The graceful Widcombe mansion in the picturesque Adelaide Hills township of Aldgate has been sold.

Its fetched $1.55 million having been initially listed in 2008 with $2.4 million hopes and more recently at $1,695,000.

The parcel of land cost $250,000 in 2000.

Its facade mimics the Palladian-style Widcombe Manor, reputedly Bath's finest Georgian residence.

As with the grand country house for which it is named, Widcombe comes on a park-like setting, albeit scaled down to a 2.5 acres.

There's a perfect symmetry to its Georgian sash windows.

The family saw the Bath version in a  House & Garden magazine.
