Keith Wilton had spent years living in a house in East Maitland before deciding it was time for a change. Apartment living had always been on his radar, but he was selective about what he wanted.

Today, Keith says the move has completely changed how he experiences Newcastle.

For Aimee and Lyle Goodman, the journey started almost by chance.

"We were aware GWH was planning a development," Aimee says. "We made one phone call and things moved pretty quickly after that."

"We actually catch up more as a family now," Aimee says.

The judging submission also highlighted practical innovations throughout the building, including lift cores servicing only nine homes each, a central landscaped lightcourt designed to bring daylight and ventilation into the building, and fully enclosed private storage rooms with lighting, power and shelving to better accommodate residents transitioning from larger family homes.

The Gold Award for Interior Design recognised the project's focus on long-term liveability rather than display-home aesthetics.

According to the awards submission, the interiors were designed from the inside out, prioritising how homes would function over decades of daily use through generous proportions, practical storage, durable natural materials and flexible layouts.

The specification includes natural stone throughout, upgraded acoustic glazing, V-ZUG appliances and fully enclosed storage rooms, alongside an amenity offering focused on wellness, entertainment and everyday convenience.&nbsp;

The apartment price gap drawing Sydney buyers west

A luxury beachfront apartment at Rainbow Bay has more than doubled in value since it sold off the plan six years ago, setting a new local apartment record in the process.

The three-bedroom apartment in the Flow development on Petrie Street, the first of four new projects locally by Paul Gedoun's S&amp;S Projects, has sold for $7.4 million, after originally selling for $3.27 million when the project launched in 2020.

The seventh-floor apartment, comprising 187 sqm of internal living space and a 54 sqm balcony overlooking Froggies Beach and Snapper Rocks, was purchased by a local family.

The transaction was negotiated by Pezet Matheson director Kerry Pezet and equates to more than $30,000 per sqm.

Pezet said the sale reflected the limited opportunities to buy into the boutique beachfront development.

"The sale highlights the rarity of opportunities within the boutique beachfront development, where residences seldom become available," Pezet said.

"Flow is one of the Gold Coast's most tightly held buildings. Buyers from our database move quickly when residences become available, and achieving an off-market sale at $7.4 million demonstrates the depth of demand for property of this calibre."

Hotel Palisade in Sydney’s Millers Point has sold to an investment firm for $31.5 million, as hotel transactions keep up their brisk pace in 2017.
The property is in one of the most historic parts of Sydney close to two of the city’s oldest pubs, the Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel and Hero of Waterloo Hotel as well as the Millers Point terrace houses, which are currently being sold off to wealthy occupiers and investors.
The freehold property was sold to First Master Capital, according to hospitality news website The Shout. It is an Epping based company with Chinese born director, Xin He.
Earlier, the Clovelly Hotel in Sydney’s eastern suburbs changed hands for $34 million, while another waterfront pub, the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay, fetched $70 million.
Hotel Palisade was renovated and reopened in late 2015, and enjoys views of Sydney’s Harbour and surrounding areas.
The renovation saw eight boutique accommodation rooms added plus a ground floor public bar, the rooftop Henry Deane Bar and Restaurant as well as some private function rooms.
The property went to the market with expectations of more than $30 million.
The hotel is perched above The Rocks and overlooks Barangaroo Reserve as the multi-storey hotel was originally bought last May by Richard Sapsford, a British entrepreneur, who paid $20 million for it.
He then spent a further $5 million restoring the 1915-built property into a botique hotel and public bar after spending eight years vacant.
In November, the hotel unveiled the Henry Deane rooftop bar and restaurant.
The selling agents were John Musca and Peter Harper of JLL Hotels.

Cape Cod-style Broadbeach Waters trophy home listed

The Northwood home of the the late Australian artist Lloyd Rees has been listed for sale.
The studio below <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-northwood-126946806" target="_blank">his Northwood home</a> remained untouched since his 1988 death until the Art Gallery of NSW recently removed the studio’s contents for posterity.
It is Rees’ son Alan Rees and his wife Jan who have decided to sell the family home.
Rees had bought the Cliff Road block in 1934 for £300, and designed the Italianate villa-style house as his family home.
Rees and his wife Marjory lived there until 1986 when they moved to Tasmania. Marjory died soon after and Lloyd died two years later.
The property is registered for its historic significance with Lane Cove Council.
There is a price guide of $2.2 million ahead of its December 2 auction.

Late artist Lloyd Rees' Northwood home listed

A striking home in Victoria built to replicate the former Freeburgh Hall which was demolished has been listed for sale.
It was 2006 when the town hall in Freeburgh, in the upper reaches of the Ovens Valley, was demolished after termites wreaked havoc with the structure.
A new community centre building nearby was built.
Local builder Matt Burgess of Freeburgh Builders felt he must purchase the hall and its site to ensure the original hall wasn’t replaced with a new structure that would be unsympathetic to the original building and its purpose.
For someone who has lived in the local area for almost all his life Burgess says that using the hall site appropriately was also a matter of personal pride.
He purchased the site in 2012 with the old hall still standing but in derelict condition and he has recently completed the construction of a new landmark home on the site at 949 Great Alpine Road.
The hall site has an area of 2,225 square metres, or just over half an acre of undredged land, and is about 250 metres distant or an easy walk from the Ovens River. 
The site also has a number of heritage trees thought to have been planted at least fifty years ago, including two Californian Redwoods and three Liquid Ambers that Burgess also wanted to retain as their seasonal foliage changes are striking.
The house that Burgess built to replicate the style and theme of the original Freeburgh Hall has only been <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-freeburgh-126796242" target="_blank">completed in recent months</a> and is now listed for private sale by the local Bright office of Dickens Real Estate.
With an asking price of $820,000 it has an area under roof of approximately 200 sqm.

The replicated features include large living, dining and bedroom spaces and a high-quality kitchen located on a platform at one end of the new structure that reflects the plan of many original public halls.
The walls of the striking building that is timber framed on a heated concrete slab are generally 5.3 metres in height and the ceilings are timber lined like most original halls.
Three of the four bedrooms are queen-sized with the extra- large master bedroom having a very large en suite and all services with an adjacent personal space.
The entire building enjoys magnificent natural light through the choice of windows and their placement and has a striking entry portico like the halls of old.
Burgess also included a prominent rammed earth internal wall as the backdrop to the fireplace for its ability to retain warmth and ensure comfort for the rest of the building, particularly in the winter in this sub-alpine location.
The building is set back from the roadway and the only structure remaining from the original hall is the old clay brick chimney and fireplace.
