231 Smith Street exemplifies sophisticated adaptive reuse, seamlessly layering contemporary airspace architecture above the historic Edwardian facade of Panama House through a collaboration between Neometro, Grant Amon Architects, and MA Architects. The building is characterised by a sculptural, raked metal-clad envelope set back from the restored masonry parapet, which cocoons generous private outdoor terraces and provides an elevated sense of acoustic privacy. Internally, each residence channels a refined warehouse aesthetic, pairing light-filled loft proportions with meticulous architectural joinery and enduring tactile materials.
