Keith Wilton had spent years living in a house in East Maitland before deciding it was time for a change. Apartment living had always been on his radar, but he was selective about what he wanted.

“One of those things was a nice indoor open plan area, but also I wanted a nice outdoor open area that I could entertain on in summer or Christmases or birthdays,” he says.

Today, Keith says the move has completely changed how he experiences Newcastle.

For Aimee and Lyle Goodman, the journey started almost by chance.

"We were aware GWH was planning a development," Aimee says. "We made one phone call and things moved pretty quickly after that."

"We actually catch up more as a family now," Aimee says.

Downsizer-focused apartment development Kooyongkoot in Hawthorn has been recognised at the 2026 Better Future Melbourne Design Awards, taking home Gold and Silver awards in two categories.

The judging submission also highlighted practical innovations throughout the building, including lift cores servicing only nine homes each, a central landscaped lightcourt designed to bring daylight and ventilation into the building, and fully enclosed private storage rooms with lighting, power and shelving to better accommodate residents transitioning from larger family homes.

The Gold Award for Interior Design recognised the project's focus on long-term liveability rather than display-home aesthetics.

According to the awards submission, the interiors were designed from the inside out, prioritising how homes would function over decades of daily use through generous proportions, practical storage, durable natural materials and flexible layouts.

The specification includes natural stone throughout, upgraded acoustic glazing, V-ZUG appliances and fully enclosed storage rooms, alongside an amenity offering focused on wellness, entertainment and everyday convenience.&nbsp;

The apartment price gap drawing Sydney buyers west

A luxury beachfront apartment at Rainbow Bay has more than doubled in value since it sold off the plan six years ago, setting a new local apartment record in the process.

The three-bedroom apartment in the Flow development on Petrie Street, the first of four new projects locally by Paul Gedoun's S&amp;S Projects, has sold for $7.4 million, after originally selling for $3.27 million when the project launched in 2020.

The seventh-floor apartment, comprising 187 sqm of internal living space and a 54 sqm balcony overlooking Froggies Beach and Snapper Rocks, was purchased by a local family.

The transaction was negotiated by Pezet Matheson director Kerry Pezet and equates to more than $30,000 per sqm.

Pezet said the sale reflected the limited opportunities to buy into the boutique beachfront development.

"The sale highlights the rarity of opportunities within the boutique beachfront development, where residences seldom become available," Pezet said.

"Flow is one of the Gold Coast's most tightly held buildings. Buyers from our database move quickly when residences become available, and achieving an off-market sale at $7.4 million demonstrates the depth of demand for property of this calibre."

Early bird Kew auction result signals strong price growth continuation

The Slater and Gordon managing director Andrew Grech has sold his Kew trophy home to the Shen family for $11.2 million.
The Grech family bought <a href="/news/slater-gordon-managing-director-andrew-grech-lists-in-kew">the Victorian era home</a> in 2008 for $4.51 million.
Kay &amp; Burton selling agent Sam Wilkinson said family reasons were the cause of the sale.
Designed by Stephens &amp; Co Architects, in collaboration with award winning interior designers Tania Di Lizio, the fully renovated three level Victorian mansion has been viewed as one of Kew's best property renovations.
The five bedroom home sits on 1800 sqm of Paul Bangay landscaped gardens. The grounds feature a solar-gas in-ground pool and poolside gymnasium.
The property has a home cinema, an upstairs library, and a pool-view alfresco entertaining pavilion.
The Australian Financial Review's Rear Window column, which followed the listing with zeal, suggested it had been expected to sell for $10 million.

Melbourne's most expensive weekend auction sale was a $4.65 million 1920's home in Kew.
The extended four bedroom bathroom family home was sold by Dave Oster and Scott Patterson of Kay &amp; Burton Hawthorn.
The 1700 sqm property comes with a tennis court. 
Located at an elevated position, <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-kew-121246918" target="_blank">4 A'Beckett Street</a> offers views of the CBD and is a short walk to Kew Junction shopping, cafes, public transport and private schools.

Kew tops Melbourne's most expensive sale

Love those Lashes beauty business owner Debra Sloane has listed her Kew home with $2.8 million plus hopes through Kay &amp; Burton.
It is an 1895 Victorian home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
There is accomodation space above the three car garage at the <a href="https://www.realestateview.com.au/Real-Estate/22-walpole-street-kew/Property-Details-buy-residential-9178602" target="_blank">Walpole Street property</a> that last traded at $1,051,000 in 2001 and renovated about a decade ago.
The entreprenuer founded the firm in 2007.
The August 7 auction is private.

Love those Lashes' Debra Sloane lists in Kew

Freiberg House, the iconic early 1960s Kew residence, has been listed for sale for the first time since its design by Chancellor and Patrick.
The property at <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-kew-116460747" target="_blank">26 Yarravale Road</a> was completed between 1958 and 1960 for Freda and Martin Freiberg set within the first entirely native garden designed by Edna Walling.
Hamish Tostevin of Marshall White, expects $2 million plus at its April 12 auction.
The Freiberg's chose the architects after finding their work to be suitably in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright for their steep 960 square metre block close to the Yarra River's Studley Park.
The three-level five bedroom home features exposed timber and brickwork, with expansive areas of glass providing a leafy outlook.
It appeared on the cover of Best Australian Houses (1961), edited by Neil Clerehan given its status as significant for its use of traditional Australian forms and materials, along with its avant-garde planning.

The Melbourne based architecture firm, formed in 1953, was headed by David Chancellor (no relation) and William Patrick and became known for notable institutional buildings as well as private residential projects.
