.&nbsp;

The project's attention to detail has already resonated with buyers. Earlier this year, Kooyongkoot recorded one of Boroondara's highest apartment sales when an $8 million penthouse was purchased by a Melbourne CEO downsizing from a nearby family home.

The apartment price gap drawing Sydney buyers west

A luxury beachfront apartment at Rainbow Bay has more than doubled in value since it sold off the plan six years ago, setting a new local apartment record in the process.

The three-bedroom apartment in the Flow development on Petrie Street, the first of four new projects locally by Paul Gedoun's S&amp;S Projects, has sold for $7.4 million, after originally selling for $3.27 million when the project launched in 2020.

The seventh-floor apartment, comprising 187 sqm of internal living space and a 54 sqm balcony overlooking Froggies Beach and Snapper Rocks, was purchased by a local family.

The transaction was negotiated by Pezet Matheson director Kerry Pezet and equates to more than $30,000 per sqm.

Pezet said the sale reflected the limited opportunities to buy into the boutique beachfront development.

"The sale highlights the rarity of opportunities within the boutique beachfront development, where residences seldom become available," Pezet said.

"Flow is one of the Gold Coast's most tightly held buildings. Buyers from our database move quickly when residences become available, and achieving an off-market sale at $7.4 million demonstrates the depth of demand for property of this calibre."

The HiLife Health and Beauty boss Peter Nicholas, and his partner Belinda Rudd are seeking $10 million in the expressions of interest campaign for their Darling Point apartment.
They paid $8.25 million in 2014 for the apartment that consists of more than 400sq m over one level.
It was bought from Sydney FC chairman Scott Barlow.
The apartment has four bedrooms, a home office, home gym, cinema and a waterfront terrace.

The couple had Luigi Rosselli redesign the home on Eastbourne Road which sits in Will Danger gardens.
In 2008 Stephanie moved from fashion to food, and her food and entertaining blog 'The Hostess', where she shares her favourite recipes and entertaining tips.
Her first book, At Home With The Hostess, is being published in June.

Dawes Point topped the apartments list.
Point Piper was excluded from calculations as it did not see the sale of 10 or more houses, but it did rank third with apartments.
Darling Point house sales included a four bedroom at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-nsw-darling+point-124922942" target="_blank">14 Thornton Street</a> that fetched $7.06 million.

Darling Point had highest median value in CoreLogic's best list in 2017

Prominent art collector John Schaeffer is selling the whole-floor Darling Point apartment he bought only last year.
It is full of his 19th-century Pre-Raphaelite works of art which will follow him to his next home.
The apartment in the Manor development on Darling Point Road cost Schaeffer $4.25 million in March 2016.
Offering harbour views, the 322sqm apartment is described as house-size in its marketing.
It has three bedrooms, three balconies, a glass-enclosed sunroom and a new kitchen. The master suite comes with a balcony, walk-in wardrobe and marble ensuite.
Paul Biller and Ronan Chastain at Biller Property Double Bay have the listing.
Schaeffer is known in the east for his passion for prize property, having once owned the Bellevue Hill trophy home, Rona, before selling it for $20.5 million in 2005 to developer Terry Agnew and wife Kyril.

He also sold the Spanish Mission trophy home Boomerang in Elizabeth Bay the same year for $20 million to the Fox trucking family. It was the first property in Australia to crack $20 million.

The former contract cleaning entrepreneur owns at Bondi Beach in the Bondi Pacific.

Meagher family sell Darling Point home for around $26 million

Now dividing his time between South Yarra and Shoreham, the Rabo Bank chairman Bill Gurry sold his Sydney bolthole last week for $5.35 million.
It was called on the market at $4.05 million.
The Darling Point apartment has acted as Gurry's Sydney base for 12 years having paid $2.15 million in 2005 when he joined the bank board.
Set in the 1940s Storington building, the 173 sqm Harbour Bridge view apartment has four bedrooms.
Gurry, who was previously chairman at USB, has owned at South Yarra home since paying $970,000 in 2001.
He owns a $3.2 million seven hectare estate in Shoreham on the Mornington Peninsula, having sold his former country property Larnoo, a 1643ha farm running a 900-cow herd of Angus and Stablizer-cross cattle, to a Brighton syndicate in 2015.
Gurry has been the Rabo Bank chairman since 2009. 
He has previously held senior positions at Potter Warburg, National Mutual Royal Bank and Capel Court Corporation.
Gurry sits on the boards of the Melbourne University Law School Foundations and Financial Markets Foundation for Children.
