When Antoinette Chan and her architect husband, Peter began casually searching for an investment property, they weren’t expecting it to evolve into a life-changing family decision.

Lendlease's Tower One in Barangaroo breaks price per sqm record in $140 million sale

The penthouse on the top level of Domain Park, designed by the celebrated architect Robin Boyd in the 1960s, has sold for $7.6 million, reflecting $46,000 per square metre.
The unrenovated 20th level apartment, which had a reserve of $5.1 million, sold at $44,000 per square metre as two bidders battled it out at its recent private auction.
Marshall White Stonnington agents Dean Gilbert and Mark Harris had a $4.55 million to $5,005,000 guide.
The Domain Park Flats was the first apartment building Boyd designed.
At the time it completed, it was the tallest residential building in Victoria.
The first residents of Domain Park Flats moved in in 1962.
The north-west facing apartment with views over the Botanic Gardens to Albert Park Lake features the original separate kitchen.
There are three bedrooms and just the one bathroom.
Buyers agent Mal James advised he "couldn’t see the freight at $5,000,000".
"$5,000,000 meant the asking price for the shell only was $30,300 per square metres for the 165 square metres," James advised.
"It’s not worth $30,300 per square metre when the best brand new apartments are trying it on at $25,000 per square metre."

Robin Boyd's most coveted penthouse sold for $7.6 million in South Yarra

The two level penthouse crowning one of the modern blocks on Elizabeth Bay's Billyard Avenue dress circle has been sold by fund manager Michael Hill.
The penthouse was set to go to Cooley Auction last night, but was withdrawn with auctioneer Damien Cooley advising the near empty auction room that there had been "offer and acceptance."
No sale price advisory was given on the offering which was listed with $14 million hopes by Clint Ballard at Ballard Property Group.

The apartment, atop the Burley Katon Halliday-designed block, dates back two decades. It has five bedrooms and six bathrooms across its 425 sqm of internal space.
It features 375 sqm of wrap around balconies and terraces with views over the boat-filled harbour.
The development was completed in the late 1990s after East Asia Property Group paid $8.5 million for Cardigan, the waterfront mansion of solicitor Cedric Symonds and his socialite wife Elizabeth.
They knocked down the building in 1996 and replaced it with a six apartment development with a pool and private jetty.
The penthouse first traded for $7.1 million in 2001, three years after its completion. It was bought by David Wilkenfield, a ballet clothing manufacturer.

He doubled his money in five years, selling for $14 million in 2006 to Hal Herron, the former Deutsche banker.
Herron wasn't so lucky however and sold at a $2 million loss, selling to Investec Bank chairman David Gonski for $12 million in 2012.
Gonski only held the apartment for two years before its $12.5 million in 2014 sale.
The last sale in the tightly held block was three years ago when Anthony Hourigan and Monique D'Arcy Irvine from the recruitment company, Hourigan International, bought the third level apartment for $7 million.

Chinese billionaire Zetian Zhang, also known as “Sister Milk Tea”, has taken a $2.7 million loss on her prized three-level 598sq m penthouse atop the Stamford Residences in Gloucester Street, The Rocks.
The leasehold penthouse was reportedly offloaded through Richard Shalhoub, of Sydney Sotheby’s, who had overseen the marketing price adjustment to $15 million late last year.
However despite the January 17 settlement, <a href="https://www.sothebysrealty.com/eng/sales/detail/180-l-84001-reqys2/28a-171-gloucester-street-sydney-sydney-sw" target="_blank">the listing</a> for 28A/171 Gloucester Street still mysteriously appears as for sale on the agency website.

Standard industry practice is that a property that has sold is then either moved to sold or removed from the listing website within 72 hours, as being kept in the buy section of websites is commonly viewed as a breach of the acceptable industry policy.   
The settlement paperwork obtained by Property Observer indicates it sold for $13.5 million to hotelier Ramy Arnaout and his wife Nadia, under a company name.

A luxury non-beachfront penthouse on the Gold Coast’s Millionaire’s Row has been sold for $5.25 million within two weeks of hitting the market.
Former Carlton Football Club director and developer Colin De Lutis, whose family real estate empire is reportedly worth more than $500 million, flew up to inspect the two-level Mermaid Beach penthouse as soon as he got the call it was on the market.
He made a cash unconditional offer of $5.25 million only hours later for the 758 square metres space.
The Hedges 252 penthouse includes beach views, a glass lift, roof terrace and a 15-metre heated lap pool
De Lutis already owns an apartment in the Paradise Centre at Surfers Paradise
The penthouse sold 18 months ago when former Coles boss John Fletcher sold it at a $1.9 million loss.
Records show Fletcher paid $6.7 million in 2007 at the height of the boom but sold for $4.8 million in 2016.
Tolemy Stevens, the selling agent advised close to $100,000 on improvements had been spent on the residence in the interim.

Ron Bakir, the property development company owner Ron Bakir has secured the sale of his Gold Coast penthouse, selling the palatial Surfers Paradise apartment for a record $9.5 million.

The sale of the 39th-floor Chevron Renaissance apartment tops the city’s previous penthouse high of $9.2 million, set six years ago when Melbourne builder Peter Devitt bought in Main Beach’s Liberty Panorama tower.
It sold to an an undisclosed Gold Coast resident.

Ron Bakir's record $9.5 million Surfers Paradise penthouse sale

The final penthouse at luxury Roseville development, The Uptown, a joint venture between Chinese developers CWG Development and Longton Capital, has achieved the highest apartment sale price in the suburb for nearly two and a half years.
The $1.845 million sale saw a local North Shore buyer snap up the three-bedroom, three-bathroom fourth-floor penthouse residence.
Located at 1-31 Victoria St, Roseville, The Uptown is a medium-density development comprising 220 apartments across six buildings set on 1.3 hectares.
The sale confirms the ongoing interest from local owner-occupiers in The Uptown, according to Winnie Pi, Executive Director of Longton Capital.

The penthoused featured a raised ceiling section called The Clerestory, which gives an added feeling of space.
“With heights ranging from approximately 3100mm to 3400mm, these raised ceilings set the penthouses apart and make them a highly sought-after option for buyers seeking something extra.”
Jennifer Loh, Head of Sales &amp; Marketing for CWG Development, said buyers could secure the remaining 10 apartments ahead of the project’s pending delivery date in November.
Of the remaining apartments at The Uptown, one-bedroom plus study configurations are available from $860,000, while two bedrooms start from $1,210,000.
The project was designed by MD+A Architects and with interiors by Archer + Wright.
