Perth’s new apartment market recorded its strongest quarter of sales since Q4 2021, with 412 apartments sold in Q1 2026 and a record quarterly sold value of $537 million, according to Urbis’ latest Apartment Essentials results.

Urbis said the March quarter result reflects strong, highly product‑specific demand across both ends of the market, from more attainable projects delivering at scale, through to premium stock being absorbed by equity‑rich downsizers.&nbsp;

David Cresp, Partner at Urbis, said the key story in Perth is not demand, it is the market’s ability to convert demand into delivered housing.&nbsp;

“This is the strongest sales quarter since Q4 2021, and it reinforces that demand in Perth is real and it’s local,” David Cresp said. “But the task now is delivery, turning that demand into projects that can actually be built and completed.”&nbsp;

Sales in Q1 were led by more affordable projects, with The Boulevard (SKS Group) recording 115 sales in the quarter, the presentation noting this is only the second time a single project has surpassed 100 quarterly sales. The project was able to offer more affordable housing product right next to a train station.&nbsp;

Palmyra West (Finbar) also delivered strong results with 28 sales in Q1, following 84 sales in Q4, with an average price of under $800,000, underscoring depth of demand for well‑located, attainable new stock.&nbsp;

At the premium end, Urbis said downsizer demand is continuing, with the results highlighting Romeo (Applecross, Finbar) recording 75 sales and reaching almost 50% sold in one quarter.

Jual (Shenton Park, Celsius Property) also posted a strong quarter with 28 sales, reaching 39% sold in one quarter.

Urbis noted that Perth apartment demand is not speculative, not investor‑led, and not uniform, describing it as localised, often equity‑driven and highly product‑specific, a pattern reflected in the polarisation between strong “attainable” performers and premium downsizer product.&nbsp;

Urbis said pricing pressure is cost not demand‑driven: construction costs and delivery risk are now a central constraint, with the results noting build costs remain elevated and volatile, and that energy, fuel and labour uncertainty weigh on feasibility.

David Cresp said a growing challenge for private Build‑to‑Sell developers is simply securing a builder in the current environment.

“Developers are really feeling the pressure from a building market that was operating at capacity and securing a builder is challenging,” David Cresp said, adding that even where a builder can be secured, “trying to get to the price that makes the development financially viable is incredibly challenging in the current market.”&nbsp;

Urbis’ broader WA commentary also notes that industry remains at or above capacity with lot and housing creation, and that many builders are limiting new sales to manage stretched workforces and fixed‑price contract pressures, conditions that flow directly into apartment feasibility and delivery timing.

<h2>Supply: improving later, but still constrained, and Perth lags eastern benchmarks</h2>

While near‑term supply remains constrained, Urbis’ forecast shows completions lifting “Supply is forecast to be back above 1,500 apartments per annum for the first time since 2019”, with 1,775 completions forecast for 2026, and volumes remaining above that level over the following years.&nbsp;

Looking further ahead, completions are forecast to reach 2,500 in 2028, with the report noting 32% of that total is social/affordable, reflecting the role of government‑supported delivery in rebuilding the pipeline.&nbsp;

However, Urbis said Perth remains behind comparable markets on pipeline scale. In a national comparison of projects under construction, the report shows under construction Perth Build‑to‑Sell (BTS) at 3,446 apartments versus the Gold Coast at 7,922. Mr Cresp said “The challenge for Perth is how to we grow the delivery pipeline”.

Urbis’ conclusion is that Perth’s market is increasingly defined by product discipline and delivery certainty, with the research identifying “delivery certainty is key” and calling out builder risk and procurement models as core success factors, alongside “timing and staging”.&nbsp;

Perth apartment sales hit strongest pace since late 2021 as builder capacity tightens

<a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/sammut-developments">Sammut Group</a> has secured development approval for its latest Brisbane apartment project, marking the Sydney developer’s next step in expanding its Queensland pipeline following the success of its debut Gold Coast development, Coast.

The approved project at <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/44-glen-road-toowong-qld-4066">44 Glen Road, </a><a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developments/toowong-qld-4066">Toowong</a> will deliver a 15-storey riverfront apartment building with 42 residences, significantly increasing the scale of the site’s previous approval for a smaller luxury scheme. Designed by Bureau^proberts, the development will comprise a mix of predominantly four-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments positioned to maximise Brisbane River and city views.

Sammut Director Julian Sammut said the group had been actively searching Brisbane for several years before identifying Toowong as the right fit.

“Brisbane was the right step for Sammut,” Sammut said.

“With the success of Coast we thought we should definitely look to do more in Queensland alone. We then pushed up to look at Brisbane. We've been looking for I'd say two to three years actually and it was hard to find the right location.”

Sammut said suburbs including New Farm and Teneriffe were considered before the group ultimately focused on Toowong due to its strong downsizer demographic and limited supply of developable riverfront land.

The site was acquired off-market after what Sammut described as a lengthy negotiation and planning process, with the developer pursuing an uplift to the original approval.

“We are DA approved now which is very exciting,” Sammut said.

“We've had our change approval come through and we've obviously doubled the height, 15 storeys plus rooftop. We've got 42 amazing apartments that are going to be coming to market soon.”

Bureau^proberts said the design responds to Toowong’s evolving urban character, balancing contemporary apartment living with the area’s established residential identity.

“A place where traditional Queensland living has taken place for centuries; Toowong is seeing a shift of contemporary influence, commercial and retail hubs mixed with well-considered residential offerings – all the while maintaining its character and charm,” the architect noted in planning documents submitted to Brisbane City Council.

The architecture practice said the project’s form was shaped by its riverfront setting, flood considerations, neighbouring building scales, and view corridors.

“They said the mix of four and two-bedroom apartments capture the ‘fundamental qualities of Queenslander living,’ translated into the context of a contemporary subtropical building.”

The development sits just off Coronation Drive within walking distance of Toowong’s retail precinct and the upgraded Regatta ferry terminal, while also benefiting from proximity to the incoming green bridge connection to West End. Sammut said the accessibility and amenity offering were central to the site’s appeal.

The approval adds to growing residential activity along the Toowong riverfront, joining nearby projects including Consolidated Properties’ Monarch Residences and Spyre Group’s ARC Residences.

Sammut secures approval for debut Brisbane apartment development in Toowong

Developer Lanevick is heading back into Sydney’s apartment market after focusing more heavily on the luxury townhouse and terrace sector in recent years.

Lanevick, founded and directed by Steve Maroun, is expecting to receive approval in the coming months for a new apartment development in Gladesville, with the aim to launch it to the market later this year.

The 51-apartment project, designed by Studio Johnston, will comprise a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments positioned toward the Hunters Hill downsizer market.

“Traditionally it’s been difficult for people in that market to downsize because there just hasn’t been the right product available,” Maroun said.

“We’re targeting buyers who might have 30 to 40 per cent of their house value sitting in the bank after downsizing.

“They still want good spacious entertaining areas, they still want quality design, but they also want flexibility and the ability to enjoy life a bit more after working hard for a long time.”

The project sits near Boronia Park and within close proximity to the Parramatta River foreshore, an area Maroun says offers more of a Hunters Hill lifestyle than a traditional apartment precinct.

“From a lifestyle perspective, it’s really more Hunters Hill than Gladesville,” Maroun said. “You’re close to the foreshore, close to parklands, and still connected back into the village precinct.”

From level four and above, apartments will capture water views&nbsp;toward Sydney Harbour. Communal amenity will include rooftop entertaining areas, wellness spaces, and a gym tailored toward owner-occupier buyers.

“We’ve really designed these apartments around that buyer coming from the Hunters Hill LGA and what they’re actually looking for in their next chapter.”

The proposed development has also been designed to respond to the changing character of the broader Gladesville town centre, where a growing number of mixed-use and residential proposals are expected to emerge over the coming years.

“Gladesville presented a rare opportunity to deliver a genuinely design-led residential project within an evolving lifestyle precinct, just moments from the growing Gladesville town centre, and we’ve approached the project with a strong focus on architecture, liveability and long-term community value,” Maroun said.

Maroun said Lanevick saw a first-mover advantage within the precinct as planning controls continue to evolve to accommodate greater housing density.

“We think there’s a real opportunity there that hasn’t really been serviced properly yet,” he said.

“There’s going to be a broader evolution of the whole Gladesville village precinct over time, particularly with more activation and mixed-use outcomes.”

The Venus Street proposal will include a commercial and retail component at ground level designed to contribute to that evolving streetscape activation.

“A big part of the thinking was how do you activate that area properly and create more vibrancy and amenity, which is what Hunters Hill has been looking for,” Maroun said.

Lanevick’s focus since 2020 has largely been on smaller-scale luxury townhouse and terrace developments. The developer recently completed Royale Randwick, also designed by Studio Johnston, where prices reached $3.65 million. The project was featured in the UDIA NSW 2026 Professional Development Prospectus and was also named a finalist for Development of the Year.

Lanevick to cater for Hunters Hill downsizers with new Gladesville apartment development

Property developer One Living, backed by former Macquarie banker turned investment manager Chris Green’s investment firm, has unveiled plans to bring more institutional capital into housing to help address the national supply crisis.

The New York-based investor has focused his firm, GreenPoint Partners, on addressing the supply shortage hitting middle market housing in Australia.

It is backing the new One Living business to develop more than 1000 units along the eastern seaboard. The new firm is starting with a development on Mona Vale Road, on the border of Mona Vale and Pymble, in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, with around 140 apartments planned. They are eyeing off more sites across the city.

With cost pressures rising in the industry, One Living’s model is to be a vertically integrated developer-builder, so it can respond directly to the housing gap by removing the cost inefficiencies embedded in traditional residential delivery.

“We are building a platform designed to operate at scale and starting in a market where there’s a clear need for quality, attainable housing,” One Living joint managing director Joseph Scuderi said.

“It’s that missing middle – it’s that attainable end of housing… that’s what most Australians invest into and what Australians can actually afford.”

Green said being a builder-developer would give the company the capacity and flexibility it required to deliver reasonably-priced homes.

“We want it to be at that attainable level; not super high end luxury but at that attainable level,” he said.

One Living will undertake a component of affordable housing in its schemes, which it will own and operate, and it could also run build-to-rent on some sites.

Green praised local policy settings.

“The NSW government is being very supportive, strategic and pragmatic in terms of how do we generate more supply of housing,” he said. “We think it’s actually positive for development and the bit that’s been lacking at that attainable level is that it’s lots of relatively small private developers, whereas we want to create an institutional platform.”

One Living is also&nbsp;looking at high-density projects and could take on more institutional funding in the future.

“The way we will be able to achieve economies of scale is through size,” Green added.

WM Residences fills gap in Mordialloc townhouse market

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has raised concerns over supermarket giant Coles’ proposed bid to buy four Progressive Supa IGA stores in Western Australia.
While Coles has recently been under <a href="https://www.smartcompany.com.au/legal/42614-coles-categorically-denies-bullying-suppliers" target="_blank">scrutiny over allegations it has used its market power to bully suppliers</a>, the company is looking to further expand its market share in the west with the acquisition.
The stores, which are located in the Perth suburb of Dianella and the regional towns of Busselton, Halls Head and Bunbury, are not located close to any other Supa IGA stores in at least three of the four local markets.
While the supermarket duopoly is widely recognised across Australia, the Western Australian market also has to deal with the absence of players such as Aldi, Foodworks and 7-Eleven.
The ACCC said in a <a href="https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/accc-calls-for-comment-on-proposed-acquisition-of-supa-iga-stores-in-wa-by-coles" target="_blank">statement</a> its preliminary view is that the proposed acquisition may result in a substantial lessening of competition.
ACCC Commissioner Dr Jill Walker said market participants had expressed concerns about losing the differentiated offering of their local Progressive Supa IGA stores.
“The ACCC considers that the differentiated offer of the Supa IGA stores reflects a competitive response to rival supermarkets and provides additional choice to consumers,” said Walker.
“The ACCC is also concerned that the proposed acquisition would remove access to Supa IGA promotions for shoppers in these areas.”
According to the ACCC’s issues paper, the newly acquired stores would be within a few hundred meters of existing Coles stores. 
A Coles spokesperson told SmartCompany the supermarket major is considering the issues raised by the ACCC.
John Cummings, president of the WA Independent Grocers Association, told SmartCompany that while the grocery market in WA is still one third Coles, one third Woolworths and one third independents, 30 years ago independent grocers enjoyed a 54% market share.
“What’s happened is over a period of time Coles and Woolworths have acquired independent stores and increased their market share,” says Cummings.
“I think only two stores have gone broke, the rest were bought by Coles and Woolworths.”
Cummings says the WA Independent Grocers Association has long been opposed to these “creeping acquisitions” which eliminate competitive power from the independents left standing.
According to Cummings, if the Busselton acquisition goes ahead, there will be two Coles stores within about 200m of each other, while there would be a difference of about 500m between the two Coles stores in Bunbury.
In Dianella, Cummings says there will be around 15 Coles and Woolworths supermarkets within a 3-5 kilometre radius.
“I mean, there’s got to be huge competition issues,” says Cummings.
Cummings also says small WA suppliers will be affected by the acquisition, as their deals with IGA stores are terminated.
“A lot of local suppliers will be put off the shelf. You have to be a national supplier to be stocked at Woolworths or Coles,” he says.
Cummings says while Coles will likely pay more than the going market rate to secure the IGAs, due to its market power, it is in a position to potentially lose money on the stores – a luxury which an independent grocer doesn’t have.
“That’s why we have the ACCC to maintain competition laws,” says Cummings. “The ACCC are saying [to Coles], this isn’t going to be as easy as you thought it was.”

Noting that their Ascot Vale store is “bursting at the seams” forcing them to close up at Prahran, it also says business will continue at Ascot Vale as they expand the store.
They opened up shop in November 2012, giving out 1,000 free cupcakes at launch. Prior to this time, the store was florist Tony’s Flowers On Ascot.
The Prahran outlet, previously Stall 98B, will be closed from 19 July.

Two new Woolworths supermarkets will be built at Meriton developments, one in Sydney and one on the Gold Coast, under a newly signed deal.
The Mascot Central Woolworths will be 3,200 square metres and will service 1,200 residential and serviced apartments alongside Woolworths. There will also be 16 supporting shops.
The Southport, Queensland development will include a 1,200 square metre supermarket at 55-storey Sundale, providing for 551 residential and serviced apartments. There will be 12 supporting shops.
They are both expecting completion in 2016.
Meriton national leasing and asset manager Omri Zelunzuk said that they’re looking forward to welcoming the iconic Australian brand.
“Woolworths will be an integral part of our retail offering in both locations, creating a neighbourhood shopping centre that will act as a meeting hub for our residential community. We’re looking forward to seeing Australia’s largest supermarket chain open at Mascot and Southport,” he said.

Meriton and Woolworths sign deal for stores at Sydney and Gold Coast developments

A freehold Lygon Street, Carlton restaurant premises has sold for $1.87 million, reflecting a 4.3% yield.
The 128-130 Lygon Street premises sold to a local investor subject to a five-year lease at $81,000 a year. 
The tenant operates an Indian restaurant, Royale Fusion at the 128 square metre holding. 
With 230 square metres available space, it sold through Matthew Feld and Larry Takis from Teska Carson.
There was a recent sale at 112 Lygon, but its price has not been revealed, although Property Observer gathers next door sold last December when 110 Lygon fetched $1.5 million. They were both three storey terraces on around 120 square metres.
Last December 346 Lygon sold for $2.48 million. It was an 96 square metre holding that was up for lease at $100,000 in 2009, and then eased to national retailer Moss River. It was reportedly the first time 346 Lygon Street had been offered for sale since 1921. Teska Carson's Michael Ludski said the two-storey building in the retail precinct sold on a 4.01% yield after acquisition costs. It was subject to a new five-year lease at a net annual rental of $105,000.
Knight Frank secured $3.77 million in October last year when an 136 square metre Faraday Street corner offering at 350 Lygon went to auction.  Laree Jane, the former wife of businessman racing driver Bob Jane, was the vendor of the historic, two-storey building leased to Grill'd restaurant. It sold on a low yield of 4.2%. It had also sold at $695,000 in 1992.

The 402 Lygon Street building was up for sale for the first time in 100 years, having operated as a butchery since the early 1900s, with Donati's based there since 1972. 
Other sales on Lygon Street were the 84-square-metre premises of Intrepid Travel at 231 Lygon Street, which sold for $1.9 million in 2011 equating to $22,619 per square metre and a passing initial yield of 3.62%, and 163-165 Lygon Street, the premises of Casa Del Gelato, which sold for $2.8 million ($10,294 per square metre) in 2010 on a yield of 3.48%.
In absolute terms, the highest price paid since 2008 was $3.71 million paid for 350 Lygon Street, a two-level corner site in 2009 measuring 173 square metres, equating to $21,445 per square metre.

Lygon Street, Carlton restaurant sale yields 4.3% in $1.87 million sale

Trend retail turnover in the Northern Territory increased by 0.3% in May 2014, according to latest statistics, with the month’s growth making it the 13th consecutive growth month recorded.
This was the equal highest monthly growth, matching New South Wales.
In the ACT, the largest decline, 0.6%, was recorded, followed by a 0.1% decline in Tasmania. Nationally, results were flat.
Over the year to May 2014, the Northern Territory’s retail trade turnover situation was up 4.6%. Retail trade turnover nationally was just behind for the same period, with 4.3% growth.
Treasurer Dave Tollner said that there is currently low unemployment and high levels of economic activity.
“Economic forecasters have been predicting strong growth in the Territory economy and it’s reassuring to see our monthly indicators continuing to rise,” he said.

Anchored by United Petroleum Pty Ltd, who has signed to a 10-year lease until 2022, the other two retail stores operate as a food store and noodle shop.
Paul Tzamalis, Jamus Campbell and Dean Hunt from CBRE are selling the property. The vendors are a syndicate of private investors.
“Located three kilometres south of the highly successful Laurimar Estate by Lend Lease, this asset stands to leverage off significant growth and increased traffic flow in the area, fuelled by a collection of new communities being established in the Mernda-Doreen region,” Tzamalis said.

Expressions of interest open for service station in fast-growing Melbourne area

Stocktake sales have enticed Australian shoppers to open up their wallets after the May budget, with retail sales up 18.4% in the past two weeks.
While retail sales took a hit after the <a href="https://www.smartcompany.com.au/federal-budget-2014/765-finance/41935-budget-2014-small-business-reacts-to-not-a-bad-budget" target="_blank">Abbott government’s first budget</a>, data from the Australian Retail Index shows the sector finished off the 2013-14 financial year on a strong note with 4.1% growth in June.
“After a slump in sales post the release of the federal budget, shoppers were quick to forget their concerns, and return with confidence,” said Simon Scalzo, national retail lead partner of BDO, one of the firms behind the Australian Retail Index.
Russell Zimmerman, executive director of the Australian Retailers Association, told SmartCompany he has seen a similar recovery in sales since the budget.
While Zimmerman says it is hard to say for sure which factors caused lower retail sales in May, he says it is fair to say “consumers kicked back” against the budget. Shoppers were also less likely to purchase winter goods in May due to unusually warm weather, he says.
“What we are hearing is that it has come good in the past few weeks and that is in part due to the return of the cold weather that retailers were looking for,” says Zimmerman.
“I think some consumers are also realising the budget was not as bad as they initially thought.”
“But I would caution it is not across the board,” he says. “Some retailers have said it hasn’t been as strong, including some SMEs and those in the hardware sector. Some have said it has been tough.”
Nevertheless, Zimmerman says the sector had “generally not a bad finish” to the end of the financial year, led by the department stores which appear to have benefited from their traditional mid-year stocktake sales.
While Zimmerman says stocktake sales might not be as popular as they were 20 years ago, he says they “absolutely” still make a difference to the country’s retailers.
“People still believe in the stocktake sale. It’s the same with Boxing Day,” says Zimmerman.
The Australian Retail Index, which was <a href="https://www.smartcompany.com.au/marketing/sales/41642-new-retail-sales-index-to-give-shop-owners-daily-data" target="_blank">launched in April</a>, also tracks fluctuations across different retail categories, including furniture and homewares, fashion and accessories, sporting goods and other general retail.
Scalzo says the furniture and homewares category proved the most stable throughout the 2013-14 financial year, while fashion and accessories and other general retail proved the most volatile.
But while the retail sector appears to be well-placed heading into the new financial year, Scalzo says retailers should brace themselves for the winter months.
“If history is anything to go by, retailers should expect activity to be short-lived over the remaining cooler months, with historic consumer confidence showing a dip in sales between August and October,” says Scalzo.

Retail sector finishes financial year on a high: Spend recovers after budget slump

Baked potato franchise Spudbar is having a second bite at expanding beyond its Victorian base, after two stores previously closed in Western Australia.
In its hometown of Melbourne, the baked potato chain has grown to 11 stores since its initial launch in 2000.
This growth had previously led to Spudbar opening two company-owned stores in Western Australia in a bid to expand its brand, with outlets in the Perth suburbs of Cannington and Joondalup.
However, both stores eventually closed, with the first going out of business 18 months ago, and the second closing in January of this year.
Despite the closures, the company is planning to embark on a second round of national expansion.
SmartCompany understands the company is working with a franchisee in Western Australia ahead of a future store opening.
In addition to the Perth-based store, the company <a href="https://www.franchisebusiness.com.au/c/SPUDBAR/opportunities" target="_blank">is also advertising franchise opportunities</a> in Canberra, Hobart, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sydney.
According to the advertisements, an investment of between $230,000 and $290,000 will be required to open each store.
The chain is one of a number of rapidly expanding Melbourne-based fast food retailers in Australia, including <a href="https://www.smartcompany.com.au/leadership/profiles/34482-roll-d-gold-how-bao-hoang-delivered-rice-paper-rolls-to-the-masses" target="_blank">Noodle Box</a> and <a href="https://www.smartcompany.com.au/leadership/profiles/34482-roll-d-gold-how-bao-hoang-delivered-rice-paper-rolls-to-the-masses" target="_blank">Roll’d</a>.
However, there are clear risks to the national expansion of a fast food franchise.
Back in 2010, fast food chain <a href="https://www.smartcompany.com.au/growth/17745-20101203-fast-food-franchise-souvlaki-hut-collapses-into-administration--but-buyers-waiting-to-pounce" target="_blank">Souvlaki Hut collapsed into administration</a> just 10 months after being named one of Australia’s fastest growing franchises.

Melbourne’s Spudbar taking another bite at the Western Australian market

Sydney’s World Square Shopping Centre has outstripped the Queen Victoria Building, according to the 2014 Shopping Centre News “CBD Guns” survey in a result that is sure to get Sydney retailers talking.
The Brookfield and Arcadia owned World Shopping Centre ranked number one in the survey of highest sales in Moving Annual Turnover – bringing in $17,265 per square metre from a moving annual turnover of $237.94 million. World Square has 16,347 square metres of gross lettable area over three levels.
Ben Davis, precinct manager for World Square, said that they are delighted with the result and achievement in a short time frame. They opened in 2005.
"To be placed in the top five in all ranked categories is a great accomplishment and a result that lays the foundations for an exciting period of change and growth ahead," said Davis.
It has indeed been a busy year, with new brands signing up to World Square, including Guzman Y Gomez and Oliver Brown, and renewals of Hugo Boss, HypeDC and Din Tai Fung restaurant.
"We offer a unique retail proposition in Sydney’s CBD where brands have twice the patronage of Sydney International Airport and have access to a central open space, to engage and motivate customers,” he said.
In total, the centre houses 92 speciality stores, including G Star Raw, Marcs, Cue, Calvin Klein Jeans, Priceline and Coles.
CBRE director of retail services, Leif Olson, said that World Square also includes 90,000 square metres of office space, a 400-room adjoining hotel and a Meriton apartment building.
“World Square is in a unique position to capitalise on the large residential population and workforce surrounding, as well as incorporated, in this asset – all of which has helped leverage this centre to be recognised as one of the country’s best,” said Olson.
Food and beverage turnover experienced 21% growth over the past 12 months, with general retail sales up 11.3% over the period.
“The residential population in this area of the city has flourished in recent years, and this is expected to continue, with increased focus on residential conversion opportunities,” Olson said.

World Square tops QVB to become Sydney's best performing mall

Spanish fashion retailer Zara has announced that they will open their first Perth store, which will be their 10th Australian outlet.
The new store will be in AMP Capital’s Garden City Shopping Centre and comes as UK’s Topshop is reportedly looking to open a store in the West Australian capital.
Garden City is in Booragoon, and the Property Council of Australia notes that it has ranked at the top of the list for speciality sales per square metre in the state for over a decade.
The centre is to undergo a $750 million redevelopment and expansion, with the state government recently removing caps on shopping centre expansions.
The mall will be 120,000 square metres, and would become the largest shopping centre development approved across Western Australia. If approval goes to plan, construction is slated for a 2016 commencement date.
However, the Zara store could be in as early as next month.
Zara’s first stores included Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall and Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall.
However, this isn’t the first time the Spanish brand has eyed Western Australia’s opportunities, with <a href="/news/zara-heading-to-perth-with-topshop-likely-to-follow">plans back in 2013 to open a $5 million Murray Street Mall store</a>. Council documents saw plans for a new two-storey building and one-storey addition to an existing retail building at the mall to house Zara.
These plans are still underway.
