Apartment buyers in New South Wales are set to gain a decade of insurance-backed protection against major building defects, after the NSW Parliament passed the Fair Trading and Building Legislation Amendment Bill 2026.&nbsp;

The Bill establishes decennial defect insurance, known in the market as Latent Defects Insurance (LDI), as an alternative to the existing two-year strata building bond. It cleared the Legislative Council with amendments on Tuesday evening (August 4, 2026), with the Legislative Assembly agreeing to those amendments shortly after.

Under the reform, eligible developers can satisfy their statutory bond obligation by taking out an approved decennial-style policy that gives owners 10 years of cover for major structural defects from completion, claimable directly, without first having to pursue developers or builders through costly legal action.&nbsp;

The change forms the final tranche of amendments arising from the 2021 statutory review of the Strata Schemes Management Act 2015 and related legislation.

Resilience Insurance, which originated the cover in Australia and has delivered it in NSW since 2022, welcomed the passage and credited the NSW Government for delivering it.

“This is protection apartment buyers have needed for a long time, and the credit for delivering it belongs to the NSW Government,”&nbsp;said Corey Nugent, CEO of Resilience Insurance.

“Minister Chanthivong and his team have shown real leadership in replacing an outdated two-year bond with cover that matches the lifespan of the buildings people are buying into. Reform like this is what good, evidence-based regulation looks like.”

Resilience has delivered LDI in NSW since 2022, protecting thousands of apartments, giving the State, and now the country, real-world evidence of how decade-long, no-fault protection works in practice.

The reform also places NSW within a wider national shift.

NSW is the third jurisdiction to put decennial cover into law. The ACT legislated for it in 2024, with the scheme taking effect in late 2025, and Victoria passed its own framework on 17 June. Between them, the three cover the majority of Australia's apartment market.

The reform commences once the legislation is proclaimed, which is expected in the coming weeks. From that point, developers of Class 2 residential apartment buildings can meet their statutory obligation with an approved decennial policy in place of the bond.

Buyers who purchased into projects that took out the cover early are among the first in the country to take keys to apartments carrying decade-long structural protection.

“With the legislation passed, the focus now turns to making it work for buyers,”&nbsp;Nugent said.

“There are already thousands of apartments in NSW covered by this insurance, bought by developers who moved early. The question every buyer should be asking in a display suite is a simple one: does this building come with 10-year defect cover, and who stands behind it?&nbsp;

“We look forward to working with the Government and the Building Commission in coming weeks as the framework moves to implementation, and to sharing what we have learned over the past four years so the protection reaches owners as smoothly and quickly as possible.”

Other states are working through their own reform programs. Western Australia has indicated that decennial cover is within consideration a later stage of its reform sequence, and Queensland has been examining the settings as it looks at the development pipeline ahead of the 2032 Olympics.

NSW parliament passes 10-year defect insurance laws for new apartment buyers

Builder-developer <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/mcnab-developments">McNab</a> has wasted little time reshaping one of South Brisbane's most significant undeveloped apartment sites after acquiring the property earlier this year.&nbsp;

McNab has lodged plans to scrap an existing approval for two 30-storey towers and instead deliver a single 28-storey residential building, preserving part of the site for a future development opportunity.

The proposal, lodged over <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/64-peel-street-south-brisbane-qld-4101">64 Peel Street and 9 Cordelia Street</a>, is for a residential-led mixed-use development comprising 124 apartments above a landscaped podium, alongside a boundary realignment that preserves part of the land for a future residential project.

A five-level podium will accommodate 135 car spaces, while the ground floor will include a 66 sqm commercial tenancy, an activated residential lobby with work-from-home spaces, and a publicly accessible landscaped plaza linking Cordelia and Peel streets.&nbsp;

Communal amenities will span Level 6 and the rooftop, including indoor and outdoor recreation spaces, a swimming pool, barbecue facilities, kitchen and dining areas, lawn space, sauna, steam room and yoga facilities.

The application also proposes a boundary realignment to create a standalone 1,290 sqm development lot while retaining an adjacent parcel for future redevelopment, allowing the balance of the site to contribute additional housing over time.

Hayball said the architecture has been shaped by the site's elevated corner position at the intersection of Peel and Cordelia streets and Brisbane's subtropical climate.

The design incorporates generous landscaped setbacks, a masonry podium wrapped with planting, large north-facing balconies, and a slender tower profile intended to maximise natural light, cross ventilation and long-range views. The rooftop has been conceived as a wellness-focused retreat overlooking Brisbane, with amenities positioned to capture views towards Mount Coot-tha and the CBD.

The planning submission positions the proposal as a response to both changing market conditions and Brisbane's Kurilpa Sustainable Growth Precinct planning reforms.

McNab acquired the site after the previous approval was granted, with the existing scheme no longer reflecting current residential market demands, economic conditions, construction challenges, construction efficiencies or the quality of development outcome now being pursued, the planning report noted.

McNab continues to expand its residential development pipeline across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The developer recently launched The Tannery in West End, securing more than 60 per cent of apartments before the project's public release. It is also delivering Elements Budds Beach in Surfers Paradise and Lucia Highgate Hill, an eight-apartment boutique development overlooking the Brisbane River.

A steeply sloping Bellevue Hill site is set to accommodate a new mid-rise apartment development, with plans lodged for 20 homes that respond to the site's dramatic topography.

The proposal for the consolidated land at <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/138a-140-bellevue-road-bellevue-hill-nsw-2023">138A-140 Bellevue Road</a> has been designed by Sydney architecture practice Common Office, which has used the site’s substantial fall to distribute the building’s scale and unlock 20 apartments without presenting the full height to the street.&nbsp;

“The unique design strategy leverages the site’s substantial topographical fall to facilitate increased density, presenting a seven-storey profile to Bellevue Road while rising to 10 storeys at the rear,” Common Office said in its architectural design report.

The apartment mix spans one, two, three- and four-bedroom residences. Four two-bedroom apartments are designated as affordable housing, while the plans also include two adaptable dwellings. The mix is majority three-beds, with the typical three-bed apartment offering around 144 sqm internally, with balconies of around 15 sqm.

The affordable housing component represents 15 per cent of the residential floor area and allows the project to access additional height and floor space under the NSW Government’s in-fill affordable housing provisions. The site also falls within the inner area of the Low and Mid-Rise Housing Policy because it is within 400 metres walking distance of Double Bay Town Centre.

Common Office has arranged the building around a masonry podium and a lighter upper volume, drawing on two recurring elements of Bellevue Hill’s established architecture: sandstone bases and the vertical proportions of local Inter-war Art Deco apartment buildings.

“The proposal is governed by a holistic design language that reconciles the solid horizontal masonry of the neighbourhood’s podiums with the elegant verticality of its Art Deco heritage,” the architect said.

“The building maintains a consistent rhythmic logic utilising deep recesses and a sophisticated material transition to break down the 10-storey scale into a series of articulated, human-scale volumes.”

Large-format sandstone tiles will define the lower levels, establishing a robust base that negotiates the change in elevation from Bellevue Road. Above, red-tinted precast concrete frames, recessed balconies, anodised aluminium screens and expanded metal details will create a more vertically expressed façade. Integrated planter beds will introduce greenery across balcony edges and recessed sections of the building.

The elongated northern façade has been divided into three recessed vertical masses to reduce its perceived length. Triangular window elements and metal privacy screens reference the geometry of nearby Art Deco buildings while controlling overlooking toward surrounding homes. The southern elevation will incorporate further privacy screening, landscaped edges and deep balconies to maintain light and ventilation.

Private and communal landscaping is distributed throughout the development. A landscaped garden apartment is positioned within the lower portion of the site, while a communal terrace on Level 5 will include a central timber deck, barbecue facilities, resident planting plots and areas for outdoor dining and informal gatherings.

Common Office described the terrace as an elevated sanctuary designed to capture district views and sunlight. Its planting strategy incorporates endemic species associated with the Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub, extending the landscape vertically through the building and providing habitat for local flora and fauna.

A second communal outdoor area is proposed at roof level, with built-in seating, paved gathering areas and perimeter planting.

The podium has also been designed as an architectural feature rather than a conventional parking structure, with cascading planting, screening and natural-toned materials softening its appearance. Resident parking is elevated above ground level to address the site's flood constraints, while habitable apartments sit above flood planning levels. Upper-level communal facilities are designed to accommodate shelter-in-place arrangements during major flood events.

The development will provide 163 car spaces, including 152 resident bays and 11 visitor spaces, together with 144 bicycle spaces incorporating resident storage, visitor parking, bicycle maintenance facilities and e-mobility charging infrastructure.

The site sits within one of Brisbane's fastest-changing inner-city precincts, less than two kilometres from the CBD and within easy reach of South Bank, West End, the Queensland Cultural Centre and extensive public transport connections. The Kurilpa Sustainable Growth Precinct planning framework is encouraging higher-density residential development to help meet Brisbane's housing supply targets while supporting walkable, transit-oriented neighbourhoods.

Sydney’s property market is known for high prices, competitive bidding, and mounting pressure on first home buyers. But change is on the horizon.

From late 2025, eligible first home buyers in New South Wales will have access to a new federal government initiative aimed at addressing affordability: the Help to Buy Scheme.&nbsp;

<h2>What is the Help to Buy Scheme?</h2>

The program introduces a shared equity model intended to reduce the upfront cost of entering the property market, particularly in high-demand urban areas such as Sydney.

The scheme operates under a shared ownership structure in which the federal government takes an equity stake of up to 40 per cent for new homes, or 30 per cent for existing dwellings. This arrangement allows eligible buyers to significantly reduce their loan size and avoid the added cost of Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI).

Under this model, purchasers can enter the property market with as little as a two per cent deposit, well below the traditional 10 to 20 per cent usually required. The government’s contribution is not a loan but a co-ownership stake in the property. As such, there is no interest or rent charged on its portion.

Because the government’s equity combined with the buyer’s deposit typically meets or exceeds the 20 per cent threshold, LMI does not apply. The remaining balance, generally between 60 and 70 per cent of the property’s value, is financed through a standard home loan with a participating lender.

The government's equity in the property remains in place until the buyer chooses to repay it voluntarily or until the property is sold. Buyers can buy back the government’s share over time, in increments of at least five per cent, depending on their financial situation.

There is no fixed repayment timeline, but the amount to be repaid will be based on the property's market value at the time of repayment, not the original purchase price.

<h2>How do you qualify for the&nbsp;Help to Buy Scheme?</h2>

To qualify for the Help to Buy Scheme, applicants must meet the following conditions:

	<li>Be an Australian citizen at least 18 years of age.</li>
	<li>Be a first-home buyer who does not currently own property.</li>
	<li>Intend to live in the property as their primary residence.</li>
	<li>Earn less than $100,000 per year for individuals, or $160,000 for couples.</li>

Iris joint managing director Sam Arnaout says Iris will redevelop the site given they view the sum of the property’s parts, worth more than the current hotel offering.
Iris is considering a mixed-use retail plus residential for the upper levels with the expectation of high purchaser demand. From 1995 Iris had had the strategy to acquire freehold venues in suburban Sydney with strong gaming revenues, solid retail trade and underlying land values. Why do people procrastinate when it comes to saving a deposit or investing in property? Intellectually, I suspect that most people know they should invest, but most people make very poor plans for their financial futures, if they even plan at all. 
Here are a few of the reasons why people delay investing: 
<ul>
<li>Fear of failure</li>
<li>They are impossibly disorganised</li>
<li>They are ‘doing fine’ without investing</li>
<li>Marital disagreements</li>
<li>People may feel too incompetent to invest</li>
<li>An inability to face serious issues </li>
<li>They ‘can’t afford to invest’.</li>
</ul>
Fear of failure
It is human nature to have a fear of the unknown, and for many people, investment is an unknown quantity. Many people are afraid of investing for fear of losing substantial amounts of money, or worse, being conned out of it. This is natural, as none of us wants to lose what we have worked hard for, or appear foolish.
The fear comes from a lack of clear understanding of the risks of investing. Fortunately, there are easy ways to begin investing in a low-risk manner with little or no risk of loss of capital. Then, as you learn more, you may begin to feel comfortable taking on more risk.
Impossibly disorganised
We probably all know people who are totally disorganised, seem incapable of arranging their affairs and never look at their bank statements.
They often appear to be busy or scatterbrained people with a short attention span and no appetite for detail. There can be any number of causes, such as stressful jobs, addictions or relationship problems, but these are habits that can potentially be ‘un-learned’ relatively quickly.
Generally, people are not keen to look at bills, credit card statements and bank statements because they fear that they will bring only bad news.
However, not looking at them will not improve the news they bring. The good news is that once you begin to take your finances more seriously, looking at bank statements and investment accounts automatically begins to bring you pleasure rather than pain.

‘Doing fine’
This is perhaps the most common thing I see in young professionals of today: an attitude that they don’t really need to invest because they are earning a good salary and intend to earn a higher salary in the future. I believe that this attitude partly comes from a misunderstanding of how wealth is created.
Many of us have been taught to work as hard as we can and earn the highest salary we can get, but the taxation system is loaded against us achieving wealth in this manner.
How many people do you know who spend every dollar they earn, and sometimes more? A fair few, I expect.
There is a dangerous tendency towards consumerism in the modern world. Too many of us believe that money should be earned and then spent on depreciating assets such as cars, big televisions and other toys.
While these items give the impression of wealth, they do not create wealth. Instead, they destroy it. Sometimes, it seems that people feel rich if they have a large amount of cash in their pocket. The problem with this is that cash in the pocket tends to get spent unwisely.
Marital disagreements
Money and finances cause a huge amount of tension in some marriages, particularly where spouses have different attitudes, risk profiles and priorities in life. When it comes to investing, it is certain that you and your spouse will have a different attitude to risk, because every person is different.
This can be problematic where one party has a very strong aversion to risk and the other is naturally a gambler or drawn to high-risk investments. The solution to this situation is to be open, discuss an agreed plan of action and stick to the agreed plan.
Feel too incompetent
This is related to the fear of failing, and the remedy is education. Generally, in life, people feel afraid or nervous when they do not know what they are doing. Therefore, by educating yourself, the fear and feelings of incompetence will diminish.
Inability to face serious issues
As we have noted, many people do not have a written will, and this is indicative of an unwillingness to confront serious issues such as financial welfare, retirement and death.
Many people, therefore, adopt an attitude of living for the day and relieving stress through impulsive spending, known as retail therapy. While there is a tendency for peers to admire such a carefree attitude, it is not smart to fail to plan for your future.
‘Can’t afford it’
There is sometimes a misconception that it takes a lot of money to start investing, but it definitely does not.
We can begin to make a difference to our finances today through cutting down on expenditure and saving a small pool of cash, perhaps in a separate bank account.
This is a good way to start – simply by reducing consumer debt and saving a small pool of funds. It really does not take much capital per month to begin an investment plan, so please do not be misled into believing that it does.

Darwin dwelling prices have increased 11.7% in the year to date, as nationally dwelling prices were virtually at a standstill, recording a 0.1% decline.

Darwin house prices record double-digit growth in 2012 as national dwelling values tread water: RP Data-Rismark

GPT has opened the first of three buildings in its 5 Murray Rose development at Sydney’s Olympic Park.
The A-grade campus-style building, which has 12,000 square metres of office space, will be tenanted by beer maker and food company Lion, which has committed to a 12-year lease and will relocate 800 people to the Olympic Park business precinct.
Among the beers Lion produces are Tooheys, XXXX, Hahn and James Boag.
The building, the first of three GPT is building as part of a $200 million development, has received a six-star green star rating from the Green Building Council (GBC) and is targeting a five-star NABERS energy and water rating.
A rooftop solar farm, which generates more solar energy per square metre than any other commercial building of it scale in NSW, produces 25% of the base building’s electricity requirements.
GPT Group chief executive and managing director Michael Cameron says building is exemplified GPT’s commitment to sustainability.
“The best practice sustainable design on show in this building is what people have come to expect from GPT,” he says.
It includes a bar serving Lion’s famous brews and beverages.
GPT is the largest private land owner of commercial space in Sydney Olympic Park, with an additional 200,000 square metres of commercial, retail and residential space secured for future development within the precinct.
The Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan for 2030 aims to grow the precinct daily population to 50,000, which includes up to 20,000 visitors.

GPT commits to sustainability with six-star office building opening at Sydney’s Olympic Park

Bank of Queensland (BoQ) has pre-committed to lease 56% of the office space in FKP’s ‘Gasometer 2’ office development within the Gasworks site on the banks of the Brisbane River.
BoQ has committed to lease 13,100 square metres of space in the A-grade office building over 12 years with renewal options for a further 10 years.
The office building forms past of the mixed-used urban renewal project at the 6.4-hectare site, which will also include a Mirvac master-planned community and a retail component.
The leasing deal is good news for FKP, which recorded a fall in profits of 22% in the 2012 financial year, with Peter Brown to step down as managing director by February.
Goldman Sachs analyst Peter Zuk labelled the leasing commitment from BoQ as “positive” and revised its earnings estimates upwards.
In terms of potential profits, Zuk says FKP has not yet confirmed if it will take full development risk during the construction phase and look to sell the asset on completion or sell it on a "fund-through" basis like it has done on other office developments in the past, “whereby its potential realised profit will be lower, but at the same time reducing its development risk”.
Construction of the office tower is due commence this month, with completion expected in "late 2014", with an anticipated end value of $180 million.
The Gasworks project is bounded by the Brisbane River, Longland and Wyandra streets, Breakfast Creek Road and Waterloo, Gordon and Evelyn streets.

Bank of Queensland to anchor-tenant FKP office building at Gasworks development

The prices of Brisbane apartments increased by 2.3% over November to a median of $360,000, in contrast to a flat capital city housing market, according to the latest monthly update by RP Data-Rismark.
The gain over November means that Brisbane unit prices are now down just 0.8% year-on-year, delivering investors a total year-on-year return of 4.9%.
Brisbane unit investors are getting the second best rental return (alongside investors in Canberra units) across the eight capital cities, with a yield of 5.5%, with only Darwin higher at 6.6%.
The Brisbane detached housing market did not match unit price growth over the quarter, managing just 0.3% to a median of $435,000 to be up 0.4% year-on-year.
The RP Data-Rismark November index shows the eight capital city dwelling prices unchanged at a median of $472,500 – following 1% decline in October – with Canberra (1.3%), Darwin (1.1%) and Darwin (1%) the only capital city markets to record dwelling prices rises of 1% or more.

On a quarterly basis, most capital cities recorded a rise in dwelling values.
The largest capital gains were found in Darwin (3.1%), Perth (3.0%), Brisbane (0.8%) and Sydney (0.6%).
The only cities where values were down over the three months ending November were Canberra and Melbourne (both -0.7%) and Hobart (-4.5%). 
“Home values in Brisbane and Perth remain below where they were five years ago whereas the other mainland cities have all increased over this period," says RP Data senior research analyst Cameron Kusher.
“This has meant that relative to the other capital cities, Brisbane and Perth have experienced affordability improvements, and subsequently we may see them become more popular from both an owner-occupation and investment perspective."
Melbourne was the weakest capital city housing market over the month and the only to register a decline in its median prices, which fell 1% to a median of $486,000 while dwelling prices were unchanged in Sydney at $555,000.

Year-on-year, dwelling prices are virtually unchanged, indicating a housing market that continues to tread water, but with notable diversion in performance at an individual city level.
Darwin has been the strongest performer with total returns (capital growth plus rental returns) of 20%, followed by Perth (8%), Sydney (5.9%), Brisbane (5.1%) and Canberra (4.9%).
The soft Melbourne is delivering total returns of just 1.2%, compared with a capital city average of 4.2%, while Hobart is the only capital city delivering negative total returns of -2% due to dwelling prices down 7% over the past 12 months.
Kusher says the November market conditions highlight that the road to a market recovery will not be without pauses, and those cities that performed very strongly in 2009 and 2010, like Melbourne, may show continued weakness.
“Capital city home values remain -5.6% lower than their historic highs of 15 November 2010, but, up 2% from their low of late May 2012," he says.

Brisbane unit prices up 2.3% over November as capital city markets remain flat: RP Data-Rismark

If Harry Triguboff were governor of the Reserve Bank, the cash rate would fall to 2.25%, a setting that the Meriton boss believes would encourage first-home buyers back into the market in a meaningful way.
In another yarn with Business Spectator’s Robert Gottliebsen, Triguboff said first-home buyers were not as responsive to interest rate cuts as they were in the past primarily because it is still cheaper to rent in places like the outer suburbs of Sydney than buy.
He believes a quarter percentage point shaved from the cash rate, as the RBA is anticipated to announce tomorrow at its December monetary policy meeting, or even a 50 basis point cut, would have little impact on the decisions of first-home buyers.
First-home buyers will only buy a property when they know it will leave them better off financially every month – when mortgage repayments are lower than rental payments.
Triguboff calls this an unprecedented attitude and one which is being felt by all developers and builders especially across the eastern seaboard and one which they did not expect.

Rates need to fall a further 100 basis points to bring back first-home buyers: Harry Triguboff

If the economists and analysts are correct, this week we’ll be looking at another interest rate cut from the Reserve Bank. Millions of Australian home owners will feel relief on an expected 25-basis-point, but spare a thought for those who rely on the yield of cash assets to fund their retirements. If the cash rate drops to 3% they’ll be left to wonder how far the cash rate will fall in 2013 and whether they can live on these decreasing yields.
The average interest rate on bank deposits and term deposits was 3.5% at October 2012, according to the RBA.
If we agree that underlying inflation is running at around 2%, those living on cash yields are already vulnerable, before even this week’s supposed rate cut.
But depositors have one thing going for them: the banks need their money because it is cheaper than sourcing it from the capital markets. So the banks will compete for those deposits with good rates. You just have to be prepared to look and to act.
I’d start by being active about where your money is and how much it is earning. Make a habit of reading financial media and going to comparison sites such as Canstar or RateCity. Some of the best term deposit rates are 90-day deposits that turn over four times a year. So it pays to be more active.
If the rate offered on your savings account is dropping, look for higher paying alternatives. Don’t worry about having to leave the comfort of your own bank, because your bank may already offer a higher yielding money market account that goes by a name you are unaware of.
There are four main categories that cash investors can use.
Savings accounts: They pay low rates that are variable, have transactional capability at ATMs and branches, and are capital-guaranteed by the government.
Cash management/savings maximiser accounts: They pay higher rates than savings accounts but are also variable; they often lure people in with "honeymoon" rates for four to six months, are commonly online-only; they usually have rules about how many deposits/withdrawals each month, limiting their transactional capability. Also capital guaranteed by the government.
Term Deposits: They pay higher rates than savings accounts (Westpac’s 90-day TD is 4.3%; ING’s 180-day is 4.5%); they are fixed rate and fixed term, so you have no flexibility to withdraw the money during the investment period, but they are capital-guaranteed by the government.
Bond funds: They invest in the corporate and government bond markets, earn higher than TD yields, with very low risk; they pay retrospectively variable rates (same as a managed fund).
Investing in bonds is very low risk and produces yields well over 5%.
Your best way forward is to see an adviser. But if you can’t, commit to being more active with your cash investments and to become an expert on yield.
You can’t control interest rates, but you can decide where you money is invested.

What savers can do in the face of falling interest rates

The REIV has released data that reveals, for the first time, the suburbs where auctions are the main method of sale and those where private sales are.
This data, presented in an online clickable map, is an invaluable resource for all real estate agents and vendors.
The data will assist real estate agents and vendors as they make the decision about the most appropriate sales method for their property.
The maps clearly show that auctions are the most popular sales method in the inner city, while in the outer suburbs most sales are conducted privately. This in part explains why the median price of a home sold at auction is higher than one sold at private sale, as residential property is much more expensive in the inner suburbs.
While overall auction sales have represented around 22% of all sales in Melbourne this year, there are some suburbs with a higher number and some with less.
Suburbs where more than half the homes were sold by auction in 2011 included Elsternwick, Surrey Hills, Armadale, Richmond, Malvern, Northcote and Camberwell.
At the other end of the spectrum less than 5% of homes were sold by auction in Narree Warren, Werribee, Rowville, Craigieburn and Mooroolbark.
It is also the case that clearance rates tend to be higher in the suburbs where auctions are more prevalent.
Analysis of the data over 2010 and 2011 shows a clear trend towards private sales as the level of competition dropped. This highlights that auctions work better when there is a high level of demand, generally or for a specific property.
When teamed with data showing weekly clearance rates this information is an invaluable and unique resource for all those active in the residential real estate market. The<a href="https://www.reiv.com.au/Property-Research/Auction-Map.aspx" target="_blank"> maps are available on the REIV website.</a>

Three Canadian fashion retailers are swimming ashore to lease space in the $385 million redevelopment of Rundle Place on Rundle mall in the Adelaide CBD.
Rundle Place features 85 shops over 22,000 square metres of retail space running along Rundle Mall and is due to be completed in October next year, featuring a Harris Scarfe store and anchor-tenanted by Coles, along with a mix of other retailers and a 500-seat food court.
Point Zero – a Canadian brand name and manufacturer of chic and fashion forward apparel for men, women and children – is among the retailers.
Point Zero operates from more than 35 boutiques across Canada, has 920 shop-in-shops in department stores, and has opened franchises in Central and South America and the Middle East.
Joshua Perets was created in 2001 and is directed at the teen and tween market with undergarments to hoodies, jeans to perfume.
As of April 2012, Joshua Perets had 35 stores across Canada.
La Vie en Rose is a leading specialty lingerie retailer for women aged 25 to 54.
It has over 165 boutiques across Canada and expanded into the Middle East, Europe and Asia in 2004.
“We are very excited to open our first stores in a growing city like Adelaide,” says director of retail expansions for La Vie en Rose Joseph Waknine.
“Rundle Place has proven to be the right spot for us with the best mixture of national and international big brands,” says Waknine.
Rundle Place will also include an 10-storey commercial tower that is set to open in October 2013.
The tower has been preleased to the Adelaide Bank and Bendigo Bank.
Vacancy rates for Rundle mall rose in the third quarter of 2012 from 6.85% in June to 10.27% in September, according to a research report by Savills.
Rent in Rundle Mall range from $2,000 per square metre to $3,700 per square metre.
“The centre is now 95% leased and interest continues to be strong,” says Ilona Rose, project leasing manager from Rundle Place.
