James Place to make Newcastle apartment debut with KALLIO
James Place has announced its entry into the Newcastle market with the upcoming launch of KALLIO, 63 apartments near the Newcastle Interchange.
KALLIO, on the corner of of Hunter and King Streets, will appeal to owner-occupiers, downsizers and professionals, the developer, which is delivering PERLE at East Side Quarter in Penrith, says.
Founder and Managing Director Andrew James said the move into Newcastle reflects the company's long-term strategy to deliver high quality design-led projects in strong supply constrained markets.
“We are excited for our first entry into the Newcastle market," James says.
"At James Place we focus on delivering strong outcomes for communities, and our customers, and we believe this project brings something new to Newcastle. The two slender towers have been shaped carefully from the site and with only a small number of homes per level, this is an exclusive opportunity for buyers who want comfort, convenience and quality."
James Place has partnered with born and bred Novascatarian, David Rogers - whose family have owned the site since the 1950s - to bring KALLIO to life.
“My grandparents ran Rogers Diamond Emporium — the city's most eminent jewellers — for nearly four decades. When it closed, I knew this location deserved something special. A development that could help elevate the area, and offer something different to the community.”
“I submitted a DA for a multi-level building back in 2016, and it took time to find the right partner. James Place understood the potential of this site. Together we have shaped a distinctive residential address that speaks to the landscape and gives Newy locals, old and new, a place they can be proud to call home.”
Following planning and consultation with the City of Newcastle and the Urban Design Panel, KALLIO’s final design reveals two slender, sculpted towers inspired by the city’s cliffs and coastline. Apartments will enjoy views toward the harbour and Merewether, with generous layouts and abundant natural light.
Architecture and interiors are by multi‑award‑winning Bayley Ward Studio, with high‑end finishes and premium appliances throughout.
KALLIO residents will have private access to a rooftop pool, infrared sauna, landscaped communal spaces and a private dining and meeting room. A large ground‑floor commercial space will activate the streetscape and add new life to the Civic precinct.
The public launch will take place in the coming months. Two-bedroom apartments will start from $950,000 and three-bedroom apartments will start from $1.35 million. Completion is targeted for late 2027/early 2028.
