Former NSW Liberal leader John Brogden to head government property development agency Landcom
Former NSW Liberal leader John Brogden has been appointed chairman of Landcom, the NSW government's property development arm.
Brogden is chief executive of the Financial Services Council and will remain in the role.
The appointment, announced by Planning Minister Brad Hazzard, comes as the O'Farrell government is undertaking a review of the Planning Act.
Premier Barry O'Farrell served as Brogden's deputy before Brogden quit politics in 2005.
Brogden replaces William Kirkby-Jones.
The last annual report indicated the government had committed Landcom to delivering the dwellings equivalent of 10,000 new home sites during the next four years in western Sydney.
"This is an increase of around 25% on our usual production rate, but the accelerated program is already well underway through land acquisitions, advancing development applications, streamlining design and engineering contracts and mobilising the additional capital that will be needed to fund these works," Kirby-Jones indicated.
With a net profit after tax of $54.3 million, Landcom was able to return to the government $59.6 million by way of dividends and income tax equivalents in its last financial year.
