A Mirvac executive allegedly had tradies build a union boss's Brisbane home with the bills allocated instead to the Orion Springfield Central shopping centre project using false invoices.
The former Mirvac executive Mathew McAllum and the ex-CFMEU Queensland senior-vice president David Hanna are accused of corruptly giving and receiving a secret commission.
The work was allegedly done to complete the five-bedroom, three-bathroom Cornubia home.
Both men deny the charge in the Brisbane District Court matter.
The Brisbane Times reported the hearing on Monday heard that the $290,000 worth of building works was conducted between February and November 2013.
"The end result is that David Hanna received construction work for goods arranged by an employee of Mirvac, primarily Mr McAllum, for free," the court was told.

McAllum was a former project manager on the shopping centre development.
The paperwork described the cost of building Hanna's home as a cost variation to the original quote for Orion.

<div>The court heard a second former Mirvac executive, Queensland commercial construction boss Adam Moore, was also allegedly involved in the scheme but had since died.</div>

Overcoming his dread of the trade union influence, the Meriton apartment developer, Harry Triguboff has ditched Sydney to try his luck in the Melbourne property market.
Triguboff has bought a serviced apartment site at 140-146 King Street near Southern Cross Station, between Bourke Street and Collins Street.
He will develop a Meriton Suites apartment hotel to replace the three storey building.
The deal, worth about $29 million, will be Meriton's first development outside of NSW and Queensland, where it has completed about 70,000 apartments over the past six decades. Triguboff recently admitted the recent Sydney apartment boom had <a href="/news/harry-triguboff-says-apartment-boom-relied-too-much-on-chinese-buyers">over-relied on Chinese foreigners</a>.
The King Street, Melbourne site last sold at $10 million in 2013.
The vacant, three-storey concrete building had been expected to fetch more than $20 million, according to a report by The Age in February.
It was offloaded by Besgate Group, a little-known Sydney-based developer, backed by wealthy Chinese families, who got cold feet about Melbourne’s development market.
Besgate Group, led by the Alexandria-based Justin Gao, had burst into Melbourne’s development market in 2013 when it snapped up three city sites within six months.
Besgate's shareholders are Gao Pty Ltd; Baohua Pty Ltd directed by the Pyrmont-based Hua Gao; and Elda Group Pty Ltd, which is directed by Justin Gao, Xiao Han Sheng, Li Fan and accountant Peter Hedge. 
The site at 140 King Street could support a high-rise tower on the 781-square-metre site with an existing 2016 permit for a 57-storey building with 263 apartments.
ROTHELOWMAN's design for 140 King Street was <a href="http://www.besgate.com.au/portfolio/melbourne-king-street/" target="_blank">reminiscent of a luxury watch wrist band</a>. 
There were 11 offers on the site in the recent tender.
The listing agents <a href="http://www.meltoday.com/content-101910651106054" target="_blank">told the Chinese press</a> the flexible site was also suitable for the development of mixed-use, commercial, student residences, hotels or serviced apartments.
Triguboff's wealth was recently put at $12.3 billion in the Rich List published last weekend by The Australian.

Trade union power wasn't the only issue Triguboff has had with Melbourne.
 In a 2017 interview he said he had a problem with the weather.
"I don’t like it that it is cold. I’m too old. Old people need warmth," he said.
Meriton’s director of construction, David Cremona, said the company would seek tenders shortly, with construction due to commence later in the year.
Meriton founded its burgeoning serviced apartment business in 2003.
It currently comprises 18 hotels and 4644 self-catering suites, making it one of the country's largest owner of hotel rooms.

Harry Triguboff overcomes dread of CFMEU trade union influence and buys first Melbourne project site

First photos have emerged of last Friday's tower crane accident at <a href="/buildings/marco-42-48-balston-street-southbank">Marco Melbourne</a> on Southbank. CFMEU Victoria have uploaded a host of images via their Facebook page which demonstrates the serious nature of the accident and the luck that allowed all involved onsite to escape with only a handful of minor injuries reported.

The failure of the tower crane has lead to road closures in the area until a point where the unit can be safely recovered. Over the past few days Worksafe, the CFMEU and engineers have come to agreement concerning the removal of the tower crane.

CFMEU Victoria states online that "This work is obviously high risk and unfortunately has the potential to be delayed by changes in weather. This is a highly unusual and dangerous situation and requires everyone involved to proceed with particular care to ensure the safety of workers and the wider community."

It's been widely reported that the collapse was due to a fault with the tower crane's internal climbing system which sees the unit mounted within the tower lift well. As has been pointed out by the CFMEU, there has been much incorrect speculation about the collapse which included a precast concrete slab being dropped from the crane.

The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with the construction industry and the vigilance required when working on complicated large-scale projects. Serious tower crane incidents in recent memory include the 2005 peel back of a tower crane boom during the MCG's Northern Stand redevelopment and a 2001 accident on a Southbank construction site which saw a tower crane's moveable counterweight dislodge and fall, resulting in the death of a worker.

Post clean up, a fresh tower crane and jump form will need to be sourced in order to recommence works on the western tower of the development.

At the time of the incident the western tower floor plate was at 13 levels above ground with the lift well another four levels above. Eventually the western tower will top out at 37 levels with the adjoining eastern tower reaching 32 levels, for a combined total of 356 apartments.
