The Old Bank, the historic Mittagong property in the Southern Highlands, has been listed for sale after its decade long restoration.
The <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-mittagong-130730858" target="_blank">property at 83 Main Street</a> has been acting as The Old Bank Hotel, but is now being offered as the potential to become a grand family residence.
Some 80 years after the settlement of Mittagong in the 1820s, the Southern Highlands town became home to many industries.
Following the 1867 completion of the railway line from Sydney, Mittagong became a gateway to the southern area and beyond, leading to the development of a tourist trade with inns, hotels, guest houses and shops becoming prevalent. 
The Commercial Banking Company occupied Waratah Cottage in the 1880s before relocating to Victoria House, some 500 metres away, before moving to the current property that was to be known as The Old Bank.

The longtime childcare operator Marty Downs has seized the burgeoning demand for upmarket food and alcohol outlets with several strategic investments totalling close to $16 million in the past three years.
Last month he added the historic 1922 Bundanoon Hotel with the 60-room Tudor-style hotel on two hectares now set for a serious makeover.
Downs works with hotelier Peter Dean in their joint Southern Highlands Pub Group venture. They have H&amp;E Architects plans to expand the Royal Hotel Bowral after Downs outlaid $2.25 million.
Downs, who owns Trungley Stud, gets around in his Bentley.

The architects Chris Grinham and Glenn Cunnington and Dean, whose has family has links to the Eastern suburbs drinking hole, The Lord Dudley, have been tasked with turning underperforming pub grub hotels in thriving outlets where the aim is having customers see the space as an extension of their cosy yet vast living rooms.

Former Hoyts CEO Peter Ivany secures Autumn Park at Mittagong

A Southern Highlands heritage property, The Manse, built in 1890 as part of the Presbyterian Church, Mittagong has been sold at auction this month 
The <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-nsw-mittagong-128929706" target="_blank">3 Alice Street </a>property has been restored and transformed into a four bedroom home.
It was sold at auction through Di Jones for $985,000.
The new owners were attracted to the original features of the home which has a beautiful entry hall with fretwork and chandelier, as well as wide original Kauri timber floorboards.
The 828 square metre home, with one bathroom, last sold for 425,000 just under six years ago.
Set behind an old iron gate, it is located within a short drive from shops, cafes and schools, as well as being within walking distance to Lake Alexandra.
The Manse was purchased by a Sydney buyer, confirming a recent trend of 73% of Mittagong buyers coming from out of the area, according to Di Jones auctioneer Josh Larsen.

Autumn Park, the luxury Mittagong retreat, has sold following its transformation by Sydney northern beaches architect Mike Hale.
It had a price tag of $5 million, which if achieved, would be the highest price paid in the small Southern Highlands grazing district in seven years.
Hale's renovation and extension came in 2015 costing well over $800,000.
The re-imagined rustic brick barn with old wharf timbers is now a cutting edge home with a contemporary butterfly roofed pavilion extension.

The Kellyville-based couple are best known for their charitable exploits for Variety, taking part in every four wheel drive adventure since the event began.
They paid $2.8 million for the 5.8 hectare property which was owned by the Garrett's for over two decades.
Built between 1908-1910, they renovated the Queen Anne Federation home, adding a tennis court, cricket pitch and separate guest cottage.
Enclosed by a wide wrap around verandah, it comprises four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two studies, formal living room with open fireplace and bay window.
There's also a charming guest cottage with full bathroom and large loft accommodation which houses a north facing office.
It was initially listed with $3.3 million hopes through Drew Lindsay Real Estate, however the asking price was reduced to $2.95 million.

Peter Garrett sells to the Friends

Mittagong's The Old Bank, known to most who've passed through the Southern Highlands town, has been listed for sale.
Constructed in 1892, the property was dilapidated until Barbara Whitehouse and Warwick Wainberg of Canyonleigh bought it in 2008.
The new owners, who'd previously development properties and worked in the hospitality industry, went about <a href="https://www.realcommercial.com.au/property-hotel+leisure-nsw-mittagong-502049538" target="_blank">renovating the Main Street building</a>.
Still featuring its period detailing, the property has eight bedrooms, each with ensuites, a total of nine bathrooms and secure parking for eight cars.
Colliers listing agents Deborah Cullen and Richard School are listening to expressions of interest.
They offered some uses for the building, suggesting it can be used as a residential home, restaurant, boutique hotel, bed and breakfast, corporate headquarters or a club.
