Deicorp opens Melrose Central as Melrose Park transformation hits major milestone

The transformation of Melrose Park from a former industrial precinct into one of Sydney’s fastest-growing new communities has taken another major step forward, with Deicorp officially opening Melrose Central.
The landmark mixed-use development at 33 Hope Street sits at the heart of the broader Melrose Park Urban Renewal Precinct and brings a major new retail, dining, health and entertainment offering to the growing community.
Melrose Central spans around 30,000 sqm across four levels and will ultimately accommodate close to 100 retailers and service providers.
NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully officially opened the centre on Saturday, marking one of the most significant milestones to date in Melrose Park’s evolution.
The centre is anchored by a new 4,000 sqm Coles supermarket and includes Dan Murphy’s, TerryWhite Chemmart, Myhealth Medical Centre, World Gym, iPlay and Koorong Books, alongside a growing collection of specialty retailers, cafés and restaurants.
Among the food and beverage offering is HomeTown, the Asian hawker-style dining concept that has already proved popular with locals.
Deicorp CEO Fouad Deiri OAM said Melrose Central was designed to become the new heart of the suburb.
“Melrose Central is much more than a shopping centre, it is the new heart of Melrose Park and a place where people can shop, dine, access essential services and come together as a community,” Deiri said.
“For the first time, local residents will have a major retail, dining, health and entertainment destination on their doorstep, without needing to travel to Parramatta, Top Ryde or other surrounding centres for a comparable range of services.
“This is an important milestone in the transformation of Melrose Park from its industrial past into a vibrant, connected and highly liveable urban community.”
The broader approved Melrose Central development goes well beyond the retail component.
Plans comprise the four-storey commercial and retail podium with six residential towers rising between six and 24 storeys, delivering 494 apartments.
It is that combination of new housing, retail, employment and services that has become central to the wider Melrose Park renewal story.
Deiri said Melrose Central supported more than 3,400 jobs during construction and is expected to create around 1,200 permanent jobs once fully operational.
“Melrose Central supported over 3,400 jobs during construction and will create another 1,200 permanent jobs in retail and local services,” he said.
“With a huge range of dining, convenience and services, everything locals need is now right on their doorstep.”
Deiri said the centre would also draw customers from surrounding suburbs including Ermington, Meadowbank and West Ryde, helping establish Melrose Park as a destination rather than simply a new residential precinct.
The new Coles opened ahead of the broader centre, creating more than 90 jobs and giving Melrose Park its first full-line supermarket.
“We look forward to welcoming local residents and visitors and seeing Melrose Central become an important part of everyday community life," Deiri said.
For Deicorp, Melrose Central is one of the clearest examples of its increasingly precinct-led approach to development.
Founded in 1999, the privately owned developer and builder currently has more than 4,200 apartments under construction across Greater Sydney, with a further 2,000 apartments in its planning pipeline.
