The enormity of delivering a true skyscraper in Australia's new development market is often overlooked.

It has taken the best part of a decade since plans for Chevron One were first unveiled, but the 52-storey tower is now complete, with residents collecting their keys and moving into what has become one of the Gold Coast's most recognisable new landmarks.

Rising 127 metres above Chevron Island, Chevron One stands almost twice as high as any other building on the island. Its scale places it alongside the trio of towers at Jewel, arguably the last truly significant addition to the central Gold Coast skyline when they were completed around six years ago.

"That's allowed Chevron One to deliver the sort of amenity, open space and resident facilities that very few projects can offer. There are not many completed apartment buildings on the Gold Coast right now that can compete with the combination of scale, quality and amenity."

There's around 2,000 sqm of amenity solely for the use of residents of Chevron One. Arncliffe Central will deliver a new neighbourhood in partnership with NSW Government Land and Housing Corporation and community housing provider Evolve Housing. The Arncliffe Central neighbourhood covers approximately 1.3 hectares and will be home to four residential towers, one of 21 storeys, two at 20 storeys and one of 17 storeys that will house 180 social housing apartments in partnership with Evolve Housing.

The interiors by&nbsp;architects Group GSA feature a natural colour palette inspired by the area’s abundant heritage and the local environment. The apartments are planned to maximise natural light and space, blending seamlessly with the vast outdoor spaces and embracing natural light and panoramic views.

Each apartment features high-tech security with a video intercom system enabling residents to safely manage visitors. The built-in My Home system also allows direct access to customer service.

Double glazed high thermal performance glass and vertical roll blinds and provide quiet comfort and privacy from the outside world, while bedrooms are fitted a range of thoughtful details including 100% wool textured loop piles and built-in robes with timber-look laminate shelving.

Construction is expected to commence early 2023 and due for completion in late 2025.

Urban: Which aspects of the <a href="/buildings/rhodes-central-stage-1-8-walker-street-rhodes">Rhodes Central</a> development are you most proud of and why?

Rick Graf: First and foremost, as the latest news, we have just finished an OC audit inspection for Rhodes Central. David Chandler, the NSW Building Commissioner and Urban Taskforce published an official statement praising Billbergia for its effort and setting a benchmark for the industry in developing and building Rhodes Central. We’re very proud of this achievement because we’re committed to delivering high-quality buildings. Please read the excerpt from the statement below:

Already the OC Audit program is revealing examples of both excellent and poor practice. Often the good practices are under reported. It is these projects that set the benchmarks that those who have yet to make a commitment to building trustworthy buildings must seek to aspire. Nearby: an abundance of parks and waterways, with Rhodes central offering the best water and city views in the whole peninsula. Steps from IKEA and Cinema (Reading), cycleways, gyms, many dining options.

RG: Contemporary architectural design for the dominant building in the absolute centre of the Rhodes Town Centre, connected directly into Rhodes Railway Station. The highest standards of sustainability are integrated into the tower’s powerful form as the centrepiece of the Station Gateway Precinct. The top of tower is crowned by golden bands and a heliostat to focus full sunlight into the Union Square forecourt.

Sydney's apartment of the week: Rhodes Central, Rhodes

Billbergia alongside Melbourne-based developer Golden Age Group have thrown forward separate development applications that stand to add 500 plus rooms to Sydney's hotel development pipeline.

The respective applications were both lodged earlier this month with North Sydney Council and City of Sydney and have a cumulative estimated cost just shy of $200 million. Both towers also intend to absorb and repurpose existing heritage buildings into their facade

The sustained surge in hotel developments across Sydney is seeing a flourish of hotel project proposals, although in Billbergia's case the hotel rooms share the proposed tower with commercial office space.

<h2>86-88 Walker Street, North Sydney</h2>

This will be achieved bay way of a cantilevered support structure that enables the tower to maximise its footprint.

The tower's new podium addition will compliment the Firehouse Hotel in both scale and composition. Flexible work spaces an executive lounge and gym plus reception and a restaurant account for the podium space.

Thereafter the Fitzpatrick + Partners-designed tower is a mix of 224 hotel rooms across the lower portion of the tower, chased by approximately 4,500 square metres of office space at the peak of the building. The office space is situated across levels 24 to 31.

86-88 Walker Street sits next door to what will become one of North Sydney's commercial developments; in excess of 40,000 square metres of office space is being delivered by builder Laing O’Rourke for Dexus Property Group. The new 38 level tower has progressed to see its floorplate move beyond 20 levels.

<h2>47-53 Wentworth Avenue, Sydney </h2>

Planning image: Bates Smart</figcaption></figure>A further 287 hotel rooms are on the agenda within Sydney's CBD as Golden Age Group project partner Time &amp; Place heads a planning effort to push through with an adaptive heritage development of 47-53 Wentworth Avenue. All in all the new buildings is slated to span 19 levels with Bates Smart tasked with incorporating the dated facade into the development.

Bates Smart prevailed in an Competitive Design Competition held during 2016; the managed to surpass fellow design firms SJB, Tribe Studio and Koichi Takada Architecture by way of a design which is "capable of achieving Design Excellence as required by the City’s provisions."

In addition to the 287 guest rooms, a restaurant/cafe and bar are present at lower levels, with a rooftop bar and terrace crowning the building.

Lodged this month, the Bates Smart proposal includes revisions which sees residential apartments dropped in favour of increasing the size of the hotel. Consequently all parking within the development has been removed.

Fairfax has <a href="http://www.afr.com/real-estate/golden-age-buys-michael-teplitskys-surry-hills-site-for-a-350-million-hotel-20180611-h118ha">reported</a> that Golden Age Group intend to dub the project The Treehouse, with it being a joint effort between the developer and Starwood Capital.
