Repeat buyers are one of the strongest measures of confidence in any apartment development.

At <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/new-apartments/era-newcastle-west-124-126-bull-street-newcastle-west-nsw-2302">ERA</a> in Newcastle West, some purchasers are returning to <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/gwh">GWH</a> after living at the developer's One Apartments. Their decision to purchase again was driven by the quality of life they found after moving into their first GWH home.

Keith Wilton had spent years living in a house in East Maitland before deciding it was time for a change. Apartment living had always been on his radar, but he was selective about what he wanted.

Keith points to the open-plan design, generous outdoor areas and considered inclusions as key reasons One Apartments worked for him.

“One of those things was a nice indoor open plan area, but also I wanted a nice outdoor open area that I could entertain on in summer or Christmases or birthdays,” he says.

He also found value in the smaller details, from integrated appliances to shared resident spaces including the pool, cinema and rooftop areas.

After comparing several developments, he chose One Apartments because of GWH's longstanding local reputation and his own experience working with the developer on a commercial project more than a decade earlier.

"I knew that they were local, that the quality of the build was going to be up there. I'd looked at other apartment complexes around and close by, and I just knew that here was a better decision location wise."

Today, Keith says the move has completely changed how he experiences Newcastle.

"I enjoy living in this location because it's more of a lifestyle change. That Newcastle city living where you can walk to restaurants and bars and even beaches and parks and even shopping across the road."

Beyond the location, he says it's the sense of community that has surprised him most.

"Everyone loves living here because they chose to live here, but everyone looks out for each other. It's a real great community feel here."

For Aimee and Lyle Goodman, the journey started almost by chance.

The couple happened to be having coffee in Newcastle when they noticed the site where One Apartments was about to begin construction.

"We were aware GWH was planning a development," Aimee says. "We made one phone call and things moved pretty quickly after that."

As busy business owners, they initially thought apartment living would simply reduce the maintenance that came with larger homes. Instead, it fundamentally changed how they spent time together.

"We actually catch up more as a family now," Aimee says.

"We've had homes with big yards and lots of space, but everyone ended up in different rooms. Here we'll have dinner together, the kids can play, and we spend far more quality time together."

Lyle says their confidence came from GWH's reputation within Newcastle's building industry.

"I know people who've worked across different apartment projects, and whenever GWH came up the feedback was always the same. They're rock solid. They're quality."

That confidence only grew throughout the buying process.

"One of the things that really impressed us with GWH was the whole process, was the communication," Lyle says. "It was consistent, it was regular, there was no problem if we had some weird questions, there was no problems in getting answers."

Aimee says one moment stood out.

"The project actually finished on time. We realised we needed to hurry up and sell our house because everything was happening exactly when they said it would."

Priced from $980,000 for two-bedroom residences and $1.46 million for three-bedroom residences, buyers can secure an apartment with a 10 per cent deposit, with premium homes offering ocean views from Level 8 and harbour views from Level 10.

From ONE to ERA: Why buyers are choosing GWH again in Newcastle West

Virgate Property Group is preparing to commence construction of Verdé, its new apartment development in Melbourne's Arts Precinct at Southbank, following a strong run of sales that has seen more than half of the project's 173 apartments secured.

Verdé has attracted a broad mix of first home buyers, owner-occupiers upgrading from nearby inner-city suburbs and investors, with younger owner-occupier couples aged between 28 and 45 accounting for the strongest enquiry. Virgate's Verdé Southbank moves toward construction as sales fly past halfway stage

Downsizer-focused apartment development Kooyongkoot in Hawthorn has been recognised at the 2026 Better Future Melbourne Design Awards, taking home Gold and Silver awards in two categories.

The dual recognition reflects the design approach behind the boutique development on prestigious Kooyongkoot Road, where the focus has been on creating homes for downsizers seeking the space, quality and functionality of a detached house within a low-rise apartment building.

Rather than maximising apartment numbers, <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/pqd">PQD</a> and <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/architects/cera-stribley-architects">Cera Stribley</a> limited the development to just 18 residences, allowing for larger floorplans, greater privacy, generous landscaping and expansive communal spaces.&nbsp;The majority of the apartments also benefit from corner aspects, allowing for dual sources of natural light.

The Silver Award for Architecture recognised the way the building responds to its prominent corner position at the ent​rance to Hawthorn's Scotch Hill precinct, one of Melbourne's most established residential neighbourhoods.

Rather than competing with the grand homes that line Kooyongkoot Road, the architectural approach focused on restraint and longevity, using curved brickwork, generous landscaping and carefully considered proportions to integrate with the existing streetscape.

"The form feels fluid and timeless, as though shaped by the landscape itself – architecture that belongs, rather than competes," said Chris Stribley, Co-Founder and Managing Principal of Cera Stribley.

The judging submission also highlighted practical innovations throughout the building, including lift cores servicing only nine homes each, a central landscaped lightcourt designed to bring daylight and ventilation into the building, and fully enclosed private storage rooms with lighting, power and shelving to better accommodate residents transitioning from larger family homes.

The Gold Award for Interior Design recognised the project's focus on long-term liveability rather than display-home aesthetics.

According to the awards submission, the interiors were designed from the inside out, prioritising how homes would function over decades of daily use through generous proportions, practical storage, durable natural materials and flexible layouts.

The specification includes natural stone throughout, upgraded acoustic glazing, V-ZUG appliances and fully enclosed storage rooms, alongside an amenity offering focused on wellness, entertainment and everyday convenience.&nbsp;

Residents will have access to a gym and yoga studio, a wellness centre featuring traditional and infrared saunas, a cold therapy shower and treatment room, as well as a residents' lounge and golf simulator/cinema room for entertainment.&nbsp;Kooyongkoot has also considered the everyday convenience of its residents by offering a private carwash and pet wash facilities on site as well as dedicated parcel lockers and oversized fully enclosed storage rooms.&nbsp;

The project's attention to detail has already resonated with buyers. Earlier this year, Kooyongkoot recorded one of Boroondara's highest apartment sales when an $8 million penthouse was purchased by a Melbourne CEO downsizing from a nearby family home.

"Every detail feels deliberate, from the overall design down to the smallest touches," the purchaser said.

"The level of quality and refinement is exceptional, but what really sold it was how liveable it felt... It felt like a place where everything had been considered, not just a luxury building."

Kooyongkoot wins Gold and Silver at Better Future Melbourne Design Awards

New apartment supply has become increasingly constrained across <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developments/parramatta-nsw-2150">Parramatta</a> in recent years, with fewer projects progressing through to completion as development conditions have become more challenging.

It makes <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/developers/novm">NOVM</a>'s 2021-completed <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/buildings/the-lennox-parramatta-12-phillip-street-parramatta-nsw-2150">The Lennox</a> one of the most recently completed residential towers on the Parramatta River, and among the newest apartment developments in Sydney's second CBD.

With the project largely completed before the sharp escalation in construction costs and inflation following the pandemic, The Lennox is now offering pricing that would be difficult to replicate in a comparable new development in Parramatta today, or across much of Western Sydney.

The majority of the 413 apartments at The Lennox sold before and shortly after completion. A limited release of the remaining apartments has recently been brought to market by capital partner <a href="https://www.apartments.com.au/project-marketer/equitifund-group">Equitifund</a>, with entry-level pricing from $700,000 and two-bedroom apartments available from under $1 million.

Australian housing and finance group Equitifund has secured the remaining apartments, believing there are few completed apartment opportunities in Parramatta that offer the same combination of location, amenity and pricing.

Equitifund National Sales Director Ben Hamblett says buyers are increasingly recognising that premium apartment living no longer needs to come with Sydney CBD pricing.

"The Lennox is where aspirational living becomes attainable," Hamblett said.

"Wake to river and mountain views, step into Sydney's Second CBD, and arrive home to resort-calibre amenities, all without the harbour price tag."

Hamblett says owner-occupiers are also attracted by the convenience of having Westfield Parramatta, Church Street's dining precinct, Parramatta Park, Riverside Theatres, Western Sydney University and major transport connections all within walking distance.

"At The Lennox, lifestyle is not an afterthought, it is the foundation."

The apartment price gap drawing Sydney buyers west

A luxury beachfront apartment at Rainbow Bay has more than doubled in value since it sold off the plan six years ago, setting a new local apartment record in the process.

The three-bedroom apartment in the Flow development on Petrie Street, the first of four new projects locally by Paul Gedoun's S&amp;S Projects, has sold for $7.4 million, after originally selling for $3.27 million when the project launched in 2020.

The seventh-floor apartment, comprising 187 sqm of internal living space and a 54 sqm balcony overlooking Froggies Beach and Snapper Rocks, was purchased by a local family.

The transaction was negotiated by Pezet Matheson director Kerry Pezet and equates to more than $30,000 per sqm.

Pezet said the sale reflected the limited opportunities to buy into the boutique beachfront development.

"The sale highlights the rarity of opportunities within the boutique beachfront development, where residences seldom become available," Pezet said.

"Flow is one of the Gold Coast's most tightly held buildings. Buyers from our database move quickly when residences become available, and achieving an off-market sale at $7.4 million demonstrates the depth of demand for property of this calibre."

Flow was the first of four luxury apartment developments delivered by Paul Gedoun's S&amp;S Projects at Rainbow Bay and was completed in 2023.

Positioned on the beachfront overlooking Snapper Rocks, the residence includes three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a powder room and views stretching north along the coastline towards Surfers Paradise.

Pezet Matheson Residential principal Mitchell Lambert said buyers continued to prioritise quality beachfront apartments in tightly held locations.

"Flow Residences offers a rare combination of elevated beachfront positioning, architectural excellence, comprehensive resident amenity and premium finishes, which is exactly what discerning purchasers are seeking," Lambert said.

"The transaction further reinforces Rainbow Bay's reputation as one of Australia's premier coastal lifestyle destinations, where limited supply and growing demand continue to support strong market performance."

Pezet Matheson originally marketed and sold out Flow off the plan, making the latest transaction a return to one of the project's original buyers.

Sydney’s property market is set to show signs of change in 2016 as the market moves into a ‘transitional’ phase, and I predict the following market trends for 2016.
Consistent property prices.  
Property prices remain quite consistent throughout 2016.  There’s strong speculation that the Reserve Bank will reduce interest rates again, but if they do, I personally don’t envisage the banks passing it on to consumers. We’ll see a continued decline in investors which will coincide with an increase in owner occupiers.  This is a very good long-term thing as it helps the market have a healthier balance.
More robust conversation on how to encourage first home buyers.  
Home ownership is ingrained into Australian DNA: It’s not an entitlement but it’s always been encouraged. I would be saddened to see that change as I want to see more young people on the property ladder and experience the same things as previous generations. 
The industry needs to focus on encouraging first home buyers to enter the market. Personally, I’m not convinced that throwing money at first home buyers through grants is the right way to go, nor am I convinced that allowing them to make purchases with their superannuation is the right way to go either. It will be nice to see some pressure applied to banks – for them to look at giving discounts or concessional rates to first home buyers. I would still love for first home buyers to continue to be offered deals with a five per cent deposit and a more competitive interest rate.
Developers to become nervous and less likely to take risks.  
We have seen a general sense of nervousness from developers recently so I hope to see a greater sense of balance around approvals as a result.  In 2015, we saw a lot of developments granted planning permission but I think heading into 2016 we will see them feel a bit of pain because some purchased their sites on such narrow margins. As market levels fall away slightly, some developers might struggle to cover costs.  
Towards the end of 2016 we might start to see some investors potentially walk away from their deposits because they perceive that they paid too much for it in 2015 and see that it’s no longer worth the risk. Personally, I see this as very much a knee-jerk reaction as most investments should be viewed with a long-term strategy in mind.
2016 will be the year that Chinese developers really arrive in Sydney – and they’re going to aggressively market their developments in mainland China. I have no problem with foreign developers coming in but there should be a quota of stock that must be sold to Australian residents.
Changes to lending rules will freeze out some investors.  
The early part of 2015 saw investors buying off-the-plan but as these developments start to take shape and bricks go into the ground. The recently introduced macroprudential measures will make it difficult for buyers to complete the purchase.  Investors might have committed to an off-the-plan purchase as their mortgage lender considered them qualified to borrow at the time, but when it comes to the buyer needing the finance, there will be changes to lending rules, which – I think – is unfair.
Going into 2016, mortgage lenders will start freezing out investors, as lenders actually don’t have an obligation to provide the finance. They will simply say that they can’t provide the finance on the original terms (say, a 5% deposit) and that now much more is needed. Lenders might have said yes on a certain date in principle but the framework of their in-principle agreement should carry through.
Under-supply of housing.  
I believe that while town planners and councils might be meeting their quota in terms of dwellings being built, they might not be the right dwellings for the demand.  In my opinion, a disproportionate level of apartments are currently under construction – and now that the investor boom is over, we have an issue.  Planners should take a responsible and sensible approach to what the demand looks like, and offer tangible solutions.  We have to be careful we don’t build too many units and apartments because it will rob some suburbs of their identity.
Furthermore, I believe that there is a huge density problem.  We know that Australians have more living space per capita than anywhere else in the world, so are apartments really what is needed?  You’re not going to have a family of five on the 32nd floor of a high rise, are you?  Now that the investor market is slowing down, I want to know who’s going to be buying because the stock being built does not necessarily correlate to demand.
Suburb desirability and price changes from council amalgamations.  
When councils amalgamate in 2016, certain suburbs will be impacted on more than others in their desirability and/or price.  Look at somewhere like Botany for example, all of a sudden it could become part of an enlarged eastern suburbs council. Of course it’s going to become a lot more desirable and expensive. 
On the flip side, look at what happened when the government tried to divide Mosman into five suburbs – the sentiment was so strong against it that the call was rejected.  You really need to think about what’s in a postcode, in a suburb, in a council area because there could certainly be an impact on desirability for the better or the worse.  Just look at the conversation about the Woollahra, Hunters Hill, Ryde and Lane Cove councils right now.
More disruptors, disintermediation and ‘uberisation’ – but unlikely to take off.  
More disruptors will try to enter the market and shake things up for real estate but that they will be less likely to survive in the new landscape. Disruptors are more likely to thrive in a strong seller’s market when vendors struggle to see value for money.  These start-ups might have all the key ingredients to disrupt the traditional model, but in a softer market, like the one we are transitioning into, these new players will struggle to succeed.
As the market returns to something that resembles an ‘everyday market’ in 2016, we will see a lot of agents leave the industry. Those who were in it for a quick buck will quickly realise that they now have to work for their money and this hopefully means that the quality and standard will improve across the board.  It’s a great opportunity to raise the bar for the next boom.  This will allow us to improve entry level education standards so it will be far more difficult for the fly- by-nights to get a job in the industry.
Sydney to become a spider’s web.  
I really think that we will start to see Sydney become more of a spider’s web in 2016.  Regions of Sydney have always been so disconnected but for the first time ever we will see a joining of the dots.  Some areas currently considered as outposts will benefit from the construction of four new metro train stations, the south-west rail link, and the development of eight new stations in the north-west.
To give credit where credit’s due, the planning of Sydney’s transport system has vastly improved. With the new developments underway, it’s going to open up some key suburbs and make them more desirable.  As transport infrastructure improves, we will slowly start to see the divide between east and west fade as a result of greater accessibility.  Starr Partners’ buying data already proves these divides are softening right across Sydney.
Semi-abandonment of the auction process.  
As the market grew more robust over the past year or so, more people opted for auctions, but as it softens, I anticipate that people will start walking away from the process.
As experts, agents need to start assessing the what, the why and the where, and what works best for the individual property and people involved rather than resolutely sticking to just the one method of sale.  In a strong market, vendors are very prepared to follow the auction path but when things soften or when clearance rates fall, we can expect a semi-abandonment of the auction process.

Liveable communities and resilient cities are buzzwords of the moment. But exactly how do you define a “liveable” community or city? Our research focuses on this exact question.
In an extensive review of liveability definitions used in academic and grey literature in Australia and internationally, we found some consistent factors. Critical factors for liveable communities are:
<ul>
<li>
residents feeling safe, socially connected and included;
</li>
<li>
environmental sustainability; and
</li>
<li>
access to affordable and diverse housing options linked via public transport, walking and cycling infrastructure to employment, education, local shops, public open space and parks, health and community services, leisure and culture.
</li>
</ul>
These are the essential ingredients for a liveable community. They are needed to promote health and wellbeing in individuals, build communities and support a sustainable society.
The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services agrees with our definition. It has been adopted in the recently released <a href="https://www.health.vic.gov.au/prevention/download/vphwp-final.pdf" target="_blank">Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2015-2019</a>. This plan provides the overarching framework to support and improve the health and wellbeing of all Victorians.
<h2>Liveability requires broad wellbeing</h2>
We live in an urbanising world. Cities are increasing in prominence as major social and economic hubs. For such cities, liveability rankings and awards can provide welcome global recognition and marketing tools.
Such rankings can operate to attract (or detract) people to a community. For example, many people will know Melbourne has been <a href="https://www.propertyobserver.com.au/https://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-08-18/melbourne-named-worlds-most-liveable-city-again/6705274">repeatedly voted</a> the “world’s most liveable city”. A key question is: liveable for whom?
While helpful at the broadest level, these rankings focus on the inner city, remuneration packages and economic productivity. The rankings mask intra-city inequities.
To overcome this, our definition of liveability considers the underlying conditions that support health. Our definition focuses on equity and recognition that where you live can predict health outcomes and life expectancy.
Location shapes life expectancy. The interactive <a href="https://www.californiamuseum.org/health-happens-here-california-museum" target="_blank">Health Happens Here</a> exhibition at the California Museum offers a great explanation of how many key factors beyond diet and exercise influence health.
We are creating liveability indicators that are linked to urban, transport and infrastructure planning policy. This is guided by our understanding that health is influenced by individual personal factors, social and community supports and broader socioeconomic, cultural and environmental conditions. These <a href="https://econpapers.repec.org/paper/hhsifswps/2007_5f014.htm">conditions include</a> housing, education, workplaces and access to services.
Developing these liveability indicators is a key component of our research at the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Healthy Liveable Communities led by the McCaughey VicHealth Community Wellbeing Unit at the University of Melbourne. The policy-focused research is governed by advisory groups in Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland and links evidence to state-based policies and practice.
In Victoria, liveability indicators developed through our research are made freely available to all members of the community through Community Indicators Victoria. This supports the democratisation of data, engagement and measuring progress in communities.
<h2>Designing cities for good health</h2>
We need to build cities based on a clear and consistent definition of liveability. The goal is that it can be objectively measured and tracked over time using indicators that provide an understanding of each city’s strengths and challenges.
Our definition is not values-free: it is guided by the view that cities must be designed to promote health.
A city built well is a healthy city that provides all residents (not just the fortunate few) with opportunities to live in areas with all the essential ingredients of a liveable community. It is a place that promotes healthy and happy people and community wellbeing – a place where people want to live.
A more liveable city is a great place to live. It is more resilient as well, with competitive social, economic and environmental advantages. Using our definition, a liveable city is also a healthy city, promoting health, wellbeing and equity.
This would be an excellent outcome for all Australians and all government ministries. Let’s hope our new federal minister for cities and the built environment is listening.

Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett and his wife, Kylie have bought in Manly heartland as the club heads into its 70th anniversary year.
It was a fairly even price swap following the sale of their Shellharbour district home three months ago.
The couple spent $2.41 million at Freshwater through Sweetnams, which is just $10,000 more than the $2.4 million they secured in their record Barrack Point sale.
That listing came just before Barrett was appointed to replace Geoff Toovey after the Sea Eagles finished out of the NRL finals race for the first time in a decade.
The Barrett's had paid $904,000 for the oceanfront reserve house in 2004.

Melbourne's auction success rate hovers in the mid 60s: REIV

Buyers of DUO in Central Park have shown a strong appetite for internationally designed apartments close to the Sydney CBD, with Frasers Property Australia and Sekisui House Australia achieving over $229 million in sales at the recent launch.
Frasers marketing director Paul Lowe said they experienced strong sales and interest for the three-bedroom dual-key apartments in <a href="https://www.centralparksydney.com/" target="_blank">DUO</a> which were offered for the first time ever at Central Park. 
"Dual-key apartments are a unique product type in the market and have proven to be ideal for investors wanting to stay in one apartment and lease the other one out, as well as growing families who desire space and flexibility in apartment living," he said.
The remaining three bedroom dual-key apartments apartments are available from $1.93 million in the next apartment block <a href="/expert-insights/buying/central-parks-duo-to-offer-dual-key-apartment-options">in Central Park</a>.
They started at $1.78 million at pre-sale in the building which was designed by internationally acclaimed architects Foster + Partners.
A dual-key property is just one property, with a single front entrance, living room, bathroom, kitchen and one or two bedrooms.
The difference then comes in. A dual key property has an additional dwelling inside, usually an extra bedroom with its own lock door at the front door lobby.
Behind the lock door is a studio apartment with its own small kitchen and additional bathroom.
Dual-key properties allow one space to be shared by two separate tenants or members of an extended family.
They are a fairly recent emergence in Sydney; however they have existed for decades in places such as Sweden, Japan and the United States.
Meriton’s 2002 Trafalgar in Sydney included 12 dual-key apartments, all of which contain a two-bedroom apartment and a studio accessed by a common door, but separated once inside.
According to investment advisers dual-key apartments offer investors higher rental yield by splitting the apartment for separate occupants.

Duo, Central Park finds strong dual-key buyer demand

If there's one thing I've learnt from developing property, it's that you definitely need a 'can do' attitude.
This week, I've come across so many 'can do' people that it's inspired me to write about them.
So what's the definition of 'can do'?  It's basically, when everything goes to shit and things seem totally not doable, then a person with a 'can do' attitude always finds a way.  So today, this goes out to the many people who've I've crossed paths with and who've reminded me of how we really can achieve anything we put our minds and hearts to.
Meet Bob from Port Macquarie, he's an older gentleman who has been emailing me for the past five years on and off. Every now and then I'll get a message from Bob. He may be responding to one of my Property Observer stories or our newsletters, but he always asks different questions. Well, this week Bob decided to take a big step and to be the property developer he'd wanted to for some time. His purpose?  Well, it is to use the equity he creates to help his daughter buy her first property.
Then there's my step daughter who rang me today to tell me that whilst planning her thirtieth birthday party she'd also set herself the goal to buy her fourth investment property by the time she turns thirty. Her birthday is in May 2016 and my heart sang as she described the type of property she's looking for.  Go girl, you have the 'can do' attitude.
This goes out to a dynamic young couple who called my just a week ago and who were so focussed they made calculated decisions to be able to secure their development site within a week and are now Property Bloom clients. They explained they have their sites set on building their wealth quickly and they've asked me to find their next site soon. Did I mention they also have seven dual occupancy projects underway in Queensland?
This goes out to my little brother who celebrated twenty-five years in the NSW Police Force this week and whom I proudly watched being awarded special things from Commissioner Scipione. His focus and hard work has seen him rise through the ranks, raise a family and build their dream home.
This goes out to the client who was recently turned away from the four big banks, despite being on a $300,000 plus salary because of the ridiculous changes in their serviceability calculators. I referred him to Rams who more than welcomed his business and gladly offered him the finance he wanted for his development project with Property Bloom.
This goes out to my project manager who after approaching many lenders has used creative strategies to source finance for her first development project.  She has drive and determination which comes from her desire to become financially independent.
This goes out to my builder and the amazing staff who always use the 'can do' attitude which means we'll be completing many of our development projects before Santa arrives this year.
Finally, this goes out to all of you reading this who refuse to let life's ups and downs stop you from driving forward with your goals and dreams. You all have the 'can do' spirit. As the famous Walt Disney said "If you can dream it, you can do it."

Top floor nest up for grabs in Perth’s premier legal hub

Prominent downsizing company directors, Origin Energy's Dr Helen Nugent and TransGrid Michael Nugent have finally secured a buyer for their Bellevue Hill trophy home.
The Michael Suttor-designed residence set in manicured Italianate gardens with a copper-domed Roman cupola next to the pool and tennis court had $15 million plus hopes. 
Their Victoria Road property with Michael Love interiors had been <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-bellevue+hill-119617975" target="_blank">listed by Alison Coopes’ Agency by Alison Coopes in April</a>.
The couple bought the property when they moved to Sydney from Melbourne 25 years ago paying $4.25 million in 1990 to the property developer Garry Rothwell's Winten Group who had outlaid $2.7 million less than a year earlier.
The Nugent's 1885 South Yarra abode, Raveloe had sold for $2.5 million in 1990 to the shelf company precurser to Starch Australasia.
In 1994 Michael Nugent entirely wiped his $2.4 million Bellevue Hill mortgage after Goodman Fielder's $5.4 million redundancy payout, but another mortgage was taken in 2000.
After stepping down last year from Macquarie Group, Helen's board duties include Australian credit reference agency Veda and Funds SA. Michael's were lightened this month after stepping down from Murrumbidgee Irrigation, one of the largest private irrigation companies in Australia serving over 3,200 landholdings owned by over 2,500 customers within an area of 660,000 hectares.

Buyer found for Bellevue Hill trophy home

First home buyers may be encouraged to come back into the market, helped by tough regulations on investors, falling values and projects targeted towards FHBs. 
Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics reveals first home buyers numbers are rising, with an 8.5% increase in their applications for home loans in September.
At the same time, the number of investors in the market has dropped. 
The amount first home buyers are borrowing is also on the increase, according to ABS figures which shows the average loan to an FHB was $351,800, up $2500 on the previous month.
However, in original terms, the number of first home buyer commitments as a percentage of total owner occupied housing finance commitments fell to 15.4% in September 2015 from 15.8% in August.
