The enormity of delivering a true skyscraper in Australia's new development market is often overlooked.

It has taken the best part of a decade since plans for Chevron One were first unveiled, but the 52-storey tower is now complete, with residents collecting their keys and moving into what has become one of the Gold Coast's most recognisable new landmarks.

Rising 127 metres above Chevron Island, Chevron One stands almost twice as high as any other building on the island. Its scale places it alongside the trio of towers at Jewel, arguably the last truly significant addition to the central Gold Coast skyline when they were completed around six years ago.

While there are several developments underway around a similar height to Chevron One, they are more concentrated within clusters of the highest towers in the city. The fact Chevron One sits within a developing precinct, looking back at the other high-rise developments in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, makes it a different proposition altogether. It will certainly become a reference point on the Gold Coast skyline.

Developer Bensons Property Group is behind the 52-storey tower, which has just shy of 250 apartments, along with an exhaustive list of resident amenity spread across what is the largest development site ever assembled on Chevron Island.

The tower has been the talk of the town for years, says Ray White Projects Gold Coast agent Caitlin Rosenboom, who is selling the remaining apartments.

"People have been watching Chevron One go up for years," Rosenboom says, adding that many prospective buyers have been surprised by the scale of the views once they step inside.

"It's only when they walk through a completed apartment that they truly understand the position of the building," Rosenboom says.

"The views are jaw-dropping. Whether you're looking east over the ocean, across Surfers Paradise, along the river systems or out to the hinterland, every level offers something different but equally impressive."

While new apartment developments continue to emerge across the Gold Coast, Rosenboom says opportunities to secure a completed apartment with this level of outlook are becoming increasingly rare.

"The size of the site is something that would be incredibly difficult to replicate today," she says.

"That's allowed Chevron One to deliver the sort of amenity, open space and resident facilities that very few projects can offer. There are not many completed apartment buildings on the Gold Coast right now that can compete with the combination of scale, quality and amenity."

There's around 2,000 sqm of amenity solely for the use of residents of Chevron One. Club One features a uniquely shaped swimming pool that mirrors the footprint of the building itself, set within a extensively landscaped gardens. Professional surfer Owen Wright is selling Ahimsa, his redundant tree-change Berry district retreat.
The Culburra Beach-born wave rider used the property as his refuge while he was recovering from a career-threatening injury.
In late 2015 Wright suffered a traumatic brain injury just before the Pipeline Masters event in Hawaii.
Wright has listed his tree-change escape at Brogers Creek Road, Brogers Creek, since he has moved to the north coast of NSW, where he lives with partner, singer Kita Alexander, and their son.
The property offers privacy, views and private creek frontage.
The one-bedroom home sits in a cleared patch on the 2.39 hectare holding, with a full wall of bi-fold doors opening out to the large ironbark deck.
The kitchen offers a servery window on to the covered deck area.
Even the shower can be open to the outdoors.
Other than the cleared land around the house, the rest of the property is natural rainforest.
Wright, who purchased the Brogers Creek property in 2016 for $765,000, has called it his “little piece of heaven on earth”.
It’s also been used by his sister, fellow professional surfer Tyler.

The nearby property Boya, a late 1990s, one-bedroom 55sqm house on 8.6 hectares on Wattamolla Road, Woodhill, sold for $1,370,000 last month.
In early 2017, Wright made a return to professional competition, 15 months on from the head injury.
Wright also owns a three-bedroom apartment in Thirroul, which he bought for $605,000 in 2012.
He has owned in Byron Bay since 2010, when he paid $975,000 for a 1930s Federation home, architecturally designed by Running Dog Design.

Surfer Owen Wright lists Berry district retreat

The Channel Nine chief executive Hugh Marks has spent $4.075 million for a retreat in the Berry hinterland.
It comes as he is announced to lead the Nine-Fairfax merged media company which sees Nine own 51.1% and the weakened Fairfax at 48.9%. 
The family's Shoalhaven weekender is a contemporary, architect-designed residence at Broughton Vale.
Yeramba is set on 40 hectares with about half cleared for livestock.
Much of the rest is natural bushland with a permanent creek, waterfall and rock pools.
It was sold by former NEC and Hewlett-Packard boss Alan Hyde and his wife Joanne.
The marketing of the TDDP Architects-designed home indicated it was "developed on ecological and sustainable principles."
Nick Dale of Belle Property Berry secured the $4.075 million sale. 
The Berry district residential price record was set at $4.75 million last December when Bond University chancellor Annabelle Bennett and her husband <a href="/news/former-solicitor-general-of-australia-david-bennett-buys-berry-weekender">David Bennett, QC</a>, bought a 20-hectare retreat from a Macquarie Group executive.
Marks, who was appointed to Nine’s top job in late-2015, has been appointed as the next chief of the Nine Fairfax merged media entity under the chairmanship of Peter Costello.
Mark advised the merged "marks a truly momentous development for Nine’s future."
The existing Nine television and digital businesses, to be known as NEC will become the proprietor of the historic Fairfax mastheads as well as the new majority owner of Domain (60%) and the Macquarie Radio Network (54.5%). 
The transaction Nine will also move to 100% ownership of Stan.
His property purchase, without the precise price, was revealed last weekend by Fairfax Media.
He has been based in Artarmon where he bought his Californian bungalow for $765,000 in 1998.
Last year he spent $2,015,000 on a three-bedroom investment <a href="/news/channel-nine-boss-hugh-marks-buys-neutral-bay-pad">Neutral Bay</a> pad.

The couple been buying and selling at Kirribilli and recently sold their former Berry home to upgrade.

The Quinn's paid $710,000 for the 1880s country weatherboard.
It has since been restored the heritage home.
The four bedroom quintessential cottage sits in 1070 square metres of gardens.
Carrie Bond at South Coast Properties agent secured the quick sale, though without revealing its sale price.
She described the home as one of the historic village's finest residences, having once accomodated Australian nun Mary McKillop.
Up in Sydney the couple's renovated two bedroom Kirribilli home has been quickly sold too, fetching $3.45 million, just over a year after they paid $2.6 million.
